Erin the Stylist

By , February 13, 2012 4:45 am

Awhile ago I saw this post on Losing Weight in the City, about how the blogger, Theodora, used a personal stylist to help her go through her closet and put some outfits together. I emailed the post to Erin and said “You could do this!” Then said, “Hey, you should help me go through my closet when you come over on the 12th!”

Pushy, much?

So, enter Erin the Stylist:

I went through my closet with Erin, pointing out the tops I never wear because I have no idea what to wear them with, and she put together some cute outfits for me. She even made a beige jacket and black skirt appear that I could not recall owning. Sweet! (Ignore my messy hair and my bad editing of these photos (body scale wise))

I also asked for help figuring out how to wear my summer dresses in the winter. Success!

After a few hours of going through my closet, we trekked over to Kohl’s where Erin found this jacket for me for $8.00! EIGHT DOLLARS!

I love Erin. Everyone needs a best friend like her.

Would you like someone to go through your closet and help you put some outfits together?

I mentioned to Erin that she should just pack my suitcase for NYC since she was there, but she didn’t bite on that. Ha ha. I think I will be wearing a few of these casual outfits (the whole reason we took photos was so I could remember what we came up with!).

  1. So cute! Great job, Erin!

I especially love the two outfits on the top left (teal blouse with patterned skirt and purple sweater with gray slacks) and the black dress over the white blouse.

    Erin did a great job.

Thanks 🙂 My husband was not sure if that skirt with the teal blouse was formal enough for the office but I liked how Erin put it together!

      • Erin says:

It’s totally formal enough! I would definitely wear that to my office and you know we have a stricter dress code than you do!

ERIN! Please come over! Wait. Let me get some cute pieces and then come over and show me how to wear them! Nice job! Kim, loving all your styling outfits!

  4. Kandi says:

Erin needs to come to the DC area and help me! haha.
I just went to Kohls this past week and got a pair of jeans for less than 8 bucks! I was so excited and love the way they fit. 🙂

It’s obvious Erin has some closet skills!

  6. This is awesome. I go through a clothing funk sometimes where I always wear the same outfits and dresses, just feeling very blah. This normally happens in the winter when the weather sucks and I have a case of the blahs anyways. Haha. Great post and lots of inspiration! I need to wear blazers more. They totally dress up any outfit!

    • kilax says:

Blazers do seem to work wonders! Erin said she heard somewhere to always have three layers on (or something) – that it makes you look more polished. I concur!

  7. love that $8 grey jacket! and the jeans with the boots, you are rocking that look! my closet could use some help and an outside eye as these days i’ve given up on wearing real clothes and tend to stick with athletic gear most of the time.

  8. Kelsey says:

This sounds SO FUN! i’m completely jealous! love your “new” outfits!

  9. Christina says:

I really like outfits 4, 6, 9 and the last one!! I think 5 would look even better with the grey pants, or a low heel/flat instead of the boots. You are such a fashionista seesta!

    • Christina says:

PS I like the necklace in outfit #8! 😉

      • kilax says:

I wore that today! But with the gray blazer I got at Kohl’s… then I realized it was Valentine’s Day and that wearing a pink dress makes me look like a sap!

  10. Gingerfoxxx says:

OH MY GOD! i need this help so, so bad…. It looks like you just went on a huge shopping trip!! 😀

    • Erin says:

You’re in Chicagoland, right? Like I just told Kelly, my prices are very reasonable. As in, I work for meals and friendship 🙂 Okay, that sounds creepy. I promise I’m not a weird homeless, friendless person.

    • kilax says:

Erin said she would come over and help you out 🙂

  11. Erin says:

I had SO MUCH FUN! And you were such a good sport putting on whatever I handed you. Now, why can’t I do this in my own closet? Doing it in someone else’s is so much more enjoyable.

Also, if anyone wants to hire me, I’m willing to negotiate 🙂

  12. Kelly says:

I am very jealous. I would love if someone would tell me what to wear!

  13. Pam says:

How cool! Funny what a fresh set of eyes can see.

  14. Etta says:

Erin did a great job. You have some very figure-flattering clothes!

  15. Mom says:

Wow you look great! Love the jacket!

  16. Kristina says:

I would love for someone to come go through my closet with me! I actually like a lot of my “outfits”, but I feel that I get really stuck in certain ruts. I would say that my biggest issue is buying some really stuff but then not wanting to get dressed up in it because I’m lazy. And then it languishes in my closet.
You, by the way, look awesome in all of those looks!

  17. cindy says:

What a great idea! I like that you took the pictures to remember what goes with what.

  18. J says:

OMG I love that jacket! I have been on the search for one just like that! I need to get to khols I guess but I always go and never find anything. You look really good in all those outfits!

  19. Cher says:

Looks great!! Sometimes we need some different perspective!

  20. The Linz says:

What a great idea! And the fact that you have photos now of all those outfits to look back on is brilliant! I think I just need another person’s eye too to see outfits that I don’t. You stare at the same clothes all the time it’s nice to have a different perspective.

  21. Laura says:

I love all of your outfits, especially the purple dress with the blazer and boots. I need an Erin too!! I have zero style!! You look so cute!!
