Random Thoughts Thursday 115

  • It’s awesome the Cubs won the World Series! They’re not the team I follow, but them winning has made so many people happy, and that makes me happy! All that being said, I’m making sure I’m NOT working downtown the day of the celebration parade (if there is one), ha ha.
  • It’s totally fine not to be interested in following mainstream stuff like the World Series, and to say it’s not your thing. There are plenty of things lots of people like and get jazzed about that I have no interest in! But what’s not cool is being a complete sourpuss about it. Newsflash – you aren’t special if you are moody about a thing that a lot of people likeΒ when they are all excited about it. It just makes you, well, moody. And makes it seem like you can’t enjoy other people’s happiness and feel left out. Grow up!
  • We don’t have antenna (or cable) and couldn’t watch any games at home but got to see Game 4 because we were at a hotel, and part of Game 7 at Red Robin (and we listened on the radio at home after that). What a series! The last game was a real nail bitter!
  • We were at a hotel last Saturday because Steven surprised me with a night away on Lake Delavan in Wisconsin! It was so sweet he planned all that and surprised me, and recognized that we both needed a break. We had a great time!

  • Thanks for voting for Data in our veterinarian’s Halloween costume contest! He got second place, and will receive a $20 gift card to PetSmart! Should I use it to get him something fun, or more food for all the cats?

  • The election is making me feel so anxious I decided to vote by mail this year, because just thinking about making it to my voting office on Tuesday was stressing me out.
  • The last time I posted about the pond level, it was almost gone. It actually did completely go away in August/September. But we’ve had so much rain in October and November (5.50 inches in the last 30 days), it’s back, and in a big way!

The me is back…and so are some ducks!! Best get some bird feed with that $20 too πŸ˜€

  2. Kristina says:

So excited about the Cubs – and I don’t even follow baseball. We didn’t actually get *into* the Series until Game 6. We don’t have cable either, so we went out to watch most of the game. Came home and saw that it was tied in the ninth (what a game!).
As for the giftcard – can you get a “Thanksgiving feast” for the cats? I know that some dog food companies make a turkey, gravy, potatoes and peas ‘meal’. Which is probably inhaled within seconds, just like all the other dog food…

    • kilax says:

Going out to watch is fun, right? And man, that was nuts when they tied in the 8th. I said to Steven “this better not go in to a ton of extra innings!”

Ahh, I could! Although, Data is so picky, he won’t eat it! I am sure the outdoor cats will! πŸ™‚

  3. Xaarlin says:

Yay Cubbies Yay!! Thank god I don’t live near Wrigley. Lolz. I don’t get the being all “NIMBY” about mainstream events like that either. Just STFu and ignore it if it isn’t your thing. I grumble about Soldier Field being on and loud at times, but I chose to live near it and that’s why we have blackout shades. I think people want to draw attention to themselves and hijack the conversation so it can be about them (like the mommyjacking we spoke about earlier this week lol)

Get Dates some fancy food to eat- and share it with your outside kitties πŸ™‚

    • kilax says:

I can’t imagine living near there right now! Crazy! Yeah, exactly, just let people have their fun. And they probably do want the attention because they feel left out!

      I probably will πŸ™‚

  4. Anne says:

The Cubs probably won because of Zobrist:) There are SO many mainstream things that I’m not into – reality TV, most music made after 2005, football, etc. But everyone likes what they like, and I don’t really care what that is!

I’m glad you guys were able to get away for a much-needed break! I thought that was so sweet that Steven planned that trip for you! Awww!

I’m happy that it’s finally been raining again! Less happy that it keeps happening when I’m commuting to/from work (and ONLY then LOL!)

    • kilax says:

They did! Two WS championships in a row for him! πŸ™‚ And… exactly. Don’t hate, people, geesh!

I was really impressed that he did! Now he is having a really sh*tty week and I am trying to think of how I could help (when I am not occupied with how pissed I am about work).

Ha! There was a time like that for me earlier this year, where every time I commuted it rained! Blah!

  5. I’m over the moon about the Cubs winning last night. WHAT a game! What a series, even! So evenly matched, and to have things come down to the wire like the did last night – amazing. Being in Wrigleyville when it happened is something I’ll never, ever forget. As for the haters – look, if you can’t find it in your soul to be happy for people who haven’t experienced something like this for 108 YEARS, then you need to do some serious reevaluating of your life. There is absolutely no team in any level of sports that I hate more than Ohio State, but if they had a 108-year drought of winning a major championship, I would STILL at least be happy for them for overcoming that, even if I would prefer to see any other team win.

Does PetSmart sell ties?? Maybe you could get food and a tie for Data? The vet would be so pleased!

The worst part about the World Series being over is that probably after tomorrow (when the parade is! Don’t come downtown! Haha) the Cubs will start to fall off my Twitter feed and it will be all election crap instead. The World Series was such a nice reprieve from that for awhile. I sent in my vote-by-mail ballot earlier this week, so now we wait. I’m hoping to be as happy next Tuesday night as I was last night!

    • kilax says:

The last game was SO suspenseful! It did seem like a great series – I wish I could have watched more of it! Yeah, I really don’t get the attitude of not having interest in it, so you make fun of people caring about it. Like… just keep it to yourself? But, those people usually want to see everyone unhappy, cause they are too πŸ™‚

Ahh, I bet they DO sell ties. Great idea. Data could use a new tie πŸ™‚

Did you see the parade at all? I enjoyed seeing pics online. Now we shall stay off social media until… hmm, should we give it a week AFTER the election?! Ha!

  6. Shelley B says:

I love that your pond returned. πŸ™‚

Data says to buy cat fud (official spelling, courtesy of Gary Larson) for the other cats.

    • kilax says:

Me too! Still hard to drive the boat in it though – too many rando things floating around.

LOL! I could get 40 cans of wet food with that gift card!

  7. Amy says:

Yay, the pond is back! And congratulations to Data for nailing second place!

Glad you got to spend the weekend recharging your batteries…I’m also feeling stressed out about the election, and also voted absentee by mail several weeks ago…I think maybe the reason there was so much animo for the World Series this year is that it was something else for people to focus their attention and energy on besides the election. It was fun to see how excited all my FB friends from high school (went to HS in Geneva IL) were and how it drowned out the political posts – a nice breather!

    • kilax says:

Thank you! πŸ™‚ The vet sent him a very nice letter, which I immediately hung on the fridge, ha!

Wasn’t it a wonderful reprieve? And so fun to see your friends being excited about it on FB? I just loved it πŸ™‚

  8. Mica says:

Your weekend away looks so nice! I like that the mini golf course is right on the water.

I agree that being openly disdainful and dismissive of things like sports is annoying. That being said, I was basically that way until recently-ish, so I’m still trying to work on it!

    • kilax says:

It was nice! We had fun playing πŸ™‚

I try to make sure I don’t do that too. Or when someone is talking about something I don’t plan to ever see/do/whatever, I ask them about it instead of making my plans to never participate all that I will say.

  9. martymankins says:

Yay for Data winning second place.

I got excited for the Cubs and so glad they won. We watched Game 6 and Game 7 at home. Was right there in front of the TV watching that last out. Not my team (California Angels) but rooted for them.

No cable or antenna? Are you a cord cutter by choice or because they don’t have signal or cable lines run to your home?

    • kilax says:

It was fun to root for them, right? Even with them not being your team (mine either, like I said)!

Not by choice – no cable here, and if we got antenna, we’re at a mid point between the two major broadcast centers and aren’t sure what would work (because of signal, like you said). We may try it at some point though! Thank heavens we found a way to get internet!!!!!!!!!!!!! We stream πŸ™‚
