Random Thoughts Thursday XIV

  • I am getting in to the waist belt craze, you know, a couple years late, like normal. I keep picking up size large belts and thinking “Wow! This belt is too big! I must be getting smaller!” Uhh… no, Kim. It is because you are wearing it at your waist and not your hips. Ha ha ha!
  • Speaking of belts, I need some ideas for how to store mine. Where do you put yours?

  • This is my awesome leg tan as of last Sunday. Oh yeah… As Steven said to me “Calling them ‘sexy tan lines’ does not make them sexy.” Ha!

  • I decided I must have these shoes. They are in style, right?
  • I have an unhealthy obsession with banana chips. When we were in Iowa for my dad’s retirement party, I bought a huge bag of them in bulk. The bag lasted 6 days. Then I saw banana chips at ALDI on Monday and bought four bags. I wish I would have bought more.

  • Also on Monday, I happened upon the clearance Easter candy section at Target and found these bad boys (Brach’s Jelly Chicks & Rabbits). I bought two bags in case they turned out to be awesome. They did. I wish I would have bought more.

  • What is the point of these hanger strap things in t-shirts? You are not tricking me in to thinking your clothes are high quality, H&M!

  • I wasted 30 minutes last night (when I should have been sleeping) ironing a (impossible to iron) shirt (that I don’t even like) so I could wear it today and use it in my April fashion challenge. Here is the kicker – I am working from home today. Only Steven and my therapist will see me. Steven saw me ironing and said “Ooo, are you dressing up for me tomorrow?” I am not sure if fashion is worth the frustration of ironing a cotton top that is made of a zillion pieces.

There is a spray I use that is sold by the spray starch. It isn’t starch, and it makes ironing so much easier. I will admit that I ONLY iron when I HAVE to.

  2. abbi says:

Haha on the ironing! Even if it’s an easy to iron shirt, I seem to be able to mess it up. It’s one chore I cannot seem to grasp…so I just don’t do it, wrinkly clothes for me!

  3. Those shoes are awesome! My daughter would love them.

  4. Michel says:

I think the shoes would make an interesting fashion statement. lol. It might get you arrested downtown for catwalking but nonetheless. lol

  5. Kandi says:

I have a small coat rack thingy that hangs on the wall outside my closet where I hang my belts (and sometimes scarves and light jackets). I haven’t really embrassed waist belts but they look so cute on you that I should probably give it a shot.
I hate ironing. I rarely do it! Usually it’s when Joey asks me nicely if I will iron his shirt for him. At least he didn’t ask me to iron the shirt he wore to the wedding! (He had his sister iron it. haha.)

  6. Kelly says:

I hate ironing, with a passion, which is why most of my wardrobe is stretchy.

  7. Gingerfoxxx says:

good for you! If i was working from home i wouldn’t even put on pants. That and i don’t even own an iron.

  8. gina says:

What the effity is an iron?

  9. Stephany says:

Oh, I love hanger straps! Maybe I just don’t use good hangers but they are a lifesaver for clothes that tend to fall off the hanger. I just loop the straps around the top. Very helpful! 🙂

  10. This post made me laugh. I have stopped ironing my clothes and just started buying clothes you don’t need to iron. Win for being lazy! (And significantly diminishing the section of clothes I actually wear in my closet.)

H&M and Forever 21 have to be the worst with those little string things. They don’t need to be on EVERY top! Geez louise!

  11. sizzle says:

I never liked belts until a couple years ago. And now I love them! I drape them over a hanger but would like to invest in one of those belt hangers designed specifically for belts because they fall off a lot (I own over 25 belts).

Those little hangers for your shirt are so it doesn’t fall off the hanger. They are annoying, I agree, but sometimes useful. But not when they pop out of the shirt you are WEARING.

I hate to break it to you but those shoes? Are not fashionable. 😉

  12. Kelsey says:

CRACKING up at the hanger thing. seriously H&M does that??

  13. Christina says:

I have a couple different ways I store my belts. The first way is long screws in a wall… Very cheap/trashy way. The second way is to buy one of those big hanging racks from Walmart or Target (no more than $10) and hang them on that. I don’t know what they’re called but they’re metal, mine’s white. You’ve seen it right? I also hang scarves on mine.. It is a little crowded. :)You could hang that in your closet (if there’s room). If not, you could get one that hangs over the door, if you don’t already have something on your closet door. If you are still looking next weekend when I come we can figure something out. Maybe Ikea would have something.

