My SCARY new passport (photo)

So

My new passport photo.

Sigh.

My passport officially expired earlier this year. But it had my maiden name on it anyway. So I would have had to lie to get out of the country?! Who knows. I wasn’t using it. But it really bugged me that I did not have a current passport. I feel like I need to be ready to flee the country on a whim, if necessary (<– half joking).

So we got our passport pictures taken last December. Yeah. A long time ago. And they don’t let you smile for them anymore… hence… this:

Come on, please let me smile! My smile is my best feature! I think it might as well look like this:

Ha ha. Really, I don’t care that the picture is so awful, but… it really, really, really looks like a not so happy photo of me. I hope none of you have to see me like that in person. And Steven, since you do see me like that nearly every day, I am sorry. Maybe using the passports would fix that face? Ha!

Is your Driver’s License/Passport/Student ID/Work ID/whatever photo flattering?

My work ID is bad too. But I like my Driver’s License picture.

My driver license is horrible – I look so mean! And my passport photo was taken a few days after I had my wisdom teeth removed, so you can imagine how great THAT is.

  2. Losing Lindy says:

I love the devil face…too funny, you could have also put a crown on you, because the queen rarely smiles 😉

  3. Emily says:

They don’t let you smile for passport photos anymore!?!?!? WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THAT!?!?!?!? Grrrrr. In any event, you do look very intense in your photo. You could flash your passport photo when you need to do really serious things, like give supervisors upward feedback. That would set the tone! =D

I actually really like both my driver’s license photo and my work ID photo. But my passport photo (even though they let me smile for it) leaves a lot to be desired, ugh.

  4. I’m on my third passport, but my first one is terrible and all my friends like to look at it and laugh. I am about 12 years old, super chubby (story of my childhood), and my hair is all over the place, plus I am wearing a purple turtleneck. My parents had no idea.

    Yours isn’t that bad….

  5. gina says:

I am so glad you have a renewed passport – you never know when we will get the urge to go to Connecticut! I didn’t get a chance to smile while taking my Drivers License photo so it pretty much looks like a mug shot!

I love your Devil picture – mainly because you are wearing lipstick hahaha!

  6. abbi says:

Haha, yeah, the no smiling thing threw me off when I got mine as well! My driver’s license photo is hilarious because it looks nothing like me. I cut my hair cut right before going over for it so the hairdresser thought she needed to style my hair which I never do so it’s all curly and not at all like I would have it on a regular basis.

  7. So I went to get my new ID a few weeks ago and I had a tan scarf on. The lady said nothing so when my picture was printed out I totally look I have no neck! LOL

I have to renew my passport and change my name too! I can’t wrap my head around how to do both at the same time since on all the websites it only explains either or. Help me out here!!!

  8. I hate my passport photo too. They made me not smile so I look like I’m trying to not smile… haha Your photo isn’t so bad! Data really wants his own passport.

  9. Kristina says:

I have to get a new passport next year and I’m not excited at all. I don’t like my current passport photo (it’s pretty bad), but the new passports are a bit too “GO USA!” in my opinion.

  10. kelsey says:

I really don’t think it’s that bad- you skin looks FAB in that pic. You should probably actually draw those devil features onto your real passport though-will help you get through security. Trust me.

  11. My work ID is really bad and, unless you beg and plead, apparently you can’t retake it (it would require the worker lady to get out of her seat).

  12. Amy says:

I actually don’t think it’s that bad – you’re just not used to seeing yourself that serious… It kind of makes me think of Cameron Diaz (I hope that doesn’t sound too creepy, but I mean that in a good way!)

  13. Xaarlin says:

Haha love it! I always keep mine up to date in case I need to flee the country as well 😉

  14. kapgar says:

You should’ve grinned anyway and, when they yell at you for smiling, say you had a bad botox treatment and can’t /un/smile.

  15. ChezJulie says:

You’re right… your smile is your best feature. You have a great smile!

  16. Pam says:

OH PLEASE!!!!! That is not nearly as bad as you made it out to be! LOL Damnit, you’re gonna force my hand and MAKE me show you mine…

    • kilax says:

YES! I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to see it. You posted those nice pics today… now a less nice pic for tomorrow? Please? 🙂

  17. Marcia says:

Haha! Greg the kids and I all had our passport pics done at CVS earlier for a spring break trip. They took them all before remembering we couldn’t be smiling. SO we had to redo. They are awful!

  18. Michel says:

    lol!

My DL’s picture is of me while I was 6 months pregnant with my oldest. I made them put my before weight on it to. LOL. I don’t think I smiled either. They want you to look like serial killers these day for the day you snap and go ape shit on someone I guess.

  19. Erin says:

I don’t think I’m smiling in mine, either, but that’s because I had it taken when I was a ball of anxiety. It’s pretty horrible. Also, for some reason I think it’s black and white.

My DL photo, though, is awesome. I never want to change it. And my work ID is okay even though my hair doesn’t look like that at all any more.

  20. Hahaha my passport picture is soo scary. I’ve actually had someone stop me to double check that it was me and when I traveled to Nepal one of the Nepali airport workers actually laughed at me. I just think it’s funny!

Your picture isn’t bad at all though but I second Kelsey, please actually draw the horns on the picture.

  21. Maggie says:

Yup, my passport photo is just as angry looking as yours. My drivers license pic is OK, but my recently-expired state ID picture is really good! I wish I could have transferred that pic to the drivers license that I just renewed.

  22. The Linz says:

I actually don’t think that is a bad picture of you — but I understand what you mean. I had to get a military id and they would not let me smile for that. I wasn’t sure how to not smile, and ended up almost frowning. The pic itself is good but my facial express is so saaaadd. LOL! Great reminder by the way — i need to update my passport. I had to get a new one for our honeymoon but wouldn’t have my name changed by then, so now it’s still in my maiden name.

  23. Christina says:

Your picture looks better then mine. I look like I am stoned. I have dual citizenship in Greece and the US so my Greek Passport Photo is when I was 12. I look so ridiculous back then.

  24. J says:

I did a little smile in my passport photo but its still funny looking. I actually did mine right after I got married and so I made sure to look since because the first time I got it I looked like I had just rolled out of bed cause I was in college.

  25. Kandi says:

I smile so often that they should let me smile in all my photos! I suppose I am going to be needing a new passport photo soon if I ever stop being lazy and want to change my name on my current one. Since we are planning a trip out of t he country for next spring I should probably get on that.
Someone told me you aren’t supposed to smile for your driver’s license photo either but I did and the guy working there didn’t say anything to me about it.

  26. gingerfoxxx says:

heehee, i like this. You really can’t smile for them anymore?? Lame. Luckily mine is good for 3 more years…

  27. Giiiirl, I couldn’t agree with you more – why can’t we smile in them????!!! Must we all be made to look like mean B*****s!

but, VERY honestly speaking, I think you look great! I agree with someone else who said I was waiting for something terrible, but you look fab!

  28. Kacy says:

Haha, you’re hilarious. The thought of changing over my passport and other documents to my married name makes me sad. I really don’t want to do it.

  29. For as long as I’ve had a passport, we weren’t allowed to smile in them, and I’ve always hated that. But now we can’t smile on our drivers licenses either, it’s awful. Everything looks like a mugshot now.
