Friday Question #70

By , June 12, 2009 5:21 am

Are you a breakfast eater? If yes, what is your typical breakfast?

What a weird question, right? It came to mind because I was with my sister last week and she told me that she doesn’t eat breakfast, because it makes her feel sick.

I am the exact opposite. I HAVE to eat breakfast, everyday. Even if I ate my weight in food the night before, I will still be hungry in the morning.

My typical breakfast is Quaker Old Fashioned Oats and 2 teaspoons of brown sugar. I have been eating that almost everyday for a few months and haven’t gotten sick of it yet. I love oatmeal!

2 Toaster waffles and a 12oz can of tomato juice. Sometimes your mother will make oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins. I think the oatmeal is supposed to be good for my cholesterol, don’t know about the brown sugar and raisins. But yes, gotta have my breakfast.

  2. Mica says:

I used to skip breakfast because it made me kind of nauseous, but now that I have a more regular sleep schedule, I would be ravenous if I didn’t eat something. That said, I usually wait an hour before I eat anything in the morning.

  3. tori says:

I used to not eat breakfast, but then switched to being a breakfast eater. I usually have some oatmeal with peanut butter. Either that or if I am in a hurry, I grab a fiber one bar and bring it with me.

  4. um, i’m kinda a so-so breakfast eater… sometimes i eat, sometimes i don’t… i know, i need to be consistent one way or the other… dc usually makes egg sandwiches in the morning for breakfast… if he’s not up i don’t ever have time to make anything, mornings are rough!!!
    =^..^=

p.s… i l-o-v-e the new picture at the top!!! it is too freaking cute!!!!

  5. suze says:

I love oatmeal for breakfast – I usually try to make the full-flake non-instant, good for me stuff, but some mornings are more rushed than others so I have instant as a fall back. And always with two teaspoons Maple Syrup, a handful of raisins and some flax seeds.

  6. Holly says:

I absolutely have to have breakfast every day – I would kill someone if I didn’t! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve always been a breakfast eater, but it used to be cereal/milk and that never filled me up. So now I stick to oatmeal with banana and PB. The PB really keeps me full – plus I’ll use any excuse I can to eat the stuff.

  7. SoMi's Nilsa says:

Not eating breakfast totally messes with your metabolism. If you’re going to eat one meal per day, it should be breakfast. That said, I always eat breakfast. Before Jenny, I would eat oatmeal daily. Now, I eat oatmeal, eggs, cereal … I change it up and I like it that way!

  8. Alice says:

i’m very inconsistent w/my bfast eating… i never eat at my house on weekdays, but occasionally i’ll eat something small at work once i get there. i do always have a fake mocha (packet of hot chocolate mix in coffee!) or tea in the morning, which usually tides me over until about 11:30 when all of a sudden all i can think about is how much i need lunch ๐Ÿ˜‰

if i’m working from home or it’s a weekend, though, i do usually have some cereal or whatever i can forage in my fridge. so.. yeah. not consistent ๐Ÿ˜›

  9. Jess says:

OK, now that I’ve had surgery my breakfast routine has had to change. Before I had Cheerios with skim milk and sometimes a piece of lox. Now I have scrambled egg whites or cottage cheese.

  10. Jo says:

I eat 28 grams of Kellogg’s Bran Flakes, 28 grams of Fiber One and 1 cup of 1% milk every day. I am off if I don’t get my favorite breakfast, my big dose of fiber.

If I had to eat a high-protein breakfast with eggs or egg whites, I would get an upset stomach. I cannot tolerate too rich of a breakfast.

    I’m weird, I know.

  11. Jenn says:

I have to eat it, I absolutely don’t understand the people that say breakfast makes them nauseous… i usually feel sick if I DON’T eat it. I usually eat Cheerios with a banana (the whole grain ones, not the overly sweet honey ones), but sometimes toast and I always keep those Quaker oatmeal to go bars around in case I have to eat while I’m driving to work.

  12. Emma says:

Breakfast is a MUST for me. I am starving by lunch if I don’t. I usually eat a 100-calorie English muffin with a TBSP. of peanut butter or egg beaters and salsa in a low-carb, low-calorie tortilla. I love me some breakfast!

  13. Erin says:

I eat breakfast every day. Like you, it doesn’t matter how much I ate the night before. I HAVE to eat in the morning. My normal breakfast is a whole wheat English muffin with crunchy peanut butter and dried cranberries eaten sandwich-style. When I’m out of English muffins, I’ll eat a bowl of Trader Joe’s frosted mini-wheats. I like things that are quick to prepare and don’t require cooking (toasting an English muffin does not count as cooking).

  14. Jamie says:

If I wake up late it’s a mojo bar. Otherwise either an english muffin, w/ pb and a banana or oatmeal with brown sugar and fruit. I have to eat something!

