Random Thoughts Thursday 131

  • I haven’t posted a William picture in a long time! Aww, I miss my sweet little nephew.

  • My mom sent me home from my early April trip with an Easter basket! How nice! I have fond memories of searching for baskets (and eggs) as a kid.

  • When I was in my hometown, my dad and I stopped by his mom’s as a surprise. She didn’t even know I was in town. Or so I thought. When we greeted her, she told me Facebook told her I’d be in town this weekend. Yeah, that’s the last time I say “yes” to a public event on Facebook (that was how she knew – it notified her in the morning I was going to a nearby race the next day). Of course, my grandmother can know where I am, but I don’t like to publicly advertise when I’m traveling.
  • I’ve been having some issues with sensitivity to light lately. I am monitoring it and will see the eye doc if I need to. I’ve made it this far without corrective lenses… I hope my eyes aren’t going to sh*t!
  • I am currently listening to this song on repeat. Give it a listen. I heard it on an episode of Girls, which means I can now say I actually got something out of watching that show.

  • Did Garmin users see the new “privacy zones” setting options? Privacy zones hide your start and end points on publicly shared workouts. You can see the exact route, but other viewers can’t. This is something I’ve thought Garmin should have for awhile, so I was excited to see they added it!

  • Speaking of Garmin, I get comments on my Garmin watch nearly every time I am in the office. Funny.
  • I had a lot of fun at my coworker’s baby shower last week in Wisconsin! It was fun to chat with all her friends and family she tells me about, and of course, see all the love and support the baby is going to have! Look at this amazing trail mix bar they had at the party, to make your own bag to go. I definitely snacked on mine on the way home.

  • Awhile ago someone told me they thought I’d be a good mom because I always have snacks with me. Ha ha. Okay…?
  • Also awhile ago, we were getting a house insurance quote and the agent asked what kind of cats we have. “Regular…?” I responded. They both laughed. “American shorthair”? I tried again. Ha. It’s not like with dogs where a breed is more common!

Baby William is adorable! Those lashes! That smile! The milk chin. So sweet.

I saw that new feature on Garmin, but I don’t share my activities with anyone except for my connections, so I don’t think I need to use it…? I will say that I do not understand why runners – yes, especially women runners – post their routes on FB and Instagram! Don’t do that, people. You are literally giving a map of where you are (because you know these are their regular routes) to a potentially bad person!

I don’t like to say when we’re going away on my blog or FB beforehand, if I can help it. I’ve been in other towns for races and was “checked in” on FB from another person in our group (like at the race start) and I didn’t appreciate that fact being broadcast all over “hey, my house is empty, come steal everything”.

Oh and if I were asked that cat question, I would have said one dumb cat and one scaredy cat. 😉

    • kilax says:

Completely blissed out baby, right?! I can’t believe those lashes.

Yeah, if you don’t share your routes on social media, you shouldn’t need it! I wonder if the people sharing on Instagram and Facebook feel like it’s safer if they have private accounts? (Or less friends or whatever?) But… that is the reason I don’t like sharing my activities on Facebook – I don’t want people knowing when I am not home or where I am, exactly for the reason you said… I think people forget to think about these things when they post stuff! And hey, I link to all my runs in my weekly recap so I can reference it later, but it’s still out there, in public.

      Ha! Ha ha ha.

      • kilax says:

Oh! I meant to also say, I don’t appreciate when others tag me at events unless they ask me first. I guess I am just kind of weird about that! Have you said anything?

        • Shelley B says:

She’s our out-of-town renegade, so I forget to say something because I usually don’t notice it until later…I’m not on my phone right before a race, usually. But I’ll be seeing her soon, so I will mention it.

  2. Anne says:

Awww Baby William looks so sweet! Do you get to see him again anytime soon?

Do your light sensitivity issues also include a headache/migraine? Or is it just your eyes that are bothering you? It’s definitely worth checking out. Anymore I think most people need some kind of corrective lenses from staring at computers all day. That’s the only reason I have glasses (although I do still have better than 20/20 vision) – my eyes get tired!