    • kilax says:

Yeah, I think we should look. Maybe container store? You should see my closet. It’s kind of full 🙁 Although… I did just put the belts in a drawer. Lame. I’d kind of like them out!

  14. Maggie says:

I hate ironing and rarely do it. I have some clothing that wrinkles pretty easily. I either don’t wear them, or I just wear them wrinkly. I figure what’s the point of ironing, as soon as I sit down in it, it’s going to get wrinkled again.

I have a TON of belts. It’s kind of ridiculous. I kept stocking up on them at resales stores and clothing swaps. And of course I usually only wear the same 5 belts. Anyway, the ones I wear the most are hanging on over-the-door hooks on my folding closet doors. The rest are on the top part of a stacked pants hanger. It’s kind of like this – http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=17523791&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse&rkg_attid=417691632&zmam=77312802&zmas=1&zmac=1&zmap=17523791 – and I unhook the top tier and slide the belts on. The annoying part is when I want to wear a belt that is all the way at the end. #firstworldproblem The other tiers of that hanger hold my shorts/capris.

  15. I hate those hanger strings!!! All they do is stick out until someone awkwardly puts it away for you!

  16. J says:

A coworker brought the unsweetened banana chips and they tasted like cardboard. I hope you buy the sweetened ones! I wish I was working from home right now. Actually I just wish I was home!

  17. Random thought: Now that I have two blogs I never know which one to use to comment. I’m using the fashion one, though, because I’m mostly commenting on the ironing.

I DO NOT iron. In fact, I had to buy a new iron right before the Chicago Marathon to put those letters on my shirt. Our iron? Ruined in the flood that July. Yeah. My dry cleaner, however, recognizes me on sight. If it might need to be ironed? I just have the dry cleaner deal with it. Which is why I’m stupid excited there will be a dry cleaner IN our new building.

I’m going to need a new system for storing my belts pretty soon. Right now they’re just looped over a hanger. It’s kind of getting out of control.

    • kilax says:

I was wondering how you were deciding which blog to use to comment! 🙂

Taking them to the dry cleaner sound so much easier. They could probably figure out the mystery shirt with a million pieces of fabric in it 🙂

  18. Marcia says:

Iron? I’m with Gina on that. I have a hanger thing that has a dozen or so hooks protruding out from it for beltage.

  19. Melie says:

Oh my! that leg looks painful! how did you manage to get it like this? I think there is a secret ingredient in banana chips that you can’t ever get enough. And do you know what is worse? I just discovered plantain chips, and they come in both salty and sweet versions…

    • kilax says:

Plantain ships are SO damn good. One store we frequent sells them but I can never seem to find them! This is probably a good thing.

LOL – I wear the same pair of shorts a lot so that tan just keeps getting worse and worse!!!

  20. Etta says:

Banana chips are yummy! We have a dehydrator and I’m thinking about drying some fruit. They remind us of banana runts!

  21. martymankins says:

Easter clearance candy was in full effect at our local grocer on Monday. What would have cost us $10 the day before was only $5.

I used to eat banana chips when I was a teen. Mostly forced on me by my mom who was a health nut (Shaklee, GNC, herbal) back then. I don’t remember the last time I’ve had them as an adult.

Can’t wait to start on my tan. Last year, I had a nice head start when I went to Myrtle Beach in May.

  22. First, those tan lines are crazy. My legs don’t tan, they’re pretty much see through all summer long.

Second, those hanger straps make me crazy. Especially when they’re black like that. I have some on a really thin white top I have, and they looked awful. I cut them off.

  23. I stuck some of those rubbermaid hooks onto the inside of my closet and hang my belts on those. I have two, probably should add a 3rd.

  24. Mica says:

I love your banana chip face so much…SO MUCH. My new goal in life is to take a picture like that with you.

    • kilax says:

Thank you! I think that sounds like a lot of fun! What should we be excited about in our picture?!

  25. Not ideal but I put my belts on a hanger. I don’t drape them over but hook the buckle thru the neck of the hanger. I know that’s not a great description either, sorry! I can squeeze about 10 on a hanger.

  26. Kristina says:

I’m so boring when it comes to belts! I have black and brown, a few of each.
Have a good weekend and have fun working on your sexy tan lines!
