Sunwarrior: My protein powder of choice (sponsored post)

By , February 17, 2015 6:23 am

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine. I received ten Sunwarrior products to try (including a shaker bottle). This post contains UTM links but my only compensation was the ten products.

Hey! How can the word “choice” and phrase “sponsored post” be in the same title? Because I have been using Sunwarrior protein powder since a friend introduced me to the brand in March of 2011! At the time, I had tried several vegan protein powders and didn’t care for any of them. I kind of had my doubts when she made me a smoothie with Sunwarrior in it, but lo and behold, it had a good flavor and blended well!

Steven and I have been using Sunwarrior ever since, and we always buy the Classic Protein Powder in vanilla. I’ve been using it a lot lately. I’m working on toning up a bit, and one thing I’ve done is replace one carb-y snack a day with a protein shake.

Working at it! A ways to go!

In fact, I was actually drinking a smoothie with Sunwarrior protein powder in it when I got the email about reviewing Sunwarrior products! Ha ha!

Yeah, I don’t typically do product reviews (see here), but I wanted to try some of the other protein powder flavors, without making a huge investment in a big bag of it just to discover I didn’t care for it! Of course, this was before I saw that the sample pack I received is available for purchase on their website, too (along with a few other sample packs)! <— Good to keep in mind if you want to check it out.

I’m not sure why I hadn’t heard of Sunwarrior before my friend introduced it to me four years ago. Maybe because they were a bit overshadowed by another vegan protein powder company whose products I did not like and will remain nameless? Ha ha.

Sunwarrior has exactly what I want – vegan, plant-based protein powders THAT TASTE GOOD. But they have a lot of other credentials too – raw, gluten free, non-GMO, and their products are (from here) “clean and completely free of solvents, radiation, artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, artificial colors, soy, yeast, wheat, or added sugars.”

I didn’t realize this until I got my sample packet (see below), but they have a lot more products than I knew about (more than just protein powder!).  Entire lines focused on recovery, endurance, and immunity.

I was mostly in it for the protein powders (CHOCOLATE!!!) but it was a treat to try the other products, as well. My full review is in the images below, but my overall conclusion is that I definitely enjoyed the chocolate protein powder and will be buying some. The other stuff was decent, but I can’t see myself using it on a regular basis.

I enjoyed the taste of the Warrior Blend protein powders, but not as much as the Classic, hence, less stars, and the “maybe.”

Supplements aren’t my thing, so I don’t see myself buying any of these. If I were though, I would definitely pick peppermint Ormus over the natural one. And NO, no way to the Liquid Light. I almost threw that back up.

  1. First can I just say look at those arms!! you are looking great. Second I’ll give the shakes a try. I have two sachets of other products sitting waiting to be tried forever but I’m too afraid to. Do they sell the smaller damples in any stores or just online?

      Thanks! 🙂

Ha ha! That happened to me with Vega. And then I did try and ICK! I haven’t seen these smaller samples in stores, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist!

I’m in the market for protein help because I also want to build muscle but tone up what I’ve got as well. I tried a different product and it just tasted funky.

Can we use this post as a PSA to all bloggers about how a sponsored post SHOULD be done?

I’m glad you found that you liked the chocolate too! My fave protein powder has a cookies & cream flavor and I have to keep myself from just drinking it for a treat. hahah!

    • kilax says:

      Aww, thanks 🙂

That sounds awesome! Do you just mix it with milk or water? That is why I was surprised with the chocolate one – I didn’t have to doctor it up in a smoothie!

  4. Melissa says:

I will seriously have to check this out. I like the “brand that shall remain nameless” so I would love to do a comparison for myself 🙂

I love my chocolate protein powder in smoothies—especially with frozen cherries or strawberries. Seriously tastes like a milkshake! (I use pretty much the same formula as you—almond milk, frozen banana, protein powder, frozen fruit)

    • kilax says:

And I would love to hear what you think! I wonder if I need to give them another try? And I wonder how the amount of protein compares!

I am seriously thinking I will get some of the chocolate so I can do that!

I’ve never heard of Sunwarrior! I’ll check them out next time I buy. I’ve got two tubs of other brands of vegan protein powders to use up first.

Haven’t heard of this brand before…I’ll have to check it out. I am about to do my very first product review-and I’m not much of a product person myself. I saw another blogger wrote your format was the right way to go….I may bug you for tips! :-0

    • kilax says:

Oh neat, what are you reviewing? #1 tip – be genuine! People want to know what you really think!

      • Michelle says:

One of my friends from the Air Force sells those “It works” wraps and supplements. I’ve always been skeptical, but told her I’d write an honest review for her! Thanks for the tip!!

  7. Thanks for the review! I completely trust your opinion and am glad to hear what you thought of these. I tried hemp protein powder for a while in my smoothies but just did not like the texture or flavor. It’s nice to have another option to try instead of, uh, the giant vegan company that also makes protein products. 🙂

    • kilax says:

      Thank you for the compliment!

I have not tried hemp protein powder, BUT, when I first tried this powder it was with a hemp milk shake! We have lots of options, don’t we? I wish they all came in little packets so we could try them without wasting money!

  8. Irina says:

I’ve heard so many great things about Sunwarrior! But have yet to try it. I steered away from protein powder a while ago, mostly unintentionally, but am willing to welcome it back 🙂
