New addition to the family, part ii

Seems like Steven and I are developing an April trend here… buying a new* Infiniti.

Infiniti FX35

You may recall that I’ve been debating the pros and cons (half seriously) of buying a new car for some time now. I really wasn’t planning on buying one this month, but the Kimbot** started having some starter problems. It would start after awhile, but I made an appointment to have it checked out and told Steven, seriously, that if it cost more than $500 to fix the car, I was just going to buy a new one.

Well, every Tuesday, I have to get up extra early to make it to a reoccurring appointment at my office, so Steven and I don’t carpool. Last Tuesday, I was all ready to go, I got in the car, turned the key in the ignition… and nothing. I tried to be patient. I gave it time, and kept trying. The clock was ticking, and it was about 7 minutes until my train was going to leave, and my car wouldn’t start. I got so frustrated, and just laid my head on the steering wheel and closed my eyes and started to cry a bit (I know, so lame). Then I saw the garage light come on. Steven was sleeping, and heard me trying to start the car, so he got out of bed, put some clothes on, and tried to help me. No luck. But he did drive me to the station. What a sweetie. He made my day that morning.

And that was when I decided I didn’t care so much about the $500 anymore. I didn’t want to put up with it. I loved the Kimbot when I lived at home, within a 100 mile radius of my mechanic father. But now? Sorry, I am too impatient to deal with it.

I decided it was time to buy my first “real” car. I decided I deserve it. That doesn’t mean I need it, I know that.

So Steven did all the research for me, because he loves to, and I don’t, and he was excited about getting another new car. This isn’t actually the model or make I was going to buy, but I won’t go into THAT story. It all comes down to salesmen playing games, and us deciding not to give in.

We only stopped at Infiniti because Steven wanted to talk to the service department. But I asked if we could go in to look at the SUVs. I’ve always loved these models, but didn’t think I could afford one. Guess I can. Mostly.

I love that it sounds just as beautiful as Steven’s Infiniti, and drives just as smoothly. It has more space and all wheel drive, but still looks curvy and aggressive – which is something I like. And we’ve had great experience with Infiniti so far, which makes me feel very comfortable.

So yay. I pick it up on Tuesday.

Steven has that “what did I get myself into?” look on his face!

We had some good times Olds, but now the FX35 is the new Kimbot!

P.S. The Olds was going to cost $1200 to fix (they found a few other problems).

*That would be new to me. I am too poor to afford this car brand new (and I HATE what they did to the ’09 model).
**Kimbot is the name of my car. I even have the vanity plates. Yep. Dork.

That is a serious serious car — sweet.

I was toying with getting plates that read Boy-mobile (his nickname not Boy). Kimbot… I like it.

  2. amanda says:

That’s a really sweet car. Congratulations!!

  3. kilax says:

Nat – You should get custom plates! I wonder if it is easier or more difficult in Canada. It took me awhile to get them here. I had them in Iowa as well πŸ™‚

    amanda – Thank you πŸ˜€

  4. sizzle says:

    Yay! That’s awesome.

Also, you are thinner every time I see a picture of you! Holy Crap!

  5. kilax says:

sizzle – Thank you! And thank you for noticing. I noticed that my face looks a little slimmer in this photo, which is something I was worried about. Again, thank you for noticing. That makes me feel good πŸ™‚

  6. Christina says:

Skinny-mini Kim! You are lookin’ Hot HOt HOT! πŸ™‚ I love the car! Miss you both!

  7. Stacey says:

    Congrats on the hot car!

  8. Jenn says:

Congrats on the new car! Something funny happened when we bought my new car, that I didn’t mention on my blog – Scott and I were interviewed by one of the local news channels about a story on how recently some new cars are cheaper to buy than used ones because of dealer incentives and interest rates.

  9. kilax says:

Christina – Thanks sister! I think the car is perfect for driving you, me, Kyle and Steven to WI to skydive? πŸ™‚ Hey, do you miss me and Steven or me and the car? LOL! πŸ˜›

Stacey – Thank you πŸ™‚ I told Data he would get to go to the vet in a nicer car now, and he didn’t seem very excited. πŸ˜‰

Jenn – That is so cool! Did you see if they showed it on the news? We expected the salesmen to be more lenient with the prices, because of the economy, but they were being stubborn.

  10. kapgar says:

I am wearing a black armband in honor of the one and only Kimbot. *sniffle*

  11. Denise says:

Love the new Kimbot!!! Sweet! We have vanity plates on all 4 cars. Just our initials on 3 of them, mine says DKF001. The Vette is OUTASYT. I came up with that. Congratulations on your new to you car! What color is it? And are you going to post pictures of the inside also. It will be the closest I’ll ever get to seeing the inside of an Infiniti.

You look amazing!!! Like a model!!! Oh yes, I’m serious.

Does dad know that he’s getting the Olds back?

Have fun driving your new vehicle!!!! Maybe I’ll get to see it in person someday. πŸ™‚

  12. Congratulations! It is so exciting to get a new car.

  13. Lindsay says:

Hi! I figured that I answer your question about the Garmin & calories here since I didn’t know if you subscribed to the comments over on my blog.

The Garmin 405 does count calories but only if you’re using GPS. So if you’re running outside, it will count calories but if you’re on the treadmill, you’re out of luck, unless you have the foot pod (which basically works like a Nike+ but better so I’ve heard). Even with a heart rate monitor it still doesn’t. I thought it would be like the Polar watches & heart rate monitors that uses the heart rate to calculate calories.

