Entrepreneurial

Steven had the right idea.

About a month ago, Steven took me to the train station to pick up my car, which was completely covered in snow. “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a service that cleared snow off your car for you while you were riding the train home?” he asked.

“Uh huh.” (I’m really supportive.)

“You could sign up for a service, and they would clear off your car whenever it snowed! You could let them know which train you were taking home and your car would be ready to go when you got off the train. They could charge you a couple of dollars each time.”

“Steven, you’re going to have to charge them more than that if you want to make any money.” (Filled with encouragement and optimism, yes?)

Yesterday, I would have paid someone $10 or more to dig my car out of the snow to drive home.

So. Sick. Of. ALL. THIS. GD. SNOW!!!

This morning our neighbor had to come help us. We only have a tractor with a plow blade, he had a snowblower one on his. It still took 2 hours to dig out our 200 ft driveway. *sigh*

  2. I think Steven needs to pull out his shovel and get this plan started! Start digging, Steven! Of course, you’ll have to dig Kim’s car out, free of charge.

  3. OMG!!! that is nuts!!!! your poor car!!! he must be freezing!!!! a service like that would probably be very lucrative right now!!
i agree with Gina!! start digging Steven!!! :o)

woah! and i get irritable when i have to scrape ice off my windows! now THIS is a reality check. as much as i love snow it is really the idea of snow i love and not the actual mountains of snow. that’s a lot of snow on your car!

  5. diane says:

My dad would totally go to work for Steven. He loves any excuse to get the snowblower out!
So sorry for you though. 🙁 Did you in fact have to dig it out??

I’m always trying to lobby for a car service to take me from my building to my car at night during the winter. Walking those 2 blocks into the north wind at night stinks! I don’t mind cleaning the snow off the car most days, just warm it up while I clean off the snow.

  7. ajooja says:

Yuck. Our snow only lasted a couple of days. I could have worn shorts over the weekend.

Of course, that’s probably why everyone I know is sick.

I am so over the snow! I am totally sore after shoveling our entire HUGE driveway yesterday. Yuck! I would probably have paid someone $100 to shovel/snowblow/whatever for me yesterday. I need to buy a snowblower!

  9. Robin says:

    Soooooo sick of the snow.

Who’s ready for Spring? I know I am!

I’m with you 100% I am SICK TO BITS AND PIECES of snow!!! Gah!

My car barely wanted to get out of the parking space at the Metra station yesterday. Nearly everyone else had already left, and it was me by myself rocking and spinning my tires. I eventually turned off my car, stomped to the front of the lot and found some guy to help me out. I was so grateful that if I’d had more cash than what would be needed to pay for parking the next day, I would’ve gladly given it to him although he didn’t ask for anything.

The snow removal service is a great idea actually. Teens who get the day off because school is closed for weather should do something like this. When I lived in the city, sometimes the neighborhood teens would come around and offer to shovel your snow for a few bucks. Beats having them lie around the house eating their way through the pantry and fridge.

Kyra – And I thought we had it bad! Yikes! Thank heavens for the association that has someone out plowing my driveway at 4 am…

Gina (Mannyed) – Steven doesn’t even have a shovel. He is off to a bad start!

CourtneyInControl – I think Steven meant he wanted to have someone else shovel… not him… ha ha ha!

sizzle – The ice is the worst because it is so hard to get off! I try to defrost for a bit if I can… but I am usually it such a hurry! I feel like I am hitting my windshield with a chisel!

diane – too bad your dad lives so far away… unless you are looking for an excuse to have him move out here? 😉 I had to use my boots to kick all the snow out from around my car. Thank heavens for boots! (Thanks mom!)

Odie – do you park near Mole Bio? I used to have a pass there… and it was so cold sometimes I just took the bus instead! It went closer to my house and the armory! HA HA!

ajooja – everyone you know is sick beacause you wore shorts? ha ha just kidding!

tori – I read an article in the Sun Times about the value of a snow blower and was thinking “yeah… riiiiiiiiiiiiight.” After 14 inches, I get the point!

Robin – That’s what I have been saying this past week! SPRING PLEASE!!!

lcmotorist – Did everyone get off work early yesterday except for us? I took the 5:25 train out of the city and when I got to the parking lot it was mostly empty too! I was worried the same thing was going to happen to me that happened to you… I am happy you got out! Maybe we should start this business in Lake County? 😉
