Friday Question #29
Did you ever wear one of those livestrong, or livestrong-inspired rubber wristbands? What did it say? Do you still wear it?
I never had a livestrong wristband, but I do have four other “copycats.”
- “Sortez de l’ordinaire” - a purple band I bought in Montreal… and have forgotten what it means. A little help?
- “Breast Cancer Awareness” - a pink band I bought at Wal-Mart! I hope they gave something to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for selling them.
- “Animal Rights” - a blue band… can you guess where I bought THAT one?
- “Donate Life/Done Vida” - a green band my aunt gave me after her husband passed away and was an organ donor.
I still wear the green one from time to time, but that’s it.

I had a huge collection of them at one point that I’d picked up here and there. Now I own two and wear one. I have a “BELIEVE” with a Cubs logo and I wear an actual LiveStrong bracelet. Katie has a breast cancer awareness one on the rearview mirror in her car. And I’d like to get one of the Support Rabies ones from The Office… you have to know the show to understand.

Doesn’t that mean “escape the ordinary” or something like that? I always thought “sortez” was “exit” - you see it on airplanes I think?

i’ve only had one, it was an orange ASPCA one.

I do not know what Sortez de l’ordinaire means? It’s a mystery as I tried to google it but “escape the ordinary” sounds like a good phrase- heh-heh
I don’t wear the bands but my kids have a bunch of them…
Have a great weekend Lisa!

I have a breast cancer awareness bracelet from my 5K but I haven’t worn it yet. I’ve been teased repeatedly that I need to buy the black “Corporate Whore” bracelet they sell at one of the boutique shops in my neighborhood.

I was going to say “throw out the ordinary” but I think Dave2 is closer to the mark. Sortez means go out/leave; it’s the you plural form of the verb sortir, so it’s like a formal command/exhortation.

I own two of them–an AIDS one and a customized purple one that my sister had made for her wedding. I’ve never worn either of them. They just aren’t my style.

My daughter wears some of those. I have had one I got at the Treo Film Festival last year. It sits on my bookshelf at home in my office. I don’t remember wearing it.
Plus the rubber pinches the hair on my arms too much. I’m a wimp like that.

I have a thyroid cancer one and I gave one to each of my friends right after my cancer. I rarely wear mine but when I think of it I put it on. My daughter actually collects those bracelets and has quite the collection!

I have multiple different ones. I wear my DONATE LIFE one on a daily basis. It never leaves my arm. I also have a dance studio one i wear from time to time, and an Osceola Chieftain one i wear on special events.

I liked this so much I did a post on it
Thanks.

i have the livestrong. but my dad used to wear one for literally every cause! his arm was so colorful with all his bands!
June 14, 2008 @ 10:55 pm
I would wear one of those if I could ever found one that fit! I feel like they’re either made for a teenie 12-year-old or a grown, hairy man.
June 15, 2008 @ 6:09 pm
Sortez de l’ordinaire - literal translation means exit the ordinary, but escape the ordinary would be a better translation.
I don’t have any of the those bracelets. It never really fit with my fashion sense…

Susan has been looking all over for the Animal Rights Blue (Or it’s also purple) wrist band. We can’t find them here. We both have orange one for MS a white one for the ONE campaine, and pink for brest cancer, and a support our troops one too.
June 15, 2008 @ 6:41 pm
But no, neither one of us wear any of them. The one I see the most I think is the acutal LiveStrong one…..
June 16, 2008 @ 9:14 am
I have several but I don’t really wear them (and usually lose them). I think they are great though for promoting and banding together (so to speak)!!!
June 16, 2008 @ 1:20 pm
I have the livestrong bracelet…I wear it from time to time, but mostly one of my stuffed animals has the honor of wearing it, hehe.
June 17, 2008 @ 1:17 pm
No, I never EVER wore one. They got WAY too cliche way too fast. People started wearing them just to be cool, not to advocate any certain message. I didn’t want to take part in that just to “look cool.”

I have Ewing’s sarcoma….so when I was diagnosed I had yellow bands made that said “CIN WILL CONQUER”…I had over 250 made for friends and family to wear…I am amazed how many of them wear them while I am going through treatment. I am still trying to figure out what to do with them once I am done. I also have a Livestrong band.
