Too slow

Quick witted, I am not.

I was running loops in a preserve recently and passed a guy who was walking. We said hello.

Eventually, I passed him again and he said something to me. I couldn’t hear him and asked him to repeat himself.

“I saw your twin out here, too!”

Quick, Kim, think! What is he talking about?

Oh! He must have seen someone who looks like me, wearing shorts and a tank, and a hydration pack.

“I’ll have to look for her!”

And I run on. A few seconds pass and it hits me – duh, he was referring to seeing me the first time. To me lapping him. He was making a joke.

Gawd, I am so slow to get some jokes. Ugh.

So I had a mile or so to work on a response when I saw him the next time. “We must be triplets!”

Of course, I never saw him again. Sigh.

And unfortunately, I can’t blame this on runner brain. I am like this most of the time. Sigh, again.

The deer returned yesterday and Steven took real photos of them! Awwwwwww.

I need to come up with a bird (also: squirrel, duck, deer, and so on) seed budget. They clean me out pretty fast!

  1. You are not alone. I spend most of my life feeling like a dope 🙂 I can’t believe all the animals you see , my feeder will stay full for around 2 weeks.

My parents have bird seed year round. They got quite a snow storm in that area this past weekend so the birds know where they can find food.

We have lots of bird feeders out, but they haven’t been filled in a while… I am afraid of what our squirrels will do if they have access to food again. They’ve been leaving us alone for the most part. :/ Stupid squirrels!

    • kilax says:

Oh yeah :-/ Maybe you should fill one of the feeders with glass for them?

(that comment will sound horrible to anyone who doesn’t know the mischief your squirrels have been up to!)

I feel like I have an especially hard time processing things and responding appropriately when I am running. I like to listen to the NPR news quiz show Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me when I am running and I think I get about half as many answers correct when I am running compared to when I am not. I guess I can’t do too many things at once…… running and not falling takes up all my brain power

    • kilax says:

Oh funny! I used to listen to that when I was running too, but never when I wasn’t. I should try that and see if I am slower when running.

  5. Hahaha my grandma could empathize with you on the seed budget front. I think every woodland creature in the area knows her house is the place to go for bird seed. The squirrels in her yard are legitimately obese from how much bird seed they eat haha

    • kilax says:

Sounds like my grandma! It’s so fun to go to her place and see everything – including the super chunky squirrels!

I’ve been trying to get bird pics for you but I need Steven to take them with his nice camera 😉

Love the deer picture! So cool you have all those animal visitors!

I am really slow to catch onto jokes, too. I think most of the time I am so clueless I don’t even realize I’ve missed anything. Must be kind of funny, actually, now that I think of it…for other people! 😉

  7. Mica says:

I would have thought that too! If you see him again, are you going to make the triplet joke?

Maybe you have all these critters because they know you are such a softie for animals. My MIL gets so annoyed with deer and rolls her eyes at them every time she sees them because they eat her plants.

    • kilax says:

I hope so! I totally will!

Maybe that is why! Ha, a few people were like “deer are annoying cause…” and yeah… I rolled my eyes at them. I love seeing the animals. I do want them to stay out of the attic, though 🙂
