Random Thoughts Thursday 139

  • Our power went out last night! Why am I excited? Because our generator kicked on right away, and we were able to keep watching Game of Thrones during the storm (and more importantly, our sump pumps keep running). The generator ran for an hour and a half, then the power came back on.
  • Khali was freaked out during the storm. She wanted Data to comfort her, but all he wanted to do was give her side-eye.

  • I’ve mentioned this before but I am going to be more specific this time (and could definitely dedicate a whole post to this rant). What is with people one-upping each other on Facebook when someone else posts an athletic achievement? I constantly see people posting a specific distance they ran/biked/swam and instead of (some, not all) commenters simply liking it or saying “good for you” they just comment with how they did more that day. Sigh. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW YOU WORKED OUT MORE! I also see similar stuff when people post what time of day they worked out (“I worked out earlier than that,” etc.). Sigh. I guess some people don’t care about sharing what they do, until they can use it look like they are doing more than someone else? And this is (part of) why I don’t post or do much on Facebook.
  • At the same time, I also don’t get people who lie about their athletic achievements on social media. The truth is out there, and the internets will find it. Ha ha.
  • THIS IS NOT SPONSORED! Steven bought some OxiClean to work on a stain and holy schnit, this stuff is the bomb. My running hydration vest was so stinky I thought I was going to have to throw it out and get a new one, but I soaked it in OxiClean and hot water and it doesn’t smell anymore! It also got the smell out of some other items. I had tried other methods (vinegar, soaking in detergent, sports wash) and they’d never worked – I am really excited this does!

  • ALSO NOT SPONSORED. We bought a handheld vacuum to clean up cat hair and other small messes and so far I really like it! I will post the brand/model after we use it some more.
  • I send my mom and snis pics during my runs and my snister said (about the one below) “that looks like it should be a Dell desktop background.” Ha! Now I will have to try to send them more “desktop background” worthy pictures.

I love Random Thought Thursdays because we always get cute cat pictures. In regards to people trying to one up one another on Facebook, “Triathlete” just ran an article on the very same topic. Apparently, it’s a thing.

Aww, thanks! I always think of you now when I post them!

Thanks for sharing the article! I 100% believe that everyone is doing impression management online. Apparently some people want our impression of them to be that they are jerks 😉 I wonder if people responding the way I mentioned is what the article calls “elf-evaluation threat.”

  2. Oh, poor Khali! 🙁 I understand her dislike for thunderstorms – I don’t like them either! I wonder if they make ThunderShirts for cats? If they do, maybe that would help her when Data is feeling less than interested in comforting her.

I didn’t know OxiClean could get stink out of things! I thought it was just for visual stains, not smell stains (is that a thing? It seems to exist, so I’m going to assume it’s a thing). That’s great that it saved your vest!

    • kilax says:

Maybe they do! I should look in to some options for her 🙂

I thought that it was only for visual stains too. And not just on clothes! Ha, now I am wondering if I only THINK the stink is gone… ha ha ha. (JK, I could tell it really worked!)

OMG Data way to be a jerk! 🙂

Do one-uppers just lack all self-awareness? Surely if they could hear themselves, they would stop?

    • kilax says:

      Typical.

Yep, that. They wouldn’t stop. A lot of them are people who can’t handle most human interactions. So I guess why do I expect them to act normal on social media (oh, cause they have time to think before they hit “reply”! ha ha).

  4. Amy says:

Actually that picture reminds me of the Teletubbies background!

  5. Chaitali says:

Aww… poor Khali not getting the comfort she wanted. Hopefully she calmed down as the evening went on. I’ve never tried Oxi Clean but that’s a great endorsement! I’ll have to look for it.

  6. Shelley B says:

Aww, poor Khali. She was probably outside many times during a thunderstorm before you and Steven rescued her, so naturally she’s more afraid than Data. Listen Data, you have had an excellent upbringing…take pity on your new sister!

I belong to a small private FB page and I SWEAR, there is one person who is tone-deaf – someone will post something intense that is happening in their life and Miss Tone-Deaf will take that as an opportunity to reply with a cheery update on her life, complete with “hugs!” at the end. WTF.

I forget about the magic of Oxy Clean, but you are right, that stuff does the trick when nothing else will.

    • kilax says:

Yeah! And I was hoping she’d feel more comforted since she was inside and safe. 🙁 Of course Data is like “whatevs, scaredy cat!”

OMG. Ha. Miss Tone-Deaf. It really sounds like she is. And I think these people are too. This is just HOW THEY ARE and we have to deal. Sigh.

I am so excited we found out about it (via my Grandma, of course)!!!!
