Random Thoughts Thursday 73

  • Beyond Kelly being my training partner (read: close friend/unofficial therapist), she’s also my wreath supplier! She helped spruce up our front door last spring (top left), this winter (top center) and currently (bottom left). She also made a wreath for my paternal grandma (top right) and maternal grandma (bottom right). She is talented!!! It impresses me when people have a vision of how they want something to turn out, and make it all come together from separate elements, like with these wreaths (and like Steven and his welded art projects!). You can check out other wreath styles on her Etsy and Facebook pages.

  • National Running Day seems to always be on a Wednesday, which is typically the most difficult day of the week for me to workout at all, due to my commuting schedule. So no run for me. But! I did do something kind of running related – went to a free skin cancer screening. I don’t wear sunscreen when I run, and wanted a dermatologist to look over my skin. He said everything looks okay, and that I should get checked again in one to two years. He also gave me a recommendation for a sunscreen that might let my pores breath when I run (that’s why I don’t wear it).
  • This year, my dad, brother-in-law and I ordered the RAGBRAI jerseys in advance and they arrived this week! Here’s my snis modeling mine (she ordered them all, hence it being at her house). I love the design! And my sister said one of her husband’s sisters is joining us on the Thursday ride – we need to get her a jersey, too! This is one event where it’s not lame to wear the shirt while you’re doing it!

  1. Good on you for going to the dermatologist!! I love the wreaths…my favorite is the top middle one. I didn’t run yesterday either but I did use all the discount codes for the day to sign up for two races, whoopsie ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Anne says:

What’s the sunscreen that was recommended? I always have to wear it during the summer but would like something a little more breathable so I’m curious!

That jersey is really cute! So are all the wreathes! Will Kelly ship to the west coast??

    • kilax says:

It’s called CeraVe. I hope it works! I may pick up a bottle.

I think she ships all over the US – I know she’s shipped to the east coast and TX! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Karen says:

The wreaths are super cute, I love the red white and blue one especially ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Awesome jersey!!

  4. Good for you for getting the skin cancer screening done! I am thrilled to hear that you were given a clean bill of health. Speaking of which – have you gotten Data’s bloodwork results back yet?

Love the rainbow of colors on the new Nike shirts!

    • kilax says:

Thanks for asking about Data! Everything looked good for him – he is still in the “gray” zone (giggle, gray cat in the gray zone) for thyroid issues, but he’s been there for a few years and hasn’t moved so he is okay ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so excited to have more! I seriously think I will be wearing them on every summer run!

  5. Lesley says:

I get annual skin exams because I’m pasty white. I also didn’t run yesterday because Tuesdays are my days to run. Wednesdays are for PT or visits to my chiro.

  6. Sara says:

That’s really good you saw the dermatologist…I’ve been meaning to go for a long time. I’d love to hear your review on the sunscreen.

  7. Marcia says:

Very cute wreaths! Yay for your skin looking good. I’m glad you had it checked. Love the cycle jersey. I found a Champion tank identical to those Nike ones and scooped them up. I swear they must be made at the same factory cuz they run big and are long too. Love how airy light they are!

  8. Kiersten says:

Let me know if the sunscreen works (and what kind it is). This morning I tried a new type on my run, but I hated it! Despite the fact that the package said sheer and breathable, it felt like a layer of vaseline on my face.

    • kilax says:

Yuck! That is a horrible feeling! I picked up a bottle of CeraVe (his rec). I will mention if I ever try it on a run. I wore it at a ball game and pool this week and that went ok ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Pete B says:

Yes, let us know how that sunscreen works for you. I hate wearing sunscreen, but have to! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • kilax says:

Will do! It worked well at the ball game and pool this weekend. Haven’t worn it on a run yet (even though I ran every day I was away, ha ha).

  10. jan says:

Love those Ragbrai jerseys!! Gotta embrace the farmland right? ๐Ÿ™‚ The wreaths are cool too. I lack crafting skills so I’m always so impressed when others have them.

  11. Mica says:

Good call on the skin cancer screening! I was just reading about that in Runner’s World (or maybe in Running Times, I can’t remember). I wear some one my face + a hat, but not on my arms, eek! What kind of sunscreen did the derm recommend?

Kelly is so good at wreath-making! I’d be terrible at making those gathered ones so neat and pretty. I’m the worst at that kind of thing (like putting tissue paper in gift bags!).

    • kilax says:

He recommended CeraVe. That is good you are at least wearing it on your face!!!

Yeah, I can’t make things like that look neat, either!!! And that is why I pay someone else to, ha ๐Ÿ™‚
