Things I’m excited about in November!

By , November 1, 2017 5:35 am

Nearly the same picture as last year!

  • Month two of my detail! I am currently in my sixth week and immensely enjoying it. My mood about work is better than it’s been in… years? I learn something new every day, and all of it helps me understand the organization I work for better. And I feel like I’m helping people! So, yay!
  • And as fun as that all is, two four day weekends – Veterans Day Weekend and Thanksgiving Weekend. This is the first Friday after Thanksgiving I’ll have off in eight years, because I recently switched which Friday I get off.
  • DST ending. I think I need that daylight in the morning to help me wake up. And I love dark evenings.
  • Seeing the new Thor film!
  • More fires:
  • Christmas Holiday stuff – getting a tree and putting decorations up, ordering holiday cards, and listening to holiday music. The music starts today! Ooo, and continuing to burn fall candles!
  • Finishing my own holiday wishlist, and present shopping for family! And some friends – I will ask who wants to exchange gifts and who’d rather like to do something together in lieu of gifts.
  • Starting 5K training – I suppose I should start thinking about whether or not I am going to run Frosty at the end of February. I have a lot of work to do to get 5K ready!
  • Colder weather meaning it’s not as grossly hot in the studio.
  • Dates with friends!

I’m dying for Ragnarok, too. It looks so good!

    • kilax says:

Yes! It looks so funny! I saved an article from Rolling Stone to read about it after I see it – it sounded like they thought it was the best Thor yet!

I’m with you on DST! It’s especially bad here because the sun is currently coming up at 8am! I remember that from growing up in the Eastern time zone, but man has that been an adjustment. Thankfully I still work in central time, so sleeping in past 7 isn’t a huge deal.

My family is having their big Christmas party in November, as well as Thanksgiving, so I’m looking forward to lots of celebrating (and good food)

Is there any reason you wouldn’t do Frosty? Weather permitting, I’d love to come back and do it. That was such a fun race!

    • kilax says:

Going from one edge of the time zone to another edge of a different one would be a major adjustment! That is good you still work in CST!

That will be fun! Is it two separate celebrations?

I won’t do it if I don’t feel trained. I want to race it. I am also feeling less enthusiastic about it after last year’s shenanigans. Does “weather permitting” mean “safe to drive”? Or are you talking about race weather? πŸ™‚

      • Anne says:

        Yep, two different parties πŸ™‚

Yeah I can understand that after last year, but they did listen and change it back! But it’s local and doesn’t sell out, so it’s probably easy enough to play by ear. And yep, I mean safe driving weather – I’m not too picky about my winter running weather as long as it’s not icy πŸ™‚

        • kilax says:

Fun! I like spreading out stuff like that πŸ™‚

They did, which surprised me! It’s just hard to get excited about when I am not in to races right now. So we’ll see what happens! I’ll definitely go if you decide to come πŸ™‚

          • Anne says:

Sounds like a plan! And if you ended up having boxing that weekend too, I wouldn’t complain πŸ˜‰

I’ll already be HM training by then, so I guess I’ll need to be excited about a race.

            • kilax says:

Ok! I will keep that in mind. Although I do not want to feel “boxing” sore if I am racing! LOL!

Hopefully you will be excited about your HM πŸ™‚ I bet you will be if we have cool weather to train in.

I’m super excited for the new Thor movie! It looks like it will be a lot of fun.

  4. Karen Bayne says:

    Nice fireplace!
I just can’t with the Christmas music yet, I am such a bah humbug! LOL but you enjoy it πŸ™‚
Fall candles all year long πŸ™‚

    • kilax says:

      Thanks πŸ™‚

I overheard someone at B&BW saying how they do the winter scents all year long! It’s fun that some people stick with the same scent all year.

  5. Kathy says:

I’m excited for Christmas decorations too. We usual start ours just after Thanksgiving, so a little while to go πŸ™‚
I’ve turned into such a bad morning person that I wish we had more sun in the evening as I prefer to run then (that’s just getting worst ha ha), shoe lights and (soon) a noxgear it is. By Christmas just add a few baubles and I’ll be a running tree πŸ˜†

  6. You get a four day weekend for Veteran’s Day?! I don’t even get a three day weekend for it! Well, I suppose *I* personally do, since I’ll be in Vegas for Rock ‘n’ Roll that weekend, but I don’t *get* that time off – I *took* that time off. Big difference! I’m also so surprised you don’t usually get the Friday after Thanksgiving off! I didn’t think anyone had to work that day. I’m happy that you get two four-day weekends this month, though! That’s definitely something to look forward to πŸ™‚

    • kilax says:

Yeah, I get that Friday off for the holiday, and it’s the Friday I was supposed to have off, so I moved that Friday off to the following Monday. I only get federal holidays off, so no extra time around Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. People are always so surprised that I don’t get extra holiday time. But we get the other federal holidays people don’t typically get (Veterans Day) and I get every other Friday off (because I work extra hours) so sometimes I get a four day weekend! I hope you enjoy your long weekend in Vegas!!! I’d be looking forward to that (obviously)!

  7. Xaarlin says:

I’m so happy your detail is going well! That is great news πŸ™‚

I am not a fan of The time change tho- I like light. When it’s dark at 4pm, I come home and it instantly feels like it’s 10pm (although it’s around 5:30). πŸ™

Yay 5k training! Short and sweet is good stuff to train for in the winter!

    • kilax says:

      Thank you πŸ™‚

It does feel like that – which is what I like cause we go to bed earlier! Ha ha ha ha. I know I am in the minority though, of liking that. It does stink to spend all your light hours at work!

Yes! And they plow the trail I use for intervals too, so I can keep training outside!

  8. Mica says:

I’m looking forward to a lot of these things too! Especially the ramp up for the holidays. It’s such a fun time of the year.

And, yep, “Thor: Ragnarok” did not disappoint AT ALL.

    • kilax says:

It is such a fun time! Did you figure out how much time you are going to have off around the holidays?

I kind of want to see it again (but won’t, ha).