  15. Jamie says:

  16. diane says:

I can’t eat breakfast right when I wake up…it makes me queasy. So I usually have to wait until I’m up and around and at least on my way to work.
But I never skip it. I can’t skip meals, I’ll pass out.
Usually I have the Weight Control Quaker Oatmeal with some protein powder sprinked in and raisins. When I grow weary of oatmeal, I switch it up to turkey bacon on whole wheat english muffin w/ lowfat cheese.
Of course, on the weekends I’ll splurge with buckwheat pancakes and full-fat bacon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. sizzle says:

I have to have breakfast! Usually it’s eggs and turkey bacon.

  18. I’m totally a breakfast eater! Can’t survive without it.

Bacon, Eggs, Cantaloupe and a big glass of OJ (preferably no pulp). About 99% of the time. I love waffles too, but they’re a hassle to make compare to my regular (if I have waffles, I drink milk too, OJ and syrup doesn’t mix).

It used to be Turkey bacon, but since I’ve found microwavable bacon, it’s been regular bacon. Ekrich and Oscar Meyer are the two best, IMHO. You’ve got to buy the microwave bacon on sale, $2.00-$2.50 a box, sometimes the same stores sell it for $3.79!

  19. nancypants says:

I always eat breakfast. Right now my breakfasts always are 1 cup of Stonyfield Farm plain lowfat yogurt sweetened with a TBSP of honey, 1 cup of blueberries, strawberries, or blackberries, and 1/4 cup Nature’s Path flax and pumpkinseed granola. I’ve been eating this for the last few months.

In winter I tend to eat more oatmeal…..1/2 cup old-fashioned oats, 1 TBSP brown sugar, 1 TBSP walnuts, and 1 TBSP dried cranberries.

Another oatmeal recipe I like to eat (especially in fall) is 1/2 c. oatmeal, 1/4 c. lowfat vanilla yogurt, 1/2 diced apple, 1 TBSP raisins, and 1 TBSP walnuts.

There are lots of good oatmeal recipes and ideas I want to try but never get around to on several different food blogs out there.

YESSS its what gets me out of bed ๐Ÿ™‚ haha. I LOVE breakfast and I LOVE cereal. I could eat it every meal ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Nat says:

I do. I stopped for a while but it does make the day a lot better. In my new gig, I can get sucked into VERY long meetings where I don’t emerge until well after lunch. So if I don’t eat before work who knows when I’ll eat again.

I do smoothies, breakfast burritos if I’m feeling creative or toast (whole grain) with peanut butter. Pre-run I do cereal with berries.

  22. Denise says:

I have to eat breakfast! If I’m working I eat Blue Bunny yogurt of some flavor with 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed mixed in. Then maybe a banana. If I’m at home I may have 1 egg cooked in the microwave on toast with a slice of fat free cheese. When I was in high school, breakfast (usually eggs) always made me sick to my stomach. I’m not a big egg eater. So my mom started fixing me grilled cheese for breakfast and that kept the “hungries” away til lunch. But I’ve been known to eat left over COLD pizza for breakfast too. Probably why I fight my weight problem. Can Christina eat anything for breakfast or does eating anything make her sick?

  23. Sophia says:

I used to skip breakfast, but now I adore it. I get sad if I wake up too late to have breakfast. My brekkie is usually a bowl of oats cooked in almond milk, Greek yogurt, and fruits.

  24. Susan says:

I never used to eat breakfast…at least no more than half a bowl of cereal. I used to be on a big peanut butter toast + banana kick when I would run right after waking up. However, before work I now eat yogurt + banana + granola. So good!

  25. *lynne* says:

I don’t necessarily eat breakfast, but I love American breakfast food! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, sans the hog meat. There’s something about coffee, runny yolky eggs and cheese, toast, turkey sausage that does it for me ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Ashley says:

I just finished a bowl of instant oatmeal a few minutes ago. ๐Ÿ™‚ I like oatmeal, toast w/peanut butter, or a whole wheat English muffin with peanutbutter or Nutella. Yummm!!!

  27. Breakfast every day for me too! Oatbran, chocolate chips and brown sugar. I actually just ran out of the oat bran and they were out of it at the first place I looked this weekend. I need to find it to keep my addiction going!

It depends, I’m very partial to old fashioned oatmeal and brown sugar (cinnamon too!) like yourself. My other breakfast standard is 2-3 eggs soft scrambled with toast and orange juice. There has to be orange juice, otherwise I won’t make the eggs and toast. Is that weird?

  30. martymankins says:

My day is never complete without breakfast. For me (and my wife), it’s oatmeal 6 days a week. Some mornings we add fresh fruit to the oatmeal. Then one day a week, we do eggs, omelets, bacon, biscuits and gravy… go all out. Like a splurge for eating so good the rest of the week.

Juice, coffee and water are a must, too.

  31. Bethany says:

Nope, I don’t usually eat breakfast. I have to leave by 7 to go to work, so usually I eat a snack around 10ish. Occasionally I’ll grab a pop tart when the kids are eating breakfast ๐Ÿ™‚