  14. Christina says:

Haha looks perfect for skydive adventures! I miss you and Steven Skaffilax. You should hear my phone say “Kim Skaffilax” whenever you text/call me. Its funny. πŸ™‚ Did you guys ever get new phones?

  15. mom says:

Kim don’t worry about Kimbot # 2 ( the Olds) your Dad will fix her with tender loving care, and Christina will let you visit her any time you want.

  16. Bethany says:

Yay, that’s so exciting!!! I love the look of it πŸ™‚ What year is it? I name my cars too- I had Tabitha first and now Matson πŸ˜€

  17. kilax says:

kapgar – LOL. Are you going to send me one?

Denise – I love your vanity plate names! Is it “outta sight”? πŸ˜€ The FX is “sapphire blue.” I should post some inside pics, once I pick it up! Or should I just drive it straight to your house? πŸ˜€ Thank you about your model comment πŸ™‚ I called Dad that morning to let him know I was abandoning the Kimbot, before I even bought a car. He told me it would only cost him $150 in parts to do all the fixes!

radioactive tori – Thanks! I am pretty excited. I think I will be more excited after I pick it up.

Linday – Oh, that makes sense! I think Steven uses the heart rate monitor on the treadmill to count calories, so it’s all good then πŸ™‚

Christina – Ha ha! I bet that sounds really funny electronically… because it sounds funny when a human says it! Steven decided we WEREN’T getting new phones until our contracts expired. I think his is up in May or June, so he may then. He really likes your phone.

mom – LOL! You sure Dad is going to be tender with her? Ha ha ha. I know Christina will be.

Scale Warfar – Thank you πŸ™‚

Bethany – Thanks! It is a 2005. They changed the design in 2009 (or maybe 2008?) so I liked the way the older model looks better. I like your names! Matson is cute.

  18. diane says:

My first car went quickly from being called The Red Barron (it was a Red Ford Probe) to Christine and Deathtrap. Thank god that car died shortly after it was passed on…it was cursed!
Congrats on the new addition!! Very pretty. πŸ™‚

  19. Yay, for cars starting every. day.

I want a newer car, but I have a 19 year old queen of the smash up derby and a 17 year old BOY on my insurance. BOO to that.

I like that you give your car a name…however, I am wondering…each car has the same name? How do you know that?

All my cars have names, but different ones. πŸ™‚

  20. kilax says:

diane – Deathtrap! LOL! You’ll have to tell me more about that. Was it a family car or something? Thanks πŸ™‚

Hotch Potchery – Ha ha. I think I know a 19-year old with a few smash up issues too (my younger sis, who is getting the car). I really wanted my first car to be a Mini, then it was going to be “Kimini,” but since I didn’t get that, I am going to transfer the “Kimbot” plates for now. I could do “KIMFX35” or something like that… I get what you’re saying though πŸ˜‰

  21. Tony says:

Congrats on the new ride. Very Nice!

  22. Mrs. Smith says:

    LOVE this car! Well done!

  23. awww… poor “old” kimbot!!! but you do deserve a new car!!!! i love the “new” kimbot!!!! she loos good!!!! and don’t you just love it when they find other/extra problems!!!!
    =^..^=

  24. kilax says:

    Tony – Thank you!

Mrs. Smith – Thanks! I love it too… and I don’t even have it yet!

CourtneyInControl – Ha ha. Goodbye “old” Kimbot. You are an OLD Olds. Hee hee. I thought they would find more problems with it, since it has turned into such a shitbox lately. I bet my dad can fix it right away, but he doesn’t live out here πŸ˜‰

  25. martymankins says:

Wow, that’s a kick ass new car. Another round of congrats (I just wished you congrats on your 30 miles).

Steven looks like Chris Robinson from The Black Crows in that photo next to the car.

  26. kilax says:

martymankins – Hee hee, thanks. I laughed out loud (for real) when you said Steven looks like Chris Robinson. HA HA HA! He immediately went to look up who that was (can you believe he didn’t know?! Okay, okay, I only knew because he was married to Kate Hudson!).

  27. JavaQueen says:

Congrats!!! Your guy is so sweet on you! It’s nice to read about a guy who knows how to treat his woman! Steven, you rock! Do we have a new name for the new ride yet? I cannot believe you had Kimbot vanity plates too- that’s very cool!

  28. kilax says:

JavaQueen – I thought he was being a TOTAL sweetie too! My sis thinks I should call the car “Baby SUV.” I guess it will be Kimbot for awhile until I come up with something better!

  29. Ren says:

I’ve gone back and forth between getting a G35 or an FX35 as my next car (my wife got an M35 a couple of years ago that we both love). Leaning toward the FX35 at present, but I have no intention of purchasing any time soon.

By the way, I found my way here from kapgar sharing another post of yours on Google Reader…

  30. kilax says:

Ren – Thanks for stopping by! Infiniti makes great cars, don’t they? We have had great luck with the G35. And I love that the FX sounds JUST LIKE IT! I love the way Infiniti’s sound. And it just as sporty of a ride as the G. I guess when you do decide, it will be a matter of size! πŸ™‚

  31. I totally missed this post! We are twins Kim, I’m convinced. Steve and I want this car next! Let me know how you are enjoying it. We miss our infiniti since the lease ended. No use in having another car (besides are CRV) in Queens.

  32. kilax says:

Gina (Mannyed) – I wondered if you knew about the new car! I was talking about it to Steven yesterday. Ha ha! That’s funny. I didn’t know you didn’t have your Infiniti anymore! We really like the FX so far. I am not too crazy about the new version of it though. The front looks too weird and wavy! What do you think?
