Friday Question 246

By , January 24, 2014 12:39 pm

That last post was too serious to leave up on a Friday. Ha ha. Thank you for all your thoughtful comments!

Do you have an eclectic mug collection, or is your stuff all matchy matchy?

I used to not be a very frequent user of mugs. I don’t drink coffee, and I carry a bottle around the house for drinking water (so I rarely use glasses, too).

But once I started drinking tea, I was really happy I had a few random mugs along with our boring black ones and white ones. The random mugs just make it so much more fun to drink hot stuff. AND EVERYTHING MUST BE ABOUT FUN! But, really, that yellow cup with the cat in the bottom? Ha ha, I don’t think it’s sealed properly, so it sends up little, um, “fart” bubbles while I drink. Tell me that is NOT fun.Β

Anyway. We got a few more mugs for Christmas and I was just thinking about stupidly happy it makes me to use all our random mugs (especially since many of them are gifts that remind me of certain people). And how happy I will be to ditch the boring ones! Adios, “complimentary” mugs Steven received for buying the house!

  1. GIMME! I have a few fun mugs but I’d love more. I especially like them for my desk at work, which is currently devoid of a mug and why I have not had coffee all day. BOO!

  2. Rachel says:

I don’t think you have enough cat or Star Wars mugs…

We have these great “HIS” and “HERS” mugs my cousin got us for our wedding. Kev gets mad when I use the “HIS” one. πŸ™‚

    • kilax says:

There were actually more SW mugs on the shelf that I didn’t bring out.

Ha! I love that! I would use the HIS one all the time to be annoying πŸ™‚

  3. Gina says:

T-Rex mug is about to take a bite out of Hot Chocolate mug (but he can’t quit reach it)!!!

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha! Remind me to show you when you visit in May a book Xaarlin got me called “T-Rex Tries.” LOL. There is so much he can’t do!

  4. I love weird mugs! Whenever I travel I try to find a mug to bring home and I usually go for the strange-ish ones (like a pirate mug from the UP in Michigan hehe). It’s more fun that way!

  5. Kelly E says:

I have a very eclectic coffee mug collection πŸ™‚ Right now I only have about 4 of them in the kitchen cupboard πŸ™ The rest of them are packaged up in the basement. Had to make room for all of the baby bottles then all of the sippy cups πŸ˜‰
Most of my mugs are from trips with my Spoon. My love for coffee and traveling are truly represented by my collection.
LOVE your collection πŸ˜‰ Please promise me a chance to use the farting mug ;p

    • kilax says:

Aww man! When will you get to see all of them again?! πŸ™‚

Thanks! Ha! You can totally use the farting one πŸ™‚ What kind of tea should I make you? Hmm, can you spike tea? πŸ˜‰

      • Kelly E says:

I hope to see them when we unpack our next move πŸ˜‰
Yes, you absolutely can spike tea. A hot tottie made with tea and rum πŸ˜‰ YUM!

  6. Diane says:

I love mugs!!! Now I want to take a picture of my collection to send to you. Hee hee.
We drink a lot of tea and coffee in this house, and so many of my mugs have special meaning…whether I bought it in a special place, or it as a gift, or I inherited it…(I have a Field Museum mug that belonged to my friend Heather and it is covered in pictures of gemstones–one of my faves!) I think Paul actually owns two mugs and the rest we use are mine. Ha.
Owl mugs are my cat mugs. Actually, owl stuff is my “thing”–I wish people would buy me more owl stuff and less cat stuff. πŸ˜‰

    • kilax says:

Do! I would love to see it! πŸ™‚ And I am surprised people do not pick up on the owl thing! I have a few friends in to owls and I definitely remember to get them that stuff. There are so many cute owl things out there!!!

  7. Valerie says:

I love your mug collection πŸ™‚ Ours is mostly matchy matchy (recently, added some red Rachel Ray mugs from the Jewel promo they did). We do have a few nostalgic ones from over the years. I am on the hunt for a monogram mug…they NEVER make those with a V- how rude! πŸ™‚

  8. Amy says:

Lots of random mugs here because we drink lots of tea and coffee. But I confess most of our mugs were freebies or my husband got them at conferences for work…I do have a favorite mug, though, a red one that I got free for buying a certain brand of coffee. I even posted a pic of it on my blog once, I love it so much (but I can’t find the post to give you the link, sorry!).

    • kilax says:

Darn! Isn’t it annoying when you’ve posted something and can’t find it? We’ve just been blogging so long, huh? I am repeating blog posts more now than ever, lol!

  9. Losing Lindy says:

mine are completely mismatched. They are all about 20 years old…I know, I am old..but I did get a new one at Christmas, which is an interesting shape, but I am unable to get my mouth around it properly and it drips…

  10. we are super matchy matchy with everything BUT mugs. We have an awesome collection of randomness. And I love it. Nothing makes me happier than sipping my coffee from a mug thanking us for being best customers at Marriott (and all we got was this stinking mug? It was filled with candy) or from a race or public radio. Thanks for this post – it made me smile.

  11. kandi says:

Most of the mugs I drink out of are the same basic mug shape but are all different designs. My favorite mug is from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans because it reminds me of my trip there during spring break my senior year of college. I love you K mug!
I also have a basset blind mug that is 3D with the dog coming off the mug but it sits on my dresser.

  12. Michele says:

We have a wide selection of coffee mugs too!

I totally LOL’d when I read that the cat farts!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I see you have one with a “K”….that one is for ME if I come over!!!

What kind of tea do you drink? Just regular, or green tea? I’ve heard good things about green tea from Dr. Oz. Just curious!

    • kilax says:

Hee hee hee. If only it was SUPPOSED to fart!

Yes, come use that one! Or I can get an M.

Just regular fruity and spicy teas – I like madagascar vanilla and spicy cinnamon apple, sometimes I drink jasmine green tea. I like all the fruit flavored ones πŸ™‚

  13. Erin says:

We have some plain white ones that came with some dishes but I prefer to have an assortment! I love when I go to restaurants for brunch and they have all different mugs for everyone, too.

    • kilax says:

You should start working on the assortment! Just don’t tell anyone… then you will get a zillion of them. Although, that is really fun, too… if you have the room!

  14. I also have a collection of mugs but now I’ve stopped buying them because I don’t have the room for them. Whenever I drink coffee at home, I like to drink out of a different one. That way all of them are being used.

  15. Mica says:

Since doing a wedding registry, we have all white matching mugs, but I have a few cool ones that I use for tea and sometimes soup. (Because who wants a mug in any volume less than a cauldron!!!)

  16. martymankins says:

Nice set of mugs. I have a few mugs that are displayed. Of course, they have penguins on them. he he

The mugs I use for my coffee have scooters on them as well as a Mickey Mouse mug from over 12 years ago.
