Random Thoughts Thursday 62

  • Today is the last day to enter Rachel‘s Running to Remember Raffle for the Alzheimer’s Association The Longest Day event. Check out those awesome prizes! Or! If you don’t want a chance for a prize, come donate on my page, here! Hee hee.
  • I’ve been reading RAGBRAI: America’s Favorite Bicycle Ride to get pumped (ha, like I need it) for Day 7 of RAGBRAI, and when Jen2 told me the author, Greg Borzo, would be speaking last Sunday, I was super excited I could attend (thank you to Andrew for taking me!)! And even more excited when I realized I had not one, but two books he’d written, to bring for him to sign. I really geek out over having authors sign my copy of their book… especially when it’s a book I love! Do you have any books signed by the author? Did you get them signed yourself, or were they a gift? Steven and I also went to see the author of Eating Animals speak, and he signed our copy.

  • I have several things on my racing calendar, but RAGBRAI is the next big “event” I plan to make any goal for. And that goal? Ha ha, it’s pretty simple. Just to get healthy between now and then, lose some weight, and enjoy the ride. Specifically, not suffer on the hills.
  • Ha, you guys already know about our “leftovers rule” and we have some other silly house rules, too. Like, you can’t watch a movie on TV if it’s a movie you own (just play the DVD – commercials are painful). Do you guys have any (joke) “house rules”?
  • The official Wisconsin Half Marathon photos are available. Now, I have to say, I completely ignored the official race photographers, since Steven and Tyler were there taking photos. And, um, seeing the official photos made me even more grateful that Steven and Tyler were there – there are not any (many?) good shots of me, or me and Kelly (not that I usually buy race photos anyway)! I can’t imagine how hard it is for the race photographers to capture everyone, let alone try to frame the shot, or get more than one person in the shot! Yay for personal race photographers!

  • I am not sure if I ever shared a photo of the lenses that Steven rented for the race. One of them was really intense! Steven had to go get a monopod to use to support the lense during the race. And so his shoulder didn’t fall off (I mean, he is our team pitcher, after all! Gotta take care of him!).

  • I am healing up nicely from my fall! The hardest part now?  Bending my knee and not picking this.

What, your scabs don’t talk to you, too?

  • Thursdays are typically the one weekday I don’t (usually) have an obligation to be anywhere (teaching, training someone, at my downtown office, etc.)… and I really enjoy that. Ha ha. Well, today is the last Thursday for that. Softball games start next Thursday and run for 10 weeks. Eek! Can’t wait to see how our team does!

Holy monster lens Batman! I think ESPN should hire Steven! Love that pic! Isn’t it funny how we spent like 10 years of our childhood with knees covered in crusty scabs and made nothing of it, but now it’s a different story? Ha! I’d so be picking that.

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha, yes! That is what I have been saying all week! How is it that I ran around like crazy as a kid, covered in scabs, not caring, and now that I have one, it hurts whenever I bend it and open it up?! LOL

  2. Rachel says:

My Wisconsin pictures are just awful! There is one decent one during the race, but the rest are baddddd. (Not that I usually have good ones! hah) I don’t get why they take a bunch AFTER you cross the finish line??? WHY???? I do not make good faces at that point. 😉

One house rule is that when you see puke or hear a cat puking and you yell “Not it!” then the other person has to clean it up. hahahah! Totally fair!

  3. Valerie says:

The photos from the “professional photographers” were just ok. Our photographers did a WAY better job in my opinion…I couldn’t even really see the shots because they had animated copyright and giant PROOF across my face…I get why they do that, but it is so much that it ruins my ability to even see the photo so I wouldn’t even consider ordering it!

    • kilax says:

Ha ha! Yeah! I was laughing at that! I couldn’t see much of me in the photos either, due to the letters all over the pics. Although, they did seem to capture my bloody knee pretty well. And that made me laugh.

  4. Anne says:

Oh, um, this is awkward… my official race photos all turned out really well too! But I was the ONLY runner the one photographer had to focus on at the mile 10 spot (and we were even chatting), and I was one of only a couple at the finish line so just another advantage of being slower than most of the pack 🙂

  5. Lish says:

I shared my pics, I think the rest of y’all are required to as well. Mine were pretty bad, and the post finish race line guy can suck it!

You know you really want to pick that scab….do it, do it!!

    • kilax says:

Ha, I was going to try to send the link but apparently that doesn’t work. Search 3083. They aren’t awful, but I like the ones my husband took so much better.

AHHHHH! I so do. Should I just go for it?! 😉

  6. Xaarlin says:

I’m behind with everything, but I managed to read this post 🙂

Stevens photos look great and those lenses are so legit and badass.

I love getting to meet authors of books I have! I think the only one I have signed currently is Bart Yasso’s book.

I think it’s cool you have books about the cycling event you are doing- and even cooler you got to meet the author 🙂

    And yes. Pick it!!!

    • kilax says:

I so wish I could meet Bart! Maybe in the future! 🙂 He seems cool.

Ahh! Don’t tell me that! I will listen to you!

  7. Kelly E says:

Gosh!! I’m so in love with that pic of us

  8. Erin says:

Having a personal race photographer is the best, really 🙂 I wonder if I can get Jason to rent a giant lens for Cleveland…

I would have to wear pants just so I didn’t pick at the scab!

  9. Losing Lindy says:

I say put some Neosporin on that scab, and cover it with a bandage, it should soften and not be such a bother

  10. Heather says:

It’s you! This has nothing to do with your post and everything to do with you linking to your NYC pic post, which led me to your NYC recap. I had obviously read it before since I stalked your recaps when I first found your blog, so this is going to sound funny, but IT’S YOU! You’re where I got my hill mantra from!

I hate hills. But I’ve been making myself do a lot of them and not just walk them because they’re good for me. I tell myself “I’m not running out of steam, I’m running up a hill.” I knew I had it read it on a blog but could not for the life of me remember where! So I need to say – THANK YOU! That has gotten me up so many bleeping hills.

  11. Melissa says:

LOL at the scab picture–I have a horrible temptation to pick those too :-/

Also, I’m a huge sucker for buying books if I can get them signed by the author and that’s almost always the ONLY reason I will buy an actual book lately! (Usually I just borrow them from the library or download on my Kindle)

  12. I’ve never bought any of my race photos because I don’t like them. There’s been some OK ones but nothing worth buying.

That photo of you and Kelly look amazing!

  13. martymankins says:

Steven has a nice camera and lens. A monopod is a great thing to have for taking quick but steady photos.

  14. Michele says:

It’s so awesome Steven takes good pics! Every race I’ve been in my hubby takes much better pics than the official photographers…and they are much more “appealing” to say the least!!
