Data's World 5: Kitty Cat Alarm Clock

(See previous versions of Data’s World on the “Photos” page – 1, 2, 3 and 4.)

Data’s been a little sh!tbox since we arrive home from Colorado on Monday.

We walked in the door and he didn’t even say hello. Now, I know this is typical for many cats, but not for Data. He is always purry and happy to see us when we get home (i.e. he wants to be fed).

Since then, he’s been running around like he OWNS the house. Like we just happen to be people who stay here from time to time.

Every night, he waits until I am walking away from him, then he runs up behind me and jumps on my bare legs to bite me.

On Friday night, I was laying in the bed taking photos of Steven’s awesome bruises (that’s just how weird I am), when Data jumped up onto the bed, bit my arm, then grabbed the camera cord with his teeth and ran away with it. I had to laugh, but also wondered what his deal was. And of course, this was after he got in trouble for getting into Steven’s closet and knocking everything down off of his shelves.

And as always, he always wants me to be awake. Besides waking me up early in the morning, he tries to wake me up even if I am taking a nap. Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to have the free time to take a nap, but couldn’t enjoy it, because someone (not Steven) was purring and meowing in my ear the whole time.

Conclusion: My neighbors are too nice. They visited Data at least 5 times while we were gone for 4 days. THEY are the ones spoiling him. (Ha ha).

No, really. We always miss Data when we travel and look forward to how sweet he is when we come home (sweet because he misses us so much). But now that people are coming over to take care of him, it’s not such a big deal for him anymore. I am happy our neighbors are generous enough to come over and fed him, play with him, leave us notes about how he was doing.. and leave us cookies too! I just need to understand that he won’t be as sweet when we get home, because he wasn’t as lonely.

And yeah, and probably wouldn’t kill me to play with him a bit more each night so he isn’t runing up after me and attackingย  me, in his attempt to play.

We have the same gray alarm clock at our house. My wife’s cat Rocko does the same thing. Well, first he howls outside to be let in. Then he climbs up and wants snuggles, but not before he makes sure there is food in his belly.

We will miss this alarm clock when we will be gone to Hawaii in less than two weeks.

I have three kitties…one sits at my side of the bed and stares at me, kitty #2 crawls all over me and kitty #3 brings her toys to our room and meows at them consistently until I throw something at her or get my ass out of bed! Little monsters they are! And then after they’re fed, they could care less about us for the rest of the day…until it’s time to eat again that is!

My cat Dash is the same way in the morning with the incessant purring in my face. Sometimes he licks my face too and then plops his hairy self right by my head until I get up to feed him. Dot is different. She just wants me to lift the covers so she can purr and snuggle next to me in the wee hours of the morning. Neither has ever jumped on me or bitten me and for that I am grateful (sounds painful!).

martymankins – The gray version is the best, isn’t it? Ha. I wish they would want those snuggles when they weren’t hungry as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ So, no alarm in Hawaii?

Amy – Ha! It is a group effort! I guess we are lucky we only have one? ๐Ÿ˜‰

sizzle – Aww. One to keep the head warm, one to warm the rest of you. What sweeties! The biting is not so bad, it’s just the shock that he is doing it… ugh. I think he is going through his teenage years and needs to be disciplined ๐Ÿ˜‰

LoL! Data certainly is spoiled!! We can’t trust the cat alone – she sometimes shows her ire by pee-ing by the front door – a NICE surprise to walk in on, yes? :p In exasperation, we started locking her up in the bathroom when we were going to be gone overnight or longer. … Just recently Kosh decided to take a chance and let her have full range of the house while he was gone for two days. He reported no surprises discovered (so far), and a more-than-usually clingy cat. Tell Data he is very lucky! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. kilax says:

*lynne* – Where is she now while you are traveling?! Not in the bathroom! Or are you on your own? It’s funny how cats act when their “owners” leave. They’re always up to something ๐Ÿ˜‰

OOO Data is bilingual! Sweet! Yup, Data is spoiled by the neighbors –he’s probably trying to urge you to go on vacation again! He’s such a sweet boy! : )

  8. i love Data’s World!!! He is so adorable and snuggly!!!! sorry, i had to giggle when i read about him waiting til you walk away then jumping up and biting you on the legs!! mazzy bites the feet and ankles… in his defense, if you didn’t feel that you just had to sleep and you could stay up and play with him then there might not be a problem, lol… that’s awesome that your neighbors spoil Data!! he’s such a lucky kitteh!!!
    =^..^=

Gina (Mannyed) – Ha ha ha. I am happy someone picked up on the spanish. Hee hee. And I think he DOES want us on vacation. When our neighbors come over, he acts like a little attention whore around them.

CourtneyInControl – Ha ha. I am happy my cat is not the only one doing that! Hmm, I didn’t think about NOT sleeping! Maybe I should try that. Whatever makes Data happy ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. martymankins says:

Nope, no alarms in Hawaii… at least of the gray variety. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Christina says:

Ahh the joys of cats. Mine likes to meow (except he has a weird meow) when I first wake up for me to feed him…like he has been STARVING since 11 pm. That and he alsways likes to cuddle near my face in the middle of the night after he has used the loo!

It is a good thing that he is cute…just kidding, he is my baby.

  12. beth says:

We keep our doors closed so the cats stay out of our room – if they ever get in then they want to be EXACTLY next to my head. Both of them.

My GREY variety is always pissed when we go away. We get the silent treatment for DAYS!!

  13. kilax says:

martymankins – I am so jealous! Maybe my alarm clock will turn off in your honor while you are gone ๐Ÿ˜‰

Christna – I know THAT meow – the deep, funny, low moan? The “I feel like I am dying, feed me now” meow? Hee hee hee. We sure do spoil our babies, don’t we?

Beth – The good ‘ol silent treatment. They are trying to show us they’re upset and don’t need us… but it really shows how much they miss us! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  14. *lynne* says:

Kim: oh I’m traveling alone, so the cat has her male slave to bully around… it’s just that last weekend Kosh left her alone while visiting the folks, and he didn’t lock her in the bathroom… he still reports no surprises found, so I suppose that’s good ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. kilax says:

*lynne* – Oh! Thanks for explaining. I like how Kosh is her “Male slave.” So true ๐Ÿ˜‰
