Random Thoughts Thursday 133

  • I forgot to mention in my race report that I like the design on the Wisconsin Marathon/Half/5K shirt this year!

  • We’re having a generator installed in a few weeks! We’re mostly getting it for backup for the sump pumps, but I’m excited about the other things we’ll be able to continue using if the power goes out. Steven did a lot of work a few weeks ago moving the air conditioners (and putting down pea gravel underneath) to get the area ready for the generator!

  • I am loving the sun being up so early (today sunrise was 5:35 am)! Since we’ve been going to bed at a decent hour, some days, I can just let the sun wake me up. Okay, and these two:

  • I think this opinion article – “How I Learned to Shut Up About Running” (pdf here) – is not very well written or easy to follow (so how I read the whole thing I’m not sure) but I really like this statement: “But I’ve also made a realization: a lot of my pushing of others comes from the assumption that what’s good for me will also be good for everyone else, and also from my need to try to regulate or dictate other people’s lives.” YES. THIS. PEOPLE. Quit thinking you are the authority on how other people should live their lives. Gawd, if people would stop doing this, it would solve SO MANY problems. SO MANY.
  • The blogosphere has been dull lately, here included. It’s interesting how a lot of us have stepped back a bit, at the same time. I wonder if the bubble has burst and we’ll all get back to more story telling and connecting (as opposed to product shilling and “how to” lists). One can hope!

Instead of pushing what you like onto others, seek out new friends who also like those things! I’ve done that unintentionally with both running and burlesque. By joining a club or taking classes, I found my tribe and didn’t have to convert my friends 🙂

That is fantastic advice 🙂 And it’s great you have the personality type to do that. I know a lot of people who are scared of doing things by themself.

Oh yeah, I totally have to talk myself into doing this stuff. Sometimes it takes weeks … months … longer … before I’ll actually go through with it! Like running with the group that meets like 2 blocks away from our place. I blamed my knee for awhile as the reason I didn’t check them out. Now I have no good excuse.

    Look at those kitties…..so cute

Uggg I am so tired of how to lists on blogs! I’ve actually found myself unfollowing quite a few blogs lately because that it all they are (or as you say they are all just sponsored posts). If I am looking for credible information I am probably not going to look for it on some rando’s blog. I read blogs to get a peek into other people’s lives. Rant over 🙂

Yep, agreed x100. I have unfollowed a lot of blogs in the past few years (even people I know irl) because of this. When did everyone become an expert?! It just… really irks me. I will leave it at that. I don’t want to write a novel, ha!

  4. Troy says:

Boy, that is a couple of cute cats you have there.

  5. Anne says:

That shirt is cute! I like the medals too 🙂 I still wear my 2014 shirt (especially now that it fits again, ha ha ha!) – they’re pretty nice as far as race shirts go.

My feed has been awfully quiet as of late. But I’ve unfollowed a lot of blogs too, so I guess that would make sense. I always have stories (and not tips – I’m not an expert at anything other than sarcasm) I want to share, just a matter of finding the time to do so!

    • kilax says:

I liked the medal this year too! Awesome that you can use it! I need to go through mine and see which one that is – this is one race I’ve saved all my shirts.

Yeah, I am in the same boat! Would you like to write more? I really like having my little stories and pics documented here, but it’s a lot of work, like you said!

Cute cats! And yes, people need to stop telling people what to do. Sometimes I tell people about what I think and my experience but then leave it up to them to decide for themselves.

I like the shirt design too. The Kenosha lighthouse reminds me of the lighthouse at Ponce de Leon in Florida although that one is much taller. Recall it was around 200 steps to the top, probably not the best plan 2 days before the Disney marathon but I did it.
