The streak lives!

(again)

The two races I’ve been running each year since 2009 – the Frosty Footrace 5K and the Wisconsin Half Marathon – both decided to change their courses for 2017*. The Frosty course is a completely new location, and the Wisconsin course is in the same area, but tweaked. I am hoping the Frosty course won’t be as hilly, and that the Wisconsin course won’t have as many potholes. We shall see!

Frosty Footrace 5K Wisconsin Half Marathon
2009 27:53 1:57:47
2010 25:55 2:19:11
2011 25:00 2:05:21
2012 24:00 2:06:11
2013 23:27 1:51:15
2014 26:48 2:06:53
2015 22:58 2:06:16
2016 21:45 1:53:07

These are also the only two races I’ve done this year (I am signed up for one more race – a 5K in October)! It’s kind of nuts for me to be this far in to the year and to have only done two races. A few people have asked me if I am burned out on racing and running. I’m not, actually! I just don’t want to commit my time and money to doing races now, with all the house stuff we have going on. That’s it! Maybe my racing will ramp back up next year or in a few years… or around Thanksgiving when I get the racing bug. But I know I’ll be doing these two races for sure, next year – I already registered for the Wisconsin Half**!

*Thanks to Anne for the heads up re: the Frosty course changing!
**The past few years I’ve gotten a free entry to this race for getting ten people to use a $5 off code I had for the race. I am not doing that this year. It became too stressful because there were eventually so many codes out there that the people who’d normally use mine weren’t anymore.

It definitely makes sense that you weren’t able to race as much with all the house stuff going on for you this year!

  2. I really like the Wisconsin Half medal πŸ™‚ My racing has been on the lighter side this year too. I’m trying to save my money for some travel and further afield races. You did a great time this year!

    • kilax says:

Are you saving to come up for a WI race?! πŸ˜‰

      Thanks πŸ™‚

      • Possibly, I’m still obsessed with doing the Lincoln presidential half in Springfield IL. Waiting to see if I get sent to a work conference at the same time before I commit. Too far for you?

        • kilax says:

Ahh, I have a friend who does that race each year! I love the penny medal. Not too far for me but it usually conflicts with when I go to TX for Luca’s birthday, if I am remembering correctly. I hope you get to do it!!!

It would be nice if Frosty weren’t so darn hilly! The registration form is up on the park district website already if you want to sign up (since it will totally sell out, ha ha!).

I’ll probably do the Wisconsin 5k again. I really liked the course, and see that they’re including a tech tee for 5k participants starting this year (which is nice, since I never wear the non-tech shirts from races because they’re too heavy/bulky and only have unisex sizing).

    • kilax says:

It would be! I am going to ask them for a course map in Jan!

Thanks! I usually do register in advance πŸ™‚

It looked like a really neat course!!! And the tech tee is definitely a bonus! I wonder what the shirts and medals will be like this year – the website is revamped and I wonder if they are getting away from the cheese a bit?!

Wow, your times have sped up so much over the course of your streak, congratulations!

Do you have plans to run either of those races with people? Do you plan to run them for time or for fun this year?

    • kilax says:

Thanks! I plan to do the 5K for time, solo, and the HM for fun. I would be open to running it with people! πŸ™‚ But right now I don’t have plans to πŸ™‚

  5. Oh wow, crazy that Wisconsin is changing their course after all these years. But yeah, hopefully there will be less potholes. Bummer that you won’t be doing your Wisconsin discount code but it sounds like it was the right decision!

    • kilax says:

Yeah! Ninth year is the one for change, it seems? Kind of seems like they are revising the feel of the race, too!

Yeah, and they do a $5 off discount too, so there is plenty of spots for people to find it! And I can pay for my own entry πŸ˜‰

I like your table of finish times! That’s quite a streak and it seems like you did exceptionally well this year. Are you itching to run the 5k and see how you’ll do? Any PR plans?

  7. Joanna says:

Good for you doing the races every year!! I try to do the same two fall races every year but its hard because i have been pregnant in the fall twice now. I dont think i will get to my races this year. i want to but I am not sure yet.

  8. Karen says:

I am glad you are going to do the races! You have a very nice streak going. I am impressed with your speediness!

  9. I don’t blame you for not wanting to commit yourself to racing a lot this year – your house projects were enough to exhaust me, and I was just reading about them! Adding the extra stress of racing would’ve been tough, I’m sure. But I’m happy to hear you’re doing Wisconsin again next year! Always makes me happy to see people sign up for that race πŸ™‚

    • kilax says:

I figured I would have to cut back on working out and racing when we moved! I feel lucky it hasn’t been more, lol!!! πŸ™‚

Will it feel weird not to be involved with WI this year? Or might you still volunteer? πŸ™‚

That’s awesome. Love how you keep track of the details of the races (not to mention the lanyards for each race)
