A new home for my race bibs

Yesterday I went from this:

(bigger, but older pic here)

to this:

to this:

and finally, this:

I think Gina was reading my mind with my early birthday gifts this year. She got me the new book about Scott Jurek, and a BibFOLIO. I thought maybe Steven had given her some hints about things I had been asking for, but nope, she just knows me that well!

I first saw BibFOLIOs at an expo I went to with Gina. I wanted to buy one but had already bought a few things in another booth and decided not to spend anymore.

What have you seen at a race expo and really wanted to get but told yourself no?

I have have entered a few blog giveaways for BibFOLIOs but never won. I wanted one because I was running out of room on my closet wall, where I was displaying all of my bibs and a photo from each race. My last few race bibs were just sitting in a stack on my dresser.

It was nice being able to see all the race bibs at once, but I couldn’t really show them to anyone… it’s kind of awkward to ask people to come in to your closet to see something! Especially when my closet is normally a disaster.

So I took all the bibs down last night and put them in the BibFOLIO. I put the photos on the back of each bib, so they are still all together. And I put the BibFOLIO downstairs where people can actually see  it!

Now it just feels really weird not to have them all up in my closet anymore. What should I put on that wall now?

I have never actually looked around at an expo before… and the only real expo I’ve ever been to was for MCM. I have been wanting some headbands that will actually stay on my head but I just haven’t gotten them yet.
That bibfolio looks pretty cool. My bibs are on the cabinets in my cube at work though I have about 5 at home that I haven’t remembered to bring to work yet. I still owe you a picture of my race bibs!
I like that you have a picture to go with each race. I hardly ever have photos from races but that’s my own fault.
I think you should replace the bibs with other photos since you are all about being up to date on printing photos. Or inspiration photos for outfits since you are more interested in fashion now and it is right inside your closet?

LOVE IT!!! I’ve been contemplating making a blurb book of all my races- photos of bibs medals me 🙂 but am far too lazy currently to organize it for the past 5 years (30+ races).

You should hang race posters in your closet now. 🙂 I have a bunch of those too and don’t know what to do with them either…

I cannot imagine how long it would take to make a book. This took forever. I am not sure how many bibs I had. But halfway through I was getting sick of taking the pins off.

I only have one race poster! I wish they would have had them at NYC last year. Maybe I missed it!

I was going to say race posters too! I love the bibfolio – such a cool way to show off your race history (and I never thought about attaching the picture to the back of each bib – BRILLIANT)!

this is great, I might actually be motivated to run just to have a cool collection like yours . . . . maybe not but it is really cute!

and you should be proud of your accomplishments!

  5. I’ve never seen this, but I think I need to consider getting myself one! Mine are all packed up in a photo box with my medals and have been for my last 10+ years of running post high school. We just had an offer accepted on a house and as soon as we get settled in I can not wait to do something with them. I must have 75+ bibs.

Oh Kim! It turned out great! That’s a pretty big project to tackle, too! I am so happy that you are displaying the BibFOLIO downstairs so that everyone can see all your bibs!

I like the idea of putting race posters in your closet.

A local Niketown store had race bibs displayed on a wire and I thought that was cool. It looked like banners hanging in the rafters.

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I can’t wait to show it to you when you come!

Did you send me a pic of that Niketown display? What a cool idea! Like how you display your cards. I love that.

Very cool! I should have one of those for all my bibs. I only save the ones I really like.

    • kilax says:

What do you like about them (to save them)? As I was going through mine, I noticed some were so plain, and some are not! And that some have changed throughout the years (for the same race).

  8. Kelly says:

Cute! I have a magnetic board for my bibs on the ego wall. I really should clean our basement so it looks more impressive.

  9. abbi says:

Love it…I’ve looked at this too but haven’t committed to purchasing one!

  10. Pete B says:

Cool place to put your bibs. I may have to get one!

  11. Liz says:

This is sooo cool. I wish I saved my bibs, but I end up tossing them, with the exception of my NY Marathon bib which is going to the grave with me 🙂

  12. Melie says:

What? do you mean that a shoebox in the storage room is not where my bibs should reside? Mind blowing!

  13. Laura says:

Very cool! Both the closet wall and the bibfolio!

  14. ChezJulie says:

I was going to say pictures of all your blog readers but I guess race photos would be cool, too!

  15. Anne says:

That is so cool! I don’t even know where all 4 of my race bibs are, but this is a good reason to keep them on hand I guess 🙂

And as for your closet wall, mine is covered with command hooks holding necklaces, scarves and purses, so there’s an idea.

    • kilax says:

You know, that is a FAB idea. I wanted a better place to hang my scarves. Hmm. Maybe Steven will make me something! 🙂

  16. Ooooh, that Bibfolio idea is brilliant! I have kept a few sacred bibs in the back of a hard-cover book. I wish they’d also come up with a great way to store (not necessarily showcase) medals … because those are scattered all over my house!

  17. The Linz says:

I was just thinking about what are you going to put in your closet instead? Hmmm…but I am excited about your bib folio. That is a great way to keep all your bibs together.

  18. Love this! How have I never seen or heard of Bibfolio until now?! Such a cute idea!

I love browsing around expos. I’m always tempted to buy running clothes there but never do. I’m too indecisive! 🙂

  19. Emily says:

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE!!!!! I don’t keep most of my race bibs but after seeing the Bibfolio, now I am inspired to start putting together a collection! With all that empty wall space, I vote you fill it up with all of your race medal holders. =D

  20. Erin says:

Emily’s idea about the race medal holds is good. So is the idea about the scarf hooks!

The bibfolio is an awesome idea. There are so many fun ways to store bibs. I don’t know why people would throw them out!

I really like your new home for your race bibs. And a lot easier to add to.
