Notes:

  • My dad has been doing some of his miles on a track at the local ice arena, and I met him there Monday morning. I don’t remember the last time I ran on an indoor track (really, this was polished concrete) and it was actually – I hate saying this – nice to wear shorts and a tank and not be trudging through the snow and ice! Ha ha. It felt so easy, like I could go forever (minus a weird inside pain on my right ankle). It makes me think maybe my low mileage lately has something to do with struggling with running on the snow, too… and not just that stupid cough. Ha.
  • ANYWAY, my dad set a new PDR (personal distance record) – 7 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally think he could do a half in the fall, if he wanted to. And there happens to be one in our hometown. Hmm, that I emailed him about and he NEVER responded!!! Ha ha ha. I am not going to force him. He should do what he wants. I am just super proud of him!
  • I am really happy I could do most of my runs with company this week! What a treat. I have been getting sick of the solo runs. And the outdoor ones were in challenging conditions, so the companionship really helps. Anne and I were running in super cold temps on Wednesday. I felt fine, except for frozen eyelashes. Erin and I battled the snow/slush/and crazy high winds on Saturday. That 8 miler left me feeling like I ran 20!
  • Saturday was my third opportunity to teach a blogger & friends class at Essential Fitness (Efit for short).  I’m not sure if I will ever stop feeling blessed that my friends drive from all over to take a 1-hour class (and grab a bite to eat, after) (in attendance (L to R in photo above) Lauren, Britt, Kelly, Amy, Erin, Sara, Valerie and not pictured: Judy, Bobbi and Chris). We did a challenging plyo box and kettlebell workout, with some boxing thrown in to truly get to the exhaustion point. Hmm. Maybe I should have planned a different workout for the day before a race! Ha ha. I can’t wait for the next class!
  • And the race! Erin and I both ran the Frozen Zucchini Snowshoe Adventure. You can see below that I didn’t make my goal for the race. Ha ha! I’ll tell you all about it later this week.

Plans from last week ( if I did it, X if I didn’t):

  •   Run with Dad on Monday! (Ha ha, at first, I wrote “Data” instead of “Dad.”)
  • √ Back to 6 days a week of working out.
  • √ An 8 or 10 mile long run.
  • √ Plan a super fun strength workout for the Saturday blogger & friends session.
  •   Cycling during the week.
  • Don’t fall during the snowshoe 5K. <— Buah ha ha, probably the least likely one I will meet.

I LOVE your header picture, obviously 🙂 I had such a blast with you and the rest of the ladies on Saturday and I am sore today…but definitely in a good way! And it sounds like you face planted during the snowshoe race?! Either way, you placed so I’m super impressed- seems like a tough workout!

    • kilax says:

I had a blast with you guys too! Thanks so much for coming! 🙂 I hope to set up another, for March! Maybe it will be warmer then?

No face plant! I landed on my hands 😉 And it was in the nice soft snow. Thanks! It is really tough to run in snowshoes… at least for me! 🙂

  2. Michelle says:

Congrats to your Dad, and to you for an amazing week of workouts! Glad to hear you are feeling back to normal!!

  3. Heather says:

A run with Data would be impressive, haha! But way to go for your Dad!

I can’t wait to read about your snowshoe race! And conditions this week really were tough. I thought I was the only one who got frozen lashes while running, I thought I was weird!

  4. Amy says:

Yay for snowshoe races! They have a bunch around here, but I have never been coordinated enough to want to actually race on those things! I take them with me on hikes and only take them out if I absolutely need to; I much prefer the ground and Yak Traks 🙂

    • kilax says:

Yeah, I don’t think I would make a habit of running in them! 🙂 That would be cool if you tried it one time though! 🙂

  5. Nice work there, toots (read like the first part of tootsie not what Miles just did). I think group running is the only way to make it through these conditions. I can’t imagine going 8 miles. I wanted to but completely wimped out.

BTW, do you wear Yaktrax or anything?

    • kilax says:

Ha ha. You can call me toots with Miles’ (um, Miles’s?!) meaning, too.

I just wear my trail shoes in the muck. I have the old yak trax (not the running ones) so they don’t help me at all. I should probably try the new kind!

  6. Kandi says:

I’m very impressed with your Dad’s 7 mile run! That’s awesome! My dad refuses to do a race longer than 5k (though I’m honestly just happy he runs at all). My mom wants to do a half marathon at some point (her PDR is 15k) but she wants me to pace her. I am looking forward to that but it doesn’t look like it will happen this year.

  7. Michele says:

    Your dad is so awesome!!!!

    Super duper proud of him!

Now that I have a running partner, I cannot think of running by myself anymore!! I do, but it is sooooo boring!!!!

  8. Erin says:

I haven’t run with people in so long, either! It was wonderful to run with you this weekend even if the conditions were less than desirable. And thanks for both the workout and for getting me out to the race. I’m so happy I did both 🙂

    • kilax says:

It was great to run with you, too! Those hard miles feel so much easier, with a friend! I hope you find some good buddies in the CARA training program!!!
