Thanks… for nothing
There’s no excuse for not saying thank you when you receive a gift in the mail.
You don’t even have to call me! You can write me a thank you card, you can email me… you can even text me! I don’t care how you say it, just say it!
Why do I even try anymore? Geesh.

that’s one of my biggest pet peeves, too! just let me know you received the darn thing - you don’t even have to say thanks.

I was just complaining about that same thing a couple weeks ago, and when I got home that afternoon the thank you card was there! Three weeks after Christmas, but whatever.
I recently sent a birthday gift to a family members son, for his first birthday, and have yet to hear anything either. Not only is it polite to say thank you, but I would at least like to know that they received it and that the mail didn’t lose it.

I agree but I know I’m one who doesn’t always realize I have been insensitive. No excuses for whoever this is meant for but I would like everyone to know that some of us are clueless sometimes.

Oh that’s crappy. There is no excuse for that at all.
What I want to know is…what are the societal rules when someone makes a huge production that they are sending you something then you never see it? I want to ask what happened but don’t want to sound bitchy.

Ok, I’m risking life and limb (judging by the comments) but I have to admit I am SOOOO guilty of this. Actually I do email a thank you, but I know it must be in writting (especially for the kids) and everything just gets insane and then it’s months later and too late and well… crap, now I’m screwed either way. I sent out thank you cards for wedding gifts and the like, but with the kids it is SO hard to send out as many as I am supposed to (probably literally tallies around over 100 cards a year that should be sent.) *sigh* No excuses, I know I suck.

Ooh, that infuriates me too. A “Thanks, I got it” email would generally suffice. How hard is that? And I feel like such a tool asking people if they’ve gotten stuff I sent when ages have passed and all they say is, “oh yeah, I got that a couple weeks ago.”
Now mostly I don’t bother for those folks, or I pay extra for the delivery confirmation.

I agree. No excuse at all for that. (Although, I must admit, I’m really bad with thank you cards. But I do call and say thanks right way…)
There are times when friends really do disappoint. I’m struggling with what to do with one who seems hell bent on disappointing me over and over. Perhaps I need to take a hint…

Gina (Mannyed) - Do people think that if you tell them something is coming, they don’t have to tell you when it arrived, or tell you thanks?!
diane - I concur. I am super impressed when I met a child (or adult!) with manners anymore.
Jenniy - maybe I should complain a bit more and see if the thank you comes?
sizzle - exactly - no more gifts for them. Seriously. Now that I have a job I thought I would be nice and SEND A GIFT for once. NOT. AGAIN.
CourtneyInControl - yeah, even if you don’t like it, you could send an email “I got your gift….” heh heh heh.
ajooja - but you learn from it, right? Should I speak up so that they know I am upset?
Hilly - It becomes so awkward… you call, “uh, hey. Just wanted to know if you got that gift I sent… a month ago?” “Oh you, did?” “Okay, THANKS. Bye.” Ha ha, then YOU are saying thanks!
Kyra - at least you acknowledge that it is something you are not so good at. I think this person doesn’t even care. And it doesn’t have to be a real card! AT least not for me! I bet a lot of people would agree with that!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for addressing this issue. It is definitely one of my biggest pet peeves. I was just telling my mom the other day that it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to say thanks for something - card, email, phone call, text message, whatever. The last 2 weddings gifts & the last 3 baby gifts I’ve given never were acknowledged, so apparently people just don’t care anymore. It’s terribly rude NOT to acknowledge a gift & for me - - -there is no excuse!

Jennifer H.- IF they are not saying thank you for a wedding gift, then they are pissing a lot of people off! People get tons of gifts; I can’t imagine not taking the time to WRITE the thank yous! Even if it takes a few months, geesh!
