Just a reminder

By , April 14, 2017 7:26 am

I have totally written about this before, so if it seems repetitive, it’s because it is!

This is just a reminder, that if someone is talking to you about something that you have no interest in or dislike, that that is NOT the first thing you have to say to them. IF you say it at all. It’s okay to listen, or ask questions! Even about something that you are not interested in! I know! Shocking!

Ha ha.

It astounds me on social media (and in person) when people mention things they are interested in, and people are so negative with their responses. Blah. Why do they even need to say that? Say it to someone else, duh. Don’t display your crappy side all over the internets. Keep that on the DL.*

All that being said, I am SUPER STOKED to see Fate of the Furious on Sunday! I “celebrated” the release day in my class this morning by having a Fast & Furious themed playlist and having some of the characters join us for our workout. Ha ha ha.

We’ve also been rewatching the movies this week (starting with #3, Fast & Furious) to get ready! If you like the series, check out this awesome infographic about them Rachel shared with me!

*I know, I know, “everything online is so fake and rosy, I want to see some real sh*t!” Well, I don’t want to see people being dicks to each other about their interests. Like who gives a flying fart. If you don’t like it, don’t comment and move along. Save the arguments for real topics.

Hi Kim!!! I feel like I haven’t commented forever.
My latest bugaboo is when I post about something on Facebook and get about 12 comments worth of advice. I feel bad because people mean well, but either 1) I have tried 5 out of the 10 things recommended OR 2) I don’t want advice at that moment, I just need to vent!!
Yesterday I was going off to someone and she said, “That’s frustrating, but you are up to the challenges.” Oh my goodness! Such a breath of fresh air! I immediately filed that away as something *I* need to start using in my responses to people as well. 🙂

      Hola!!!

That is an awesome response to that! Because often times we just want to be heard!

“That sucks” works too! Steven and I were watching Parks & Rec and one character told another that when his sig. other bitches to him he is just supposed to say “that sucks,” not give advice. Steven picked up on it and has been giving me more “that sucks” responses lately. YAY! 🙂

I’ve definitely been guilty of this even though I know better.

I always really enjoy your playlists in class, and appreciate that you take the time to put things like that together for us! I’ve attended classes at other studios where it’s the same music week after week, or they never switch up the genre, and that gets old pretty quickly.

Also, The Rock really helped push me with those mountain climbers this morning.

I have too! One time someone was telling me about a 100 mile race he was planning on doing and I immediately said “I could never run that far, 34 was enough for me”! And then I immediately said (ha), “I am sorry. I don’t even know why I felt the need to say that. This is not about me!” It’s lame when you are mentioning a workout to someone and they are all “I could never!” But sometimes that is the first thing you think and it comes out!

Thank you! I am happy you appreciate it! I think I would get so sick of things being the same thing all the time so I try to switch it up!

Ha! I thought he’d be good for that. And Dom was totally perfect for slam balls!!!! HA!

      • Anne says:

Yeah every time the 100 mile race has come up lately I’ve thought “OMG WHY?!” followed by “I could never do that,” and lastly (and this is the important one) “it’s so awesome that YOU can do that!” I think people mean “I could never do that” in a not bad way, but it doesn’t always come off that way.

Yeah music is something I REALLY pay attention to in classes too. Most instructors play the same thing over and over, or play stuff that’s so ridiculously bad that I can’t help but make fun of it (Ryan did this – bad music is still about 90% of what we talk about).

Well if I recall, Dom wasn’t the one telling me to go heavier with my slam balls in the third round (btw did you see I went from 8x to 12x then???)!

        • kilax says:

Exactly! And it’s often people’s way of processing things to think first about how it relates to them! Some people never get past that.

Ha! I love your stories of what Ryan would play! Does he teach anymore?

Yes! I did notice! You kicked butt!

I love how much fun you make your group workouts! Makes a huge difference when you’re the ones doing it, for sure.

I’ve never seen any of the Fast and Furious movies. However, I like to drive like the title sounds, so there’s that… 🙂

YESSS! I’m so excited to discuss after you see it today!

I was just telling Harrison about how much I admire how thoughtful you are. My first instinct is, unfortunately, to be really negative about something, even if it’s joking (“Ugh, that’s the WORST!”). I like when you write these posts because they’re reminders to be a little bit more considerate and thoughtful. Would it kill me to ask a question and show some interest? No, of course not! Thanks for the reminder.

And also, F&F is the best.

ME TOO!!! We are leaving in a few minutes!

Aww, that is so sweet of you to say to him. Thank you 🙂 You are welcome for the reminder! It’s hard for me sometimes, too. Being in the “teacher” role at my personal trainer job helps me with it – you have to try to be positive and nice all the time! (Which can be draining – props to the people who are in that position way more than me.) And to me, you’re inquisitive about my interests!!!

But if I take everything I read personally, then it IS always about me and therefore my opinion is valid … And/or, I’m superior to you if you like something that I disdain.

  6. Zenaida says:

    Did you like the movie?

  7. Kandi says:

I think i posted this last time but it’s still relevant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0la5DBtOVNI

  8. Alyssa says:

Is this where I am supposed to tell you that Fast and Furious movies are stupid. Ha just kidding. It’s pretty impressive that the series has gone on this long!!
I think people just like to insert themselves into conversations. I try to remind myself that it’s important to ask questions during conversations!
