Random Thoughts Thursday IX

By , February 2, 2012 5:24 am
  • I am unfairly hard on (read: a bitch to) a few people in my life for no (really good) reason. I won’t go in to the details, but will say I need to work on this. As someone who is often the brunt of someones bad mood… well, I don’t want to be known as that person.
  • Food confession – the healthier I eat the more obsessed I become with buying food and stocking up on it. It’s like I am testing myself (case in point – all the stuff I brought home from HyVee last weekend – some was for friends, but come on). This may or may not be (mentally) healthy behavior. Actually, I know it’s bad. It eventually leads to a binge. No more of that.
  • I think I want to learn how to box. For realz.
  • Or maybe be a ninja. Have you played Fruit Ninja on the Xbox Kinect? Fun times! We tried it at my brother-in-law’s (BiL) on Sunday (me and my BiL below).

  • Congrats to everyone who signed up for the Chicago Marathon! It’s an amazing race! I did not sign up. I am not planning on signing up for a marathon until I get to a healthy weight and keep it off for awhile. That does not mean I am not doing long runs – I am just not training for a marathon.
  • For dinner last night Steven made BBQ Soy Curls! They were so good and easy to make! I think even I could make them (if you are new to my blog, you should know that my husband does all the cooking). All Steven did was let the soy curls soak in water, then saute them with BBQ sauce.

  • Data has been so needy and talkative (more than normal) since we got back from Kansas City. I think he actually missed us!

That was a funny video. I love the picture of Data.

  2. Boxing would be fun! I am intrigued by kickboxing, but there’s too much choreography involved. Boxing would be cool because it lacks that…

People asked me if I was signing up for the marathon yesterday. I passed. My passion is for the 13.1- no desire yet to run any further.

    • kilax says:

You know, I gotta think that if I can do kickboxing, anyone can! I am SO SO SO uncoordinated!

Do you get a lot of people asking about when you are going to do a marathon?

  3. Courtney says:

You look fantastic- and so skinny (not too skinny though)!!
I think Fruit Ninja looks like fun! And, many years ago I wanted to learn how to box so I called everyone in the yellow pages and their response was “we don’t teach girls how to box”. Have I ever told you how much I love living in a small town sometimes?? But, that was several years ago so who knows if their answer may have changed.
Ah, Data, he is so cute.. he did miss you guys!!! Give him some head skritches for me!
    =^..^=

    • kilax says:

      Thanks Courtney 🙂

That sucks that you got that response when you wanted to learn how to box! Wow.

  4. Liz says:

I’m thinking about Chicago…I feel the same though about wanting to run with the weight off. That was my plan for NY, but I ran it anyway and did ok sooo…big decision to make!

  5. Kelly says:

I’ve played fruit ninja on my phone and iPad, but not Xbox Connect! It looks even more fun on connect! 🙂

It seemed like Facebook and the blogging world were all blowing up with Chicago Marathon registrations this year. I’m excited for the race (even though I’m not running it). I’m going to be there though, cheering on all my friends!

  6. carol says:

The nice thing is that it doesn’t take a big weight loss to feel it in your runs. After just a few pounds I could already feel that my calves appreciated it. One time I lost 30 pounds and it made me feel like a gazelle! But like you said, “and keep it off”, now that is the hard part. In so many ways it is hard to lose weight and run. On one hand running is a great calorie burner and on the other, it increases appetite and does a little trick on your head to make you think you can eat more than you really can. In a perfect world we’d never be able to out eat our run! : )

  7. bobbi says:

I am a teensy bit sad (maybe more than a teensy bit) that you are not running Chicago…but I COMPLETELY understand 🙂

Fruit ninja looks hilarious, but you need to be making more noises (we’ve been watching way too much kung fu panda over here…hiiiiYA!)

    • kilax says:

I would have signed up if my BiL did! But I convinced him that was NOT a good idea. I think he should do a HM first.

I would love to see your kids play fruit ninja!

  8. Kristina says:

In another life, I would definitely be Shaun White, the crazy snowboard genius. He’s amazing.
I think it’s good to know what you really want to focus on. Right now, I’m not doing much running (at all) and haven’t signed up for ANY road races yet. It’s kind of killing me, but I also want to seriously focus on biking (or cycling?) and have to make that a priority.

  9. sizzle says:

I love that picture of Data- it really does look like he’s talking.

  10. Gingerfoxxx says:

If you want, you can run the Chicago Marathon vicariously through me. And by run, i mean suffer immensely!

Also, that Ninja game looks awesome! I love interactive games like that!

  11. Boxing scares me. I took a kickboxing class when I was younger and I loved it, but I feel like I’ve lost a lot of coordination since then. It did make me feel pretty hardcore though. I very much liked that part.

  12. martymankins says:

Cats always miss their people when they can’t see you on your normal schedule. The older they get, the more dependent they get, the more they cry when you get home.

    Those pickles look really good.

  13. Erin says:

Mmmm, BBQ “Chicken” sounds really good right now.

Your outfit in the photos/video is super cute! Looks comfy, too.

Also, I’ve never really seen a Kinect in action. That thing is pretty darn awesome.

I agree that if you don’t have the stuff around then you can’t binge on it! I don’t even go down a lot of the aisles in the grocery store because I know I can’t have that stuff in my house.

    • kilax says:

I was thinking last night “I want to make this for Erin!” I think you would find the soy curls interesting.

      Thank you!

The Kinect is fun! At least that game was. We played a dodgeball game and a raft game too. And my sis has a dancing game.

  14. Emily says:

Data is one handsome cat! I’ve heard that when cats talk to us, they actually have their own names for us in their “meow” language. Cool, huh?

Those soy curls look very delicious! Love the contrast of color between the BBQ sauce and the pickles! (I watch a lot of Food Network, plus I’ve been taught that more color = more nutrition.) Where does one purchase soy curls?!?

  15. diane says:

I need to track down a meowing Data video, because I can’t remember what his meow sounds like and it’s driving me unnecessarily crazy. Doesn’t he have one of those meows that actually sounds like “meow”? (vs. mine who chirp and mewp and so forth but never make a sound that resembles me-ow.)

  16. Maggie says:

I took a kickboxing class awhile back and it was actually a lot of fun. I thought it was going to be cardio kickboxing, but it was actually kickboxing, which turned out to be funner. (That’s a word, right?) We occasionally “sparred” but had to stay far enough apart that we never actually touched each other. But pounding the bag? Awesome stress relief.

Also, I have a friend that I’m too hard on, and I need to stop it as well. It’s really shitty of me to always jump on any opportunity to make her the butt of a joke, even if I am just teasing. Especially because some of our other friends “tease” her a lot as well.

    • kilax says:

Where was that class? I think I would like something like that! Bring on the punching bag.

You are the only person who commented on that bullet. Thanks for your honestly. My situation is a bit like that.

  17. Kelsey says:

I full support you becoming a ninja.

  18. The Linz says:

Boxing would be so awesome. I have always gotten a kick (lol) out of kickboxing. So I think boxing would be so cool. I think it’s a great stress reliever to punch something. Ha ha!! 🙂
