It feels like summer already / Calpahlon Pans Giveaway WINNER

If you missed my Wisconsin Half Marathon Recap this weekend, check it out here.

I know summer doesn’t officially start for quite a few more weeks, but once my schedule becomes full, it begins to feel like summer to me. And right now, I have something going on every weekend until the middle of June, and I won’t be surprised if the following weekends become booked as well. Fun times ahead!

Is your summer (or warm weather) calendar filled with more activities than your winter calendar? Do you tend to lay out your summer plans very early on, or are you looser with your schedule?

The first winter after we got married, I kind of lazed around at the house every weekend. So the next year, and this year, I made more of an effort to be active and see friends more. However, my summer still fills up more quickly. Races, travel, meet-ups… it just seems that summer is the time to spend more time with people. I wonder if that is why some people get depressed during the winter months as well (along with SAD) – less interaction with friends.

I don’t try to plan every summer weekend in advance, it just seems to happen that way! When things pop up that we want to do, it seems we always have other things planned, so we end up scheduling on the few available weekends left… and we keep doing that until our schedule is full.

I used the Random Number Generator for the Calphalon Pans Giveaway (before I put the entries in though, I deleted all the non-entry comments to make it fair).

Here are your random numbers:

I am a planner. Everything is done months in advance if possible.

You asked about my virtual race. Yes, you can run a 10K race and also count it for my race if you would like. Just let me know!

  2. I plan everything, but it really does seem like in the winter, it’s just more appealing to stay inside!!

It’s the opposite here on the Gulf Coast. It’s too hot and humid and gross during the summer to want to be outside. You only see folks out walking or running in the early morning and the evening. All people think about is getting out of town! Spring and fall are the busy seasons.

To me it feels like that summer makes me want to do more things. Not only fun stuff but also cleaning and paying bills.. it’s very weird but I have a huge urge to get a lot of things done :).
I plan things if I meet up with friends but other than that I just go with the flow. ๐Ÿ™‚

For somethings we plan, like concerts to ravinia or trips in the area. Other times, we just go with the flow and see what happens.

I get nervous when my calendar starts filling up for summer. I don’t like it. I like for my summer weekends to be carefree and do-what-I-want sort of days which may mean hopping in the car to see my nephew or hightailing it to the beach.

  7. Nicole, RD says:

I like to keep my summer open! We live in the south, so everyone wants to visit while it’s warm! We get all sorts of visitors in the summer and then have to travel during all the snow to everyone else! Ugh!

my schedule fills up quickly during the summer, I don’t know why. i don’t necessarily like it that way, but the things are mainly out of my control, such as people visiting, etc. all good things, but THINGS, nonetheless!

  9. Ameena says:

I am a planner for sure but I don’t like to plan my weekends too far in advance. I like to know that I can hang out and relax if I don’t feel like going out. For me weekends are way too short to be rushing around!!

  10. Alice says:

NO WAY! OH MY GOODNESS I AM VERY VERY EXCITED RIGHT NOW ๐Ÿ™‚ email coming shortly! ๐Ÿ™‚

oof, my weekends / months are overplanned (in advance) all year round, not just summer! my next free weekend is currently in june, and august is already full. what the heck.

  11. Leah says:

I am not a planner. Its probably solely due to laziness, but unless its a trip or something I dont like to plan things. What if I dont feel like it when the time comes?
Especially in the summer – I like to have time to go to the beach and not have anything else to do.

  12. YAY! Congrats to Alice! Enjoy…calphalon is AWESOME!

  13. congrats to you on your half! and to alice!

and summer plans are the best…you gotta live it up inthe summer!

that email…yikes. group lists. that’s a recipe for disaster for me ๐Ÿ™‚

I think I am actually more laid back and loose with plans in the summer, because I don’t know if I’ll be feeling a “lazy day of summer” or a “wow it’s so beautiful I just want to be outside and bike/run/walk/insert activity”. ๐Ÿ˜›

  15. diane says:

That is a really interesting observation about why people might get depressed in the winter. I know I have been going out and planning stuff a TON more. Part of that is just simply having more energy with the sunshine and the longer days.

  16. i tend to go with the flow though this summer i would like to plan an rv trip sooooooo i suspect we better start planning!

  17. martymankins says:

Yes, summer for me is all about spending as much time outdoors as I can. I plan camping, biking and yard time. I don’t do so well in the winter time outdoors, so I reduce what I do, activity wise.

  18. Bethany says:

My summers always get filled up fast. I’m hopeful that this summer I will have some down time but in June I will be traveling about 20/30 days so that will be fun. July and August should be more low key ๐Ÿ™‚