HA HA HA your comment about Girls. Are you guys watching it all the way through? Did you play that song in boxing last weekend?

    • kilax says:

I sadly don’t have anything scheduled! I think I am going to watch for cheap flights to go down and see him for a short trip.

It’s typically just my eyes! (Although I do have light sensitivity issues when I get migraines, but these instances were standalone without a headache). I bet screen time is a huge part of it. It’s nuts – I have to wear my shades when driving, even when it’s overcast.

Yeah, we were current until the new season of Girls, and now we are finishing it. I played that song as our cool down in boxing 🙂

      • Anne says:

I hope you find a flight! It’d be hard to stay away from that cuteness 🙂

Yep, I have to wear sunglasses when it’s overcast too – driving and running. That would be my guess! I only wear my glasses when I’m on my computer or extended time looking at my phone/tablet, and they do help a lot.

I watched the first few seasons of that show live, and then… meh… I just kind of forgot about it!

  3. Kathy says:

I didn’t even realize for the longest time that there were as many breeds of cats as there are, I think I knew of 3/4! William is so cute…those eyelashes. Snacks are always a good thing to have. I get very grumpy when I get too hungry so snacks are a must!

    • kilax says:

I didn’t either until I watched some show on Animal Planet when we still had cable! Ha.

Yes! I am always surprised when people don’t have a snack with them. Ha.

  4. Mica says:

I haven’t used my Garmin in over a year, but I’m glad to hear that they’ve added this new privacy feature. I always worried about that too when I used mine.

Did you put everything in your trail mix, or do you strongly prefer some items over others? (I dislike when I get a scoop of trail mix and there is no chocolate.) You should just keep a portable trail mix bar on you at all times–you’d be such a good mom! 😉

    • kilax says:

I put most of the vegan things in (except tree nuts since those give me headaches). I should have put more sesame sticks in! I will know better for when I set up my own station for my fur child 🙂

  5. Your nephew is such a cutie! It might be the angle, but the way it looks like he has a receding old man hairline just kills me. The littlest 85 year old! Haha.

I’ve never had any of my GPS devices set to anything but private. That’s a great new feature for Garmin, but I’ve never really understood why anyone would want to share their route in the first place! I’m perfectly happy talking about my mileage, my pace, etc., but I don’t know why anyone but me needs or would even want to know where exactly I’m running, unless they’re looking for a new route. But what are the chances that a route good for ME will also be a route good for YOU? I could tell you how to get in four miles in my neighborhood, but you’d have to start and end at my house, and why would you be doing that if you don’t live at my house? Haha. So many questions. But, for people who do have interest in sharing their routes, I’m glad Garmin has a way for them to maintain a little bit of their privacy.

    • kilax says:

LOL! I was thinking he looked “older” in this photo 😉

I am super in to maps so I almost always look at that at my Garmin Connect friend’s runs/rides! I care about that more than pace/mileage/whatever. For local people, I like to see if we overlapped (one guy and I seem to be at the same locations but different days each week) and when my friends travel I like to see where they are running (one is in FL this week). I guess I am nosy! Ha!

    • Christina says:

Thank you!! He definitely has a receding old man hairline lol! Hopefully it will start filling out soon. 😛

  6. Maggie says:

I’m always amused when people ask me what kind of cat I have. Like they are so different? “The fat, lazy kind, that just sleep all day until I come home and put food in her dish”

  7. Zenaida says:

Your nephew is adorable!!! I need to check out that new Garmin privacy. I have no idea how mine is set up. Yikes! I only post distance and time because that’s the feature available in Garmin.

  8. martymankins says:

I like that Rihanna song (the whole ANTI album is great). My favorite song on the album is “Same Ol’ Mistakes”

    • kilax says:

I need to listen to it again and specifically listen to that one! She has such a great voice. Did you see when she did “Bitch Better Have My Money” life on SNL? Man, it was so good.
