Training Week 10

Day 64 | December 21, 2009: strength + cross

I visited the office gym for an early morning strength and cardio workout. I was surprised by the amount of people there at 6:30 – about 6 or 8. Normally, it is me and maybe one or two other people. Monday’s surge (ha) made me kind of worry about how crowded the gym would be after the New Year and everyone’s resolutions. Do you worry about the gym being overcrowded?

Day 66 | December 23, 2009: strength

I felt somewhat worn out so I did an easier strength workout. I LOVE working out, but I need to be careful I don’t over-do it! I’ve learned that I am not very good at staying active when suffering from an injury, so being sidelined is the LAST thing I want.

90 Degree Chest: 15 @ 20 lb, 15 @ 40 lb, 15 @ 40 lb

Day 67 | December 24, 2009: 5 m run

I really wanted to run outside, but we had an ice storm on Wednesday (and it continued through Thursday) so I figured I better stick to the treadmill. For the last 2 miles of my run, Steven did Ab Ripper X. My abs hurts just looking at the tv!

Distance: 5.0 | Time:  50:03 | 1: 10:21 | 2: 10:11 | 3: 10:00 | 4: 9:50 | 5: 9:41

Day 68 | December 25, 2009: cross

I did Level 2 of The 30 Day Shred (with 2 pound weights) followed by a 2 mile walk on the treadmill. It felt good to get a workout in before the holiday festivities (even though it was a small workout!).

Running-related, I got a new pair of Brooks Adrenaline shoes (the GTs 10s!) for Christmas from my in-laws. I really wanted a new pair of running shoes, so I am super excited to have received them.

Pretty new shoes!!!

I also received some cash, which I will likely use for the Wisconsin Half Marathon entry fee, or to buy some YakTrax. Or to pay bills.

Distance: 2.0 | Time:  30:00 | 1: 15:00 | 2: 15:00

Day 69 | December 26, 2009: rest

Day 70 | December 27, 2009: 5 m run

Does anyone else feel super guilty exercising when they have guests in town? I tried to get up early to run, but I’ve been sleeping so well, I didn’t want to get up. So instead of putting in 8 miles, I put in 5, starting at 7:30. I feel bad leaving the house, but I feel so much better all day when I run.

I am going to count my 9:08 mile (in the 18° temp) for Lauren’s Winter Misery One Miler. It was the best I could do in the snow/ice covered sidewalks. I was already slipping a bit!

Distance: 5.0 | Time:  5030 | 1: 10:08 | 2: 10:18 | 3: 10:39 | 4: 10:14 | 5: 9:08

Week Summary: 15.00 miles

Now, to completely contradict what I just wrote… I am really happy with the amount of exercise I was able to fit in this week, despite feeling bad about taking time for it with guests in town. In the past, I NEVER worked out during this time of year. Not this much anyway. This year, I woke up wanting to exercise. And I feel so good when I do. So… I hope that is something that sticks around.

Girl you did a lot this week and I love the new kicks. I do worry about the gym being overcrowded, but only in January when all those fools who don’t work out all year long get a new lease on life and come to my gym and work out on my equipment and go to my yoga class. They’re all usually gone by Feb, so I just wait it out.

  3. I hate leaving to go exercise while everyone else stays at home. I’ve learned that it’ okay to do that but I long for that family who all goes together like in Dan in Real Life. That would be nice. Your are kicking ass with all that training.

I agree! I hate leaving while everyone is at home, I still do it though.. I try to go really early in the morning while everyone is still asleep. Training looks great though!
I also reallyyy hate the gym in January, it’s always SO crowded!

  5. Oh, my gosh… I HATE the gym in early January and late May / early June. It’s always SO CROWDED then, and I do not like crowds! I suppose I should be grateful that so many people let their resolutions peter out, hmm?

  6. I feel slightly guilty exercising– more when I’m a visiting guest than when we have visitors! I feel like my in-laws always react a little to my desire to workout every day– like they think it’s strange or extreme or something.

Whatever…working out (especially when visiting my in-laws 🙂 is completely necessary to my mental well-being!

Hope you like those new running shoes! I’ve never tried Brooks, but I know they’re supposed to be the best 🙂

I know what you mean about feeling guilty, but I am definitely one to get up early and try to fit it in before anyone knows. Or I’ll suggest some kind of activity (a walk etc) that is SORT of like exercise haha

If only I was as motivated! Lately I’ve been craving tons of sleep and then I’ll wake up and either have to rush or just skip it. Skip usually wins.. heh.

I’m one of those people who tends to put off exercising when there’s guests over. Not really because I feel guilty or anything, but because I don’t want to wake them up by being on the treadmill or thumping around to a DVD.. lol.

Crowded gyms bother me. I like my space when working out and I like being able to use any machine I want for as long as I want. 🙂

  10. great new shoes!
and i am off to glance at your vegan pizza recipe…yum!!!!!!!!!

    Merry Xmas (belated) 🙂

Congrats on the shoes! You look great!!
Between all my stomach issues and just general holiday craziness (and cold, and snow), I only got two walks in while I was visiting my folks. But, I figure it is better than nothing. I need some yoga tonight to work the kinks out of my back, and I plan to hit the gym tomorrow! 🙂

  12. YAY for new running sneaks! I definitely could use a new pair myself. I can always tell when my knees and shins start hurting, that it’s time for an exchange. 😀 Let me know how you like that brand!

Sorry to be confusing! My office gym is about 50 miles from my house. It is only open M-F!

    Thanks 🙂

I think that is awesome that you were able to get in so much fitness! I really had big plans and most of them got away from me. I love that you fit the shred in there too! I am on my last week at level 3 and it kills! And yay for christmas running gifts!! I was happier than anyone when I got all my running goodies!!

  16. Oh I do dread the crowds… I didn’t do a thing last week. Mostly because of the craziness we had in WV with all the snow, no electricity and heat…. oh I am soooooooooooo glad to be back home 🙂

Sounds like you have been having some pretty good workouts! I need to start doing some more strength workouts 🙁 lol

  18. Back when we went to a gym, it was always crowded right after the holidays. However by February, it was back to normal. Sadly, not many people stick with working out which is a shame because it’s fun!

What up Brooks girl! I love Brooks adrens! So far the only shoe I’ve found that fits my narrow foot very well and doesn’t feel clunky for a stability shoe.

  19. I always feel bad exercising when we have company in town. It’s silly though because I don’t need to spend every single second with them but I still feel guilty. My good friend’s whole family runs together when they are in town and I always think she is pretty lucky that they can do it together and no one is left out.

Ugh. Don’t remind me about the New Year’s crowd at the gym. I feel like a huge whale after our cruise (where I also caught a cold so didn’t exercise as much as I wanted) and can’t wait to get back to the gym….but I don’t want it to be crowded!
