Is your [insert holiday of choice] showing?

I got out all of my holiday-ish clothes on November 30th… and have hardly worn any.

I have boxes and boxes of holiday decorations… still full in our garage.

I have a room full of gifts… that are not wrapped. At all.

Blurred out! No peeking!

I’ve been burning a Christmassy candle… but I haven’t made any cookies.

Yeah, as predicted, my focus was elsewhere for a huge chunk of this holiday season. And we don’t typically get a real Christmas tree unless we are hosting Christmas (we aren’t this year), so our house just doesn’t have that “Christmas” feel. Our Christmas isn’t “showing”!

Ha ha, but that’s okay. Because I am feeling it. I’ve already had a few enjoyable celebrations and gift exchanges with friends, and am looking forward to finishing gift shopping (mostly so I can stop thinking about it), and seeing our families in the upcoming weeks!

Is your holiday spirit “showing” this year? Or are you keeping it under wraps, like me?

Mine is showing! 🙂 I’ve decorated the house a bit, and have been wearing my Christmasy apparel, and have had a couple Christmas parties that got me in the spirit! 🙂 Doesn’t truly feel like Christmas until I’m home with my family though (and until there is snow on the ground)!!

I can’t wait to see your house!!!!! 🙂

And I hope we have a bit of snow for Christmas. But that it doesn’t make travel hard for us on 12/24 😉

  2. We didn’t put our tree up this year either (my mother-in-law would die if she heard that.) We aren’t hosting anyone this year and would rather spend the put up/take down time on other stuff…like the nursery lol! LOVE that filthy animal tshirt…I remember you telling me about it last year! Hilarious!

I feel like mine is “showing”—as I reflect back over the past few weeks I think I’ve done a good job balancing celebrations, decorating, gift shopping/wrapping, etc. But the weird part is that I have not really felt frantic or stressed or “rushed” AT ALL which is strangely unsettling! I don’t even know if that makes sense, but I feel like I have just been very on top of my to-do list this year and it feels weird not to be running around doing all sorts of crazy stuff at the last minute. Yeah, I have a couple more things to take care of but I figure they’ll get done sometime over the next week–ha! BTW, I love the “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal” shirt!

Ha ha, you know, that doesn’t sound too odd to me – most people expect this time of year to be frantic, and to have it not be would feel out of the ordinary! That is great you are so on top of things!!! We were not, with decorations, but shopping is almost done and hopefully we will wrap this weekend. I suck so bad at it!

Thanks! That is from amazon! 😀

I am not feeling the holidays at all this year, I have never been a big holiday person really. We do have a tree up this year though, which is thanks to my hubby lol but i still have yet to get one gift.

Nothing wrong with feeling that way! And the way this year has been (with stuff I haven’t mentioned here) I have felt a bit that way.

I’m e-mailing you a picture of the cat toy wreath I made, which is handing on our door! Hubby got the decorations finished this week so it looks festive at our place.

  6. I’m drinking candy cane tea, does that count? Other than that, this year is even harder than last year. It’s our first Christmas without my mom, and everyone is just super… confused.

  7. Amy says:

Oh yes, got the tree up, cards mailed, the stockings are hung, boxes of cookies in the freezer and gifts bought and wrapped! By the time the actual day comes around I’ll need a vacation…

If you count a live pine tree centerpiece, then I guess my holiday is showing 🙂 I usually get a trader joes wreath and put our decorations on it but they didn’t have any when we were there last week. So we ended up with a fancy centerpiece from the Christmas tree place near us 🙂 I’m not a fan of this time of year at all and it shows in the lack of effort I put into christmasy things. 🙂

    • kilax says:

Oh yeah! I remember that you do that! You must show me the fancy centerpiece!

And sorry that don’t care for the holidays! They’re almost over!

  9. We are in good shape – cards long since sent, 99% of shopping done (finish tonight), decorations all up (and boxes back in the basement), and we’ve planned our Christmas eve and Christmas day out … tonight we’re buying supplies for baking this weekend (about a week later than usual). No wrapping yet, but will start that this weekend as well! 🙂

    • kilax says:

Nice! You are in a really good spot! What are you baking? 🙂

      • We have a standard set of cookies we’ve made since the kids are little, and I asked if they wanted to change anything this year and they said ‘NO’! 🙂 We make peppermint pinwheels, twice-dipped mocha slices, grasshopper cookies (sort of like a chocolate-mint whoopee pie cookie), then some sugar cookies, sourdough and gingerbread that we make into shapes and decorate for fun 🙂

I am pretty scroogish this year

  11. kim says:

We decorated early actually, but that’s bc Leo “gets” Christmas now this year so I was motivated for him!

  12. Mica says:

My Christmas isn’t showing that much this year, though I did make stockings. Every year, I get all amped up and decide I’m going to do every craft in “Martha Stewart Living” and do approximately none of them. Oh well! I have been listening to Christmas music and “fireplace” noise at work though, so that’s pretty festive!

  13. Pam says:

Mine is showing… NOW. After the fact. In my line of work, you can’t enjoy the weeks leading up to it. The job stress just sucks all the spirit right out of you! When I locked the door to my office on Christmas Eve I was FINALLY able to start enjoying it. We had an amazing Christmas Eve and Day with our families, and now on the 27th of December I’m in full Christmas Spirit swing, and everyone else is taking their trees down. haha I didn’t even get mine up until the 19th, so it’s staying up a while!
