All gussied up

Yay! All the holiday decorations are up! It’s not a lot, but I’m going to document it here so I can look back in the future if I want to set it any of it up the same way.

Our Fraser Fir tree is eleven feet tall on its own, and a bit taller in the stand. It has 700 lights on it. WeΒ (expectedly) had to buy more lights and ornaments. I got the LED lights to try and those were a big NOPE – way too harsh of a white! We went back and bought conventional lights.

As kids, we’d spend Christmas Eve at my mom’s parent’s home, and they always had metal “NOEL” letters that we’d rearrange to say “EL NO” or “LEON” and see how long it took an adult to find it. We thought it was really funny. I was happy when my mom gifted me my own “NOEL” set one year!

We’ll see how long it takes for Data to knock these down. He is getting in to ALL the decorations. And I don’t mean he’s “in to them” metaphorically. He is physically getting in to them and messing them up and knocking them around (and eating them and throwing them up).

Steven said, “It looks like coffee = joy.” Ha!

And now… to put all those storage boxes back in the basement. Blah. Ha ha.

Your decorations look beautiful! And your front door gate already looks quite festive since the center decoration almost looks like a snowflake.

  2. Rachel says:

Coffee does = joy! At least for me! πŸ™‚

That tree is fab. I think you made the right choice going for a giant one.

Tell Data that Santa is watching! Naughty cat. πŸ™‚

  3. Chaitali says:

The decorations look great! Hopefully Data doesn’t cause too much havoc with them πŸ™‚

  4. Kandi says:

I love all your decorations! The huge tree is awesome but sadly I’m allergic so only fake trees for us.
I love your gate to your front door!

Thanks! πŸ™‚ There are a lot of benefits to fake trees!!! Do you do anything to recreate the “real” tree smell?

      Thank you πŸ™‚

LEON made me laugh so hard! We did the same things with these felt letter magnets on our refrigerator when we were kids. I had forgotten about that. Thanks for the memories! Now I kind of want to get some for my house so my kids can have the same (hilarious) experience.

    Looks gorgeous

  7. Karen says:

You are on a roll…everything looks great πŸ™‚ I like the all white lights on the tree.
My cats poke up everything too, last year I found fake pieces of tree everywhere lol I am not sure if kenny will put a tree up this year or not. I always vote no…bah humbug!
I am hearing Elton John in my head now…

    • kilax says:

      Thanks!

Ha ha, yep! I saw a piece of fake garland on the wall and from far away I thought it was a bug! Oh, Data!

You really don’t want a tree up?! The holidays not your thing?

  8. I am OBSESSED with garland you have on your stairs. That looks SO GOOD. It must be magical in your living room with the main lights off and just the Christmas tree and garland lights on!

    • kilax says:

Thank you very much! I was so excited about putting it up! Being able to turn all these lights on when it’s dark (and when it’s been so dreary during the day lately) has been a magical treat! πŸ™‚

So beautiful!! I love how your stocking holders fit perfectly between the stones!!

    • kilax says:

Thank you! Funny how that worked out, right? I think it looks kind of goofy, but not sure a mantel would look quite right, either!

  10. Amy says:

    Lovely!

If coffee = joy (which is true) then so does going to the downstairs bathroom. πŸ˜‰

  11. Alice says:

wow, everything looks amazing! We have so much house available to decorate this year, but so few decorations since I’ve always been in a small space before. Where is the garland on your banister and railing from? I need to get some like that!

    • kilax says:

Thank you! Do you think you will start to collect more? My snister was telling me how she got a ton of great stuff on sale AFTER xmas last year!

The garland is from Menard’s – do you have those? It’s like Home Depot or Lowe’s – it’s a big box hardware/etc store πŸ™‚

  12. Mica says:

Wow, the house looks AMAZING! You two really went all out. I actually scrolled through this post before (when I didn’t have time to comment) and got really confused by the LEON. I was like “Well, Kim does speak Spanish…”

I like that you get a Frasier fir tree. That’s my favorite!

    • kilax says:

      Thank you!

      Ha! ha ha!

I think it’s becoming my favorite, too! We love the big sturdy branches and shorter needles. And the great smell πŸ™‚

  13. Michelle says:

Oh my goodness, your decorations (and home) are beautiful! I love your front door!
