Notes:

  • Wow! Sunday morning brought PERFECT temps for a run! Well, a summer run. And in Iowa (where I was this weekend), anyway. Mid 60s and low humidity with a breeze? Yes, please! Too bad I went to bed past 1:00 and couldn’t get out of bed to put many miles in! Did anyone else have nice, cool weather on their Sunday run?
  • For the first part of my Sunday run I did a run/walk with my dad! Walk a mile, and run 2 minutes every half mile until we got to 3.5 miles. I wonder if he’ll stick with it so we can do that rescheduled 5K on July 27th together. We’ll see… (I hope so!)
  • My pace was ALL over the place this week! I ran the hilly trail behind my house three times, and each time was kind of nasty hot and humid. That slowed me down. My weekend runs were after late nights filled with eating lots and LOTS of food. Ha ha. You know what that means. My fastest run was with Emily! Good thing I have another run scheduled with her this week!
  • Anyone doing any Independence Day races? It actually looks like the weather here will be decent, and there are a lot of race opportunities… but I should stay home and study. Ha ha. Or! Clean my house.
  • Despite recent running laziness I was hoping to somehow be to 1000 miles by the end of June (last year it was August 3rd), in hopes that I would somehow get close to 2000 for the year. Uh, yeah… no. 948.15! So close! I would just like to run more miles than last year (which was 1620), if my legs allow me. Do you set mileage goals for the year (run, bikes, swim, walk, whatever)?

  1. I am so jealous of your weather! Seriously one day this week I ran in 95 deg temps in the middle of the day carrying a backpack filled with a change of clothes (I decided to run instead of drive to get my run in). Bad idea. But it was an easy day and it kept my pace SLOW. Awesome that you got to run with your dad.

  2. Anne says:

Yes, today did bring perfect weather. Sigh. Would’ve been an awesome day for a half. I’m envious of your cooler morning runs too! It was just as cool in Cali, but like 90% humidity again! It seems I can’t escape that!

Where are the 4th of July races in the area that you might be looking at (but should be studying, obvi)?

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha – I was telling my dad what awesome weather it would have been for a half marathon! Funny how much it can change it a week!

There is a 5K for the Wounded Warrior Project in Forest Lake, and a 5K in Antioch. I think there are a few others, too!

  3. Michelle says:

    Way to rock the week.

  4. Kristina says:

We had super hot weather this weekend – boo!
Your running mileage is really awesome, even if you are short of 1000 at this point. I don’t necessarily set mileage goals, although I hoped to ride 500 miles in June. Not even close! Probably 350, which isn’t terrible, but I’m not setting any records here!

    • kilax says:

I was reading about the crazy heat on the west coast! When is it expected to come down?

500 miles BY June or in June? Either way, 350 sounds amazing to me!

      • Kristina says:

So, I was hoping for 500 in June. Maybe one of these days (or years…).
It has been hot, but it’s a dry heat, so we can’t complain too much, plus it is going to break Wednesday. Supposedly. Today already feels cooler than Saturday and Sunday!

  5. jan says:

Ahh very cool and dry here, too. Such a nice change from the stifling humidity last week!

So cute your dad goes with you. I can’t imagine my dad doing that! Evan loves to, though.

  6. Bean says:

Great week! I have a 1500 mile goal for the year. I am at 747 so might need to pick it up a bit in the fall. Running the Red, White and Boom 1/2 in Minneapolis. It will be my 30th half marathon. Super excited. Maybe you can get out for a shorter distance- 5K then you can study and clean too.

    • kilax says:

What a cool name for a race!!! And you are right on track for your goal!

Ha ha. If I am racing, I would rather do a half, like you. Unless it’s some miraculously cool day (again!), a 5K does not sound appealing! 😉

  7. Kim says:

Great running this week! Looks like you’ve been running even though it’s hot?

  8. EmilyJ says:

I love, love, love that you get to run with your dad! How special!!! 🙂 You know my Sunday run was fab although, I’m feeling it today :/ Good thing it’s a rest day! My fastest run was with you too! Lets push each other again this week! My mileage goal was 1300 for 2013. I squeaked in 1000 right at the end of December so I was ready to crush that. I’m at 760 now, but I’m guessing I probably won’t hit that mileage. Oh well. There’s always next year! 😉 I’m so impressed that you are almost at 1000! Amazing!

  9. Kandi says:

I ran with my Dad when I was visiting last weekend. My mom is injured so it was just my dad and me for 5k and it was nice to get some alone time to run with him. He just got into running last fall and has come so far!

  10. Declan says:

Your Tuesday photo is CREEPY. I had a hard time reading the rest of your post.

Sunday weather was GREAT for running..south. North..different story.

I think I need to modify my mileage goal for the year. Or maybe, # of injuries goal…

    • kilax says:

Hee hee hee. It did turn out pretty creepy, didn’t it?! Ha!

LOL. What was going on up north? 😛

      NO INJURIES!

  11. Erin says:

Go, Kim’s dad, go! Although, did he run in his blue pants and shirt? 🙂

So far the heat hasn’t been bothering me too much, either. Of course, I’m not running nearly as often as you are! Although, if it could warm up and stop threatening rain for my trapeze classes I’d be down with that!

    • kilax says:

Yes, so we have to get him some workout clothes… stat!

How cold can it be to do trapeze outside? You are back at it this week, right?

  12. The weather was gorgeous in the suburbs on Sunday, too! Had a brief conversation with a guy on the trail about how perfect the weather was for a long run. Kinda wished I could have saved that weather for one of my 20 milers, but oh well. I’ll be working on July 4th, so no races for me, but I do have 11 miles planned for the morning.
