Notes:

  • Blah, it’s that buggy time of year. For a few weeks, I’ve had bugs flying around my head during parts of my run. ANNOYING! Leave me alone!
  • I had my hottest run of the year (and hotter than any run last year) on Friday- 89°F! I actually didn’t feel horrible, which is great. (My stomach was another story – oops, too many Doritos.)
  • I had one of those awesome long runs this week where you want to keep going! I planned an out and back and was supposed to turn at 8 but felt so good I went to 8.5. Ha, I know, an extra mile isn’t that much, but it was encouraging to feel so good when it was really humid and gross out. I am not training for anything right now that requires that kind of mileage – I enjoy running it, so I do. And it helps with the Doritos mentioned above. And my sanity.
  • I was disappointed in the lack of (some) biker’s courtesy on the trails on Saturday. It’s so easy to warn someone you are coming up on their left. Do it. And don’t ride down the middle of the path and brush by them. Sigh.

Nice week of workouts! Glad you felt good during your hottest run of the last 2 years. I ran on Saturday and it was rough for me in the heat despite not caring about pace. Boo to DB cyclists like that- it’s so dangerous to brush by people like that- had you stepped over or stretched out your arms that guy would have crashed. Smh

Why do you think it was rough on Saturday? No shade? No acclimated yet? I slowed down my pace too, and was surprised it wasn’t a lot slower.

I totally get that cyclists want to zip around on the trails, but it’s just so dangerous to ride like that :-/ I sometimes feel like they want to freak the runners out!

Your Saturday run sounds like it was amazing! I love runs like that when everything seems to click 🙂

Me too! The last two weekend long runs have been like this. The time has just flown by as I’ve gone down and back up the path. It surprises me, because I usually don’t care for an out and back route like that! But something has just been clicking!

I saw two bike accidents last week on the LFT and one more this weekend. All involved pedestrians, but the bicyclists got the worse of it because they swerved and fell to avoid impact. I know everyone is in a hurry, but if there are pedestrians/runners present they should try to ride just a little more slowly and at a safe enough distance just in case someone unexpectedly steps in their path. Hoping someday that they will eventually have a separate bike lane on the LFT.

    • kilax says:

I actually saw an article last week about how they are planning a separate bike lane for the LFT and apparently some of it is already open or about to be? If any trail needs it, it’s LFT! In my 17 mile run, I saw 33 cyclists, 21 runners and 7 walkers. If I did that run on LFT… it would probably be 10 times that! It would be so fun to ride my bike on there, but… not this time of year, and not without the bike lane. Too many people!

That is good you are holding up in the heat! I was reminded last week, I really need to get my eating under control, my tummy hurt. I feel so much heavier in the heat, I need to get a few pounds off, it’ll help! Now, if I can stay on track…
I am covered in mosquito bites.
Are you throwing the medicine balls against the little trampoline looking thing ever? I saw someone doing that today and thought I need to get over the fear of it hitting me and just do it.

    • kilax says:

I know some people have an easier time losing weight in the summer but I don’t! And I think it would totally make me handle the heat better, like you’re saying!

In the photo on the top right they are running in place and hitting medicine balls against their partner’s medicine ball 🙂 We toss them a lot, but always with a partner.
