Notes:

  • Ugh, what a challenging week. I commuted to the city Wednesday-Saturday, which took away a lot of my training time. I was really looking forward to doing a long run on Sunday with my dad (who was visiting), but we got 17 inches of snow where I live, and then the temperature dropped in to the teens – and I didn’t want to make my dad ride his bike in that! So, no long run this week (I will do it tomorrow). And what a bummer I missed out on that time with my dad. Maybe when I see him again in January it will be nice enough out for him to ride his bike… ha ha, wishful thinking!
  • I was surprised to run two easy 5 milers this week, at faster than my average pace for my 10K PR (51:00). Maybe I’ll run a 10K on Thanksgiving Day! Are you doing a Thanksgiving Day race?

Yeah the weather sure dumped on us for today didn’t it! I ended up treadmilling it and that sucked! But, done. Hopefully by tomorrow the roads and trails will be a little bit better so there can be some nice runs on them! At least it’s supposed to be a teeny bit warmer this week.

Nice 5 milers, you definitely need to find a 10k! I’m doing the Schaumburg Turkey Trot half saturday which is my friend’s first half (redux since the indy women’s half got cancelled), and was thinking of sneaking an 8k or 5k in on Thanksgiving.

Good for you for getting it done on the treadmill! We packed our treadmill up, so that won’t be an option for me for a few months! I may have to go to the Libertyville Sports Complex on those really dicey days.

That is great you and your friend rescheduled to a new half!!! Have fun at all your races! 🙂

  2. Rachel says:

You could come up and do the thanksgiving 10k here!!! 😉

I tried to do a long run this morning and gave up. It was glare ice all over and I fell 2 miles in. Nope.

    • kilax says:

It is flat? I was thinking about the Kenosha one that runs along the WIHM path – but I am getting pushback on going so far away Thanksgiving morning 😉

      Oh man! Are you okay?!

  3. Lesley says:

The weather moved in with cold cold weather this weekend, and I had to put air in my tires yesterday morning. So commences the pattern of warming up, then getting cold again. It’s supposed to t-storm here on Thanksgiving.

  4. Chaitali says:

Yuck on the 17 inches of snow! We haven’t had any snow yet but did wake up to sub-freezing temps this morning 🙁 We’re heading to Ohio later this week and I know they got some snow but I don’t know if it will still be there when we get there.

  5. Pete B says:

Have you gotten any snowshoeing in? The snow in the city is not very deep and is too icy for cross country skiing.

    • kilax says:

Not yet! I am not sure I will have the daylight hours to do it… although I could have this am but made up part of that long run instead. Priorities, sigh.

  6. Those weather conditions have to be rough for runners. “Ok long run tomorrow…oh wait, 10ft of snow” lol. No run on thanksgiving but we are playing some football Wed night then have a nice hike on Friday to burn off all the turkey!!

    • kilax says:

Ha ha, yeah, it really can mess with your plans – especially if you didn’t believe the forecast, like me. They predicted 6-12″ and we got WAY more. Ha!

      Have a great Thanksgiving!

  7. You are tearing it up with your speedwork! If you can find a 10K on Thanksgiving Day, I say go for it. You’d crush your PR!

I’m heading to Pittsburgh tonight for Thanksgiving and will be doing one of those double-race challenges on Thanksgiving Day (a 5K and a 5-Miler). Thankfully the weather is going to be very warm out there – on Thursday it’s supposed to get up into the 60s! Can you imagine!?!?!?

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I know of one – just gotta see if I feel like doing it 🙂

Oh cool! That will be fun! In the 60s? I can imagine 50s 🙂 I think that is what it’s supposed to be here for Thanksgiving? Silly weather!!!

  8. Karen says:

It seems to early in the year to be talking snow…
The rest days are probably good, even though not as fun. You earned them you…you stay in beast mode a lot:)

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I was thinking that about the rest day – why not do it when I have my family in town and just chill out for once?! LOL. I am sure my body is happy I took two last week!
