More for me, then

Sigh. I was trying to tell a group of people at work about a delicious watermelon mojito I had yesterday, because alcohol is something this group talks about often, and for once, I had something to share (I rarely drink!).

But, I didn’t get to describe the drink, at all. They immediately asked where it was from, and when I said the name of the restaurant and they didn’t know it, and I said it was “up north,” the conversation turned in to “Up north?! Don’t you live in Wisconsin?!” And “that’s so far,” and so on.

So, basically… don’t share anything about the area you live in cause it’s WAY TOO FAR, OMG. Blah.

My boss did chime in to say it doesn’t take long to get to my house. Ha.

The interesting thing about the restaurant where I got this drink is that our neighbor owns it! And he was actually standing outside when we walked in. But, we haven’t been able to say hello in person in the neighborhood yet, and I thought it would be a bit dorky/weird to walk up to him and be all “I live across the street from you!” so I restrained myself (and luckily he wasn’t outside when I walked out because I was a little bit more obnoxious after having the drink).

I will make sure though, whenever I do talk to him, to ask what he was thinking to have a restaurant so far north, basically in Wisconsin. I mean, do the people out there actually pay to eat food? They don’t just hunt and gather it all from the forest?!

This whole post is hilarious! And even though I’m not usually a regular mojito fan, that drink looks delicious 🙂

And I promise I’m going to the post office THIS WEEK!!

Yum! You may have seen a picture of the delicious blackberry mojito that I had on my birthday on FB.

I think you could have walked up to your neighbor and said, “Hi, we’re neighbors, great mojito!” 🙂

    That drink looks very refreshing!

I get the awkward feeling about going up and talking to someone you know, but haven’t actually met yet…I probably would have done the same thing.

I can’t wait to try one – looks like it’ll be worth the drive allllll the way up there to (almost) Wisconsin! It looks like the restaurant is at least well-lit – I didn’t even realize they had electricity up by you! 🙂

This reminds me of my mom growing up just across the Ohio border in Michigan, in “the country,” and all the kids at school making fun of her for it. Obviously they still used soup cans tied together for a phone and churned their own butter up there.

Hmmmm can we get one of those when I ride my bike up to see you? It’s funny how conversations rabbit trail to other topics. I can’t believe something so revolutionary as a watermelon mojito is up north so far! Lol

      Yes! Let’s do it!

It’s annoying how I can’t talk to them about something around me without being harassed about where I live 😉 Ha ha ha ha ha.

Ha, oh man, Harrison and I always talked about how far from Chicago we thought your old place was! Not that we’d let it take over a conversation about your delicious drink. And I mean, who cares if your place is far from [some arbitrary point]? That’s why you moved there!

Next time we visit, let’s go visit your neighbor’s restaurant and drink those fancy pink drinks! I think I could get on-board with a watermelon mojito!

Lol, it what sense were you taking about it? About my commute or how lame it is to stay with us and try to do city things? I think what people don’t grasp is that I don’t prefer the city 😉 not saying you don’t, it just seems so shocking when I mention where I live that people have to comment on how it’s in the middle of nowhere – yes, just what I’ve wanted for years 🙂

I think you’d like it! Our next trip needs to be us there though!

  7. That looks so good! I made watermelon margaritas a few weeks ago, and they were amazing.

I hate to say it but I probably would have been one of the OMG you live so far. I am totes spoiled by my 5-minute commute.

    • kilax says:

Yum! I bet they were refreshing too!

Ha ha. The funny thing is, even people who live near the office have long-ish commutes to get in! Most of us have 1 minute commutes since we typically work from home. If that goes away, I’ll get a job that’s closer 🙂

Reading the post and the comments (and your replies), I was hoping to know more about this mojito (other than it needed more alcohol) and how you liked it (assuming you did with that big smile on your face). We have a mint plant at our house and I love to make mojitos, especially different flavored ones (blueberry and raspberry are house favorites, as well as traditional).

We have watermelons in season now. Guess I will need to make some watermelon mojitos here soon.

    • kilax says:

LOL! It seemed to have A LOT of alcohol in it – what I meant was that it tasted so good I could barely taste it. If you know what I mean?

I’d love your mojito recipe! Raspberries are my fave! Let me know how your watermelon ones turn out 😉
