Notes:

  • I’m happy I had Friday off to get some workouts in before a super packed weekend. Typically, I would wake up early to exercise before a day of weekend activities, but I just wasn’t feeling it. It’s probably good for me to get a normal night’s amount of sleep, every once in awhile, instead of trying to jam everything in! I’ve really felt like I’ve been burning the candle at both ends lately, so I think this will help.
  • We all know I prefer the cold of winter for running, but I found another thing I like to do outdoors in the heat (besides bike) – play softball! I think it was in the high 80s on Thursday, but we had a breeze, and it felt great to be outside, practicing. Minus the dirt blowing in to my eyes. I will probably retract this statement when it’s in the 90s with no breeze.
  • I had a really fun bike ride with Alyssa Friday night! Riding with someone else made the (small amount of, ha ha) steep hills on the trail and 17mph winds feel like no big deal! And I was super impressed to watch Alyssa tackle a flat like a pro. I totally helped… by taking photos. And giving commentary like, “I think you are supposed to insert some random tip when you change a flat?”

Glad you are getting in some good rest – it’s important (and easy to forget just HOW important).

I’m getting excited for softball games!!

  2. Kiersten says:

I am still in awe of people who can change flats. I’ve been riding for more than 10 years and still can’t do it on my road bike to save my life.

    • kilax says:

What’s up with that? What happens when you try?

      • Kiersten says:

I don’t know why it’s so hard! After breaking a couple tools, I can now get the tire off the rim, and get the new tube in, but I just can’t then get the stupid thing back on the rim. I went to a Girls and Gears event a few weeks ago and they had a tire changing competition. These ladies were amazing, they changed those flats in like 2 minutes,

The bike-changing comment is a timely one – I had my first solo change today! I think it was a success (ugh).
Sounds like a good week! Glad that you are enjoying some time biking these days!

    • kilax says:

      Aww, good for you! 🙂

Yes! And I already have another ride set up for this week and signed up for a ride on the 1st (62 or 75 miles… should be fun!). 🙂

  4. Bari says:

I learned how to change a flat this winter in my basement but I still don’t think I could do it by myself if I had to. My hands just aren’t strong enough.

Jealous of your running locales. When my dad had surgery at NW last fall, I did a beautiful 10 mile run up and down the lake trail while he was under and the miles literally flew by.

    • kilax says:

Did you have a hard time getting the tire off?

It’s so nice that the trail is right by NW! What are the trails like by you?

      • Bari says:

I couldn’t get the tire off or the new one back on without help. I really need AAA for biking 😉

Our trail system is very nice. Kent Trail runs right through my neighborhood and I’ve done 20 milers on it. It’s flat, paved, and free of traffic other than street crossings. All the streets to cross make it tough for biking though.

  5. Alyssa says:

It was so good to ride with you. And your moral support and tips were invaluable! I was really glad someone was with me because I didn’t even think about freaking out!

    • kilax says:

I think I would feel better having someone there for moral support, too 🙂 We must ride again, soon! 🙂

  6. Erin says:

Oooh, I want to get out on my bike soon. She needs a bath and a tune-up first, though.

    • kilax says:

Do eeeeeet! It’s cycling season! Are you doing any of the Chicago rides this year?

      • Erin says:

Bike the Drive is next weekend but I don’t have time to get my bike ready for that. I haven’t looked into other events yet, though.
