Random Thoughts Thursday XXI

  • New discovery – I don’t have to be riding my bike to fall! Bobbi and I ran a few miles in the dark after our strength class last night. I was pointing out a messed up part of the sidewalk to Bobbi, telling her to watch out… when I totally tripped and landed on the same side I fell on Tuesday night. This was more amusing though, because Bobbi was with me, and had to jump over me (sorry, Bobbi) and when I got up I had apples stuck in my hair. Fun times.

  • Speaking of Tuesday night’s bike crash, my neck was super sore on Wednesday. I couldn’t turn it fully, and I could not do crunches in strength class. Boo hoo… I was really sad to miss out on those crunches… <;-- sarcasm.
  • Here’s a First World Problem if I ever saw one. The wonderful proximity key that allows me to unlock my car and turn it on without ever touching my key has a dead battery. So I had to take the key out to unlock my car, then put the key in to the ignition to drive it. Geez, before I know it, I will be using a hand crank to start a car. WHAT IS THE WORD COMING TO?!?!?!!?!!??!?

  • I’m running the Chicago Half Marathon this Sunday! I am forcing Emily to run it with me, so there are chances she may never want to talk to me again. Because I have not seen her in a long time and we need to catch up by talking through the entire race. So maybe it will be the other racers who are annoyed, not Emily. Hmm. Anyway, this race is 6 days before my 50K so I plan to take it easy! I would like to finish in under 2:30.

  • Geez, that 50K is awfully soon! The 10-day forecast will be up today! I suppose it’s time to really look at the race course and think about this thing. I had been trying out trail Mizunos in anticipation of wearing them on race day, but they don’t have the cushioning I have become accustomed to with my Asics. So I was going to wear my street Asics. Then I was reading the October Runner’s World Monday night in bed, and there was an article comparing the new trail Asics Gel-Scouts to the street Asics I wear. Sigh. Lesson learned. DO NOT put the Amazon app on your phone. Just DON’T do it, folks! These showed up at my house yesterday:

  • I am SO happy this is only a four-day work week!!!
  • Isn’t it too early in the season for me to be receiving a ridiculous amount of catalogs in the mail?! Note – these all came within a two-day span.

This whole post made me laugh. You’re awesome.

  2. Losing Lindy says:

Did you get hurt? I hope you are ok.

    • kilax says:

Thanks for asking! My left knee is all scratched up and a bit inflamed on the outside. No muscle/bone pain, just itchy/burning scratches.

  3. Yay for the race on Sunday! Looks like the weather will be perfect!

Maybe I’ll see you guys? My family is going to be with me, but if I have a free moment, I’ll text ya!

  4. bobbi says:

Are you feeling ok today? I was half hoping that your fall would magically jar your neck the other way and fix everything!

I hate catalog time of the year. Sigh. So so many.

Wish I were running with you and Emily this weekend – have FUN!

    • kilax says:

I feel fine (just scratches) but I could not sleep well last night – I guess you use your neck a lot to get up/roll around in bed and I couldn’t do it! I bet I will be better soon. At least I can still run!

I wish you were running with us too πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

  5. kandi says:

No more falls!! πŸ™‚ I’m excited for your 50k. You are awesome.

  6. Gingerfoxxx says:

Hooray for fall catalogs!!!!! That means it must be here!!!

  7. Oh no, you crashed this week? I hope your neck heals up soon. Shoot, you’re a hazard to yourself both on foot and on wheels!

Excited to see you this weekend. Hopefully the madness isn’t too much and we get the chance to hang out a bit! And your 50k is now 10 days away…how did that pop up so fast??? You’re going to do great, it’ll be a blast!

    • kilax says:

Yes! I hope I do get to see you! Are you going to the brunch at Erin’s or heading home straight after?

GAH! Time flies! Has it really been that long since I’ve seen you?! MISS!

  8. gina says:

KIM! Am I going to have to lock you up inside?! Nah, you would hate that. I love, love, love that pic of you and Bobbi!

I hope your injuries heal quickly – you have a busy couple of weekends coming up!

  9. I’m so excited for your 50k! If I wasn’t on a plane to Vegas that day, I’d love to come out there and cheer you on! I have so much respect for those the ultra distance. You know, 50ks are just the beginning!!

I hope you’re feeling okay from your fall! I’ve tripped at night often enough as well, unfortunately.

Also, I’m sending you an email. We need to schedule a date for Native Foods soon! πŸ™‚

  10. kelsey says:

can i have those shoes? friends share.

  11. Good luck in Chicago! I’m so excited for you!

I lost the remote control for my car (I only had one), so I’ve been having to use the key to unlock it for 2 years now! I like to think of it as “retro,” so then I don’t feel too annoyed about it. It’s inconvenient though. I’d try to get a new battery stat if I were you!

  12. Xaarlin says:

Good luck on the half this weekend! I wish I was running it too πŸ™ boo for injuries so close to race day. I hope you’re back to 100% by the weekend.

And OMG! Your 50k is next week! I’m sooooo excited to live vicariously through your trail running experience.

  13. Amy says:

OUCH!!! Dying to know – did you eat the apples?
Love those Asics trail shoes – they are really good looking! Will you have time to get them broken in a bit before the trail race?

    • kilax says:

No, the apples were all broken in half in weird pieces… so bizarre!

I have worn brand new shoes to halfs and marathons before so I think I will be ok with these. I do plan a few runs in them first though, to see if I even like them! πŸ™‚

  14. Emily says:

You are too funny! And I am super excited to run the Chicago Half Marathon with you – it will be great to catch up! The weather is looking nice so I am cautiously optimistic of a strong race (by my standards, at least)!!!!! Can’t wait!!!

Sorry to hear about the neck pain and the fall (I’ve gone through both myself, so I feel your pain, literally). I wish you a speedy recovery! So excited for your 50K coming up, you are going to ROCK it!!!

Love love LOVE the new Asics!

  15. Erin says:

Thanks for the warning about the Amazon app. I will stay far, far away.

Also, apparently Eddie Bauer and Land’s End REALLY want you to shop there. I mean, they sent you two catalogs each. Sheesh.

  16. Pete B says:

Have fun at the Chicago Half. Maybe I will see you there!
