Hmm

By , November 7, 2017 6:34 am

I haven’t considered running another marathon since my last one in December 2015. I was elated with how it went, and haven’t wanted to allocate the time to train for another one. <— lazy

But, man, if your favorite runner winning one of the World Major Marathons doesn’t inspire you to do something epic… then something might be wrong with you. Ha ha. Hmm…

That time xaarlin and I both had a random gift for each other – and it turned out to be the exact same thing – a pin of Amy Cragg catching Shalane Flanagan as she finished the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials.

When xaarlin text me Sunday morning that Shalane Flanagan won the New York City Marathon, I immediately had tears of happiness (especially when I saw the photos and videos of Flanagan’s emotional finish). I’ve loved following Flanagan’s career, and have always rooted for her. To see her finally get this big win, on what she said would be her last race, was just amazing.

I selfishly hope she doesn’t retire though!

That is a cute pin 🙂
ha! well you could do what I did and just skip the bulk of the training bahaha…I just didn’t want to invest all that time with my iffy feet.
    Shalane’s finish was pretty epic!

When I saw it I HAD to get it for a few people.

I love the training more than the race, usually!

Wasn’t it though?! And that was quite a lead!

I’ve been contemplating another marathon this spring…I just need my running mojo to come back. haha! (I think winter and cooler temps will help!)

We could train together…(virtually and in person!) 🙂

That pin is super cute and I love that you both bought it for each other at the same time. Awwww!

Which one are you thinking about? I would love to train with you, even if I don’t sign up for one. You know I love those long runs. And I also need to get my mojo back (the colder weather last week was helping fo sho).

I just couldn’t believe it when I opened it and it was the exact same thing I was about to give her!!!

Maybe Green Bay? I kind of want to try a new one but I don’t really want to travel for it and I don’t want it to be too late in the spring that it’s warm. Green Bay is already iffy on that.

I didn’t watch it live, but caught the replay. Gives me goosebumps to watch it or even think about it. Such an awesome moment for her!

That’s so funny that you both bought the same pin for each other! How’s that for evidence that you’re meant to be friends with someone 🙂

I’m not even American and I was so happy when she won. She just seems like a really nice person and to have been in the pool because of and injury 9 months ago to win a major marathon….amazing!

Yep the training for a marathon is what would put me off too. It does seem more doable now I have people to run the long runs with. I think you should co-opt and unsuspecting friend. Next fall or spring is my plan I have to get stronger (and faster I hope) first 🙂

    • kilax says:

She does seem nice. What a come back! I wonder if she will keep going and run Boston since she had to miss it this year. It’s not very far away though.

Yeah, I love the long runs but they take me a long time. And I don’t want to wake up hella early. Doing them with people makes them much more likely to happen, for sure! Do you feel like you’re getting stronger now?

      • Kathy says:

Yes I felt really good running on Sunday. I could have pushed and taken a good 5 minutes off but I was running with a buddy. It’s still a bit hit or miss some long runs feel like doo doo 🙂
I can go harder on the strength training now I have the running base and don’t have to worry as much about running with a little muscle fatigue, so that should help.
Do you have a marathon in mind?

        • kilax says:

That is great that you felt so good on Sunday! And LRs being hit or miss sounds pretty normal ha ha ha. I am happy to hear you are able to run again without pain.

I don’t have a marathon in mind at all. I’d probably just get a marathon base going and sign up for once last minute if the weather looked decent.

  6. Right?! I have stayed faithfully away from 26.2 for awhile…but now I’m really starting to think it might be time again!

  7. Anne says:

DO IT!!!!!! I hope your mojo comes back with the cooler weather! It’s definitely making me want to get out there 🙂

Jessie signed up for Chicago next year, so I offered to train with her since I’ll at least be in HM shape. No idea if I could actually make it up to those 20 mile runs, but I have thought it’d be cool to do a marathon by the time I’m 40. Which isn’t too far away…

    • kilax says:

That will be fun to train with her! Do you have a certain marathon in mind you want to do?

      • Anne says:

Definitely Chicago (assuming they still let you in for running 4 Shamrock Shuffles – I’ve already done that!), probably in either 2020 (I’ll be 39) or 2021 (the big 4-0). So PLENTY of time to work out a training plan 🙂

  8. I wasn’t able to watch the race as it happened, but just seeing a clip of the finish on Twitter was enough to make me tear up, too. I’m so happy she finally got her win!

  9. Xaarlin says:

Eh you’re not lazy, you’re responsible with knowing your priorities and that theres more to life than marathons 😉

And I love that pin- it’s on my IM backpack and I see it everyday 🙂

    • kilax says:

True true! It’s been good to take a break from running so much and focus on other things.

I need to put mine on my work backpack or something so I see it every day! I have it on my hydration backpack now.

Training for the Frosty 5K morphs into training for the Wisconsin Marathon!

    • kilax says:

WOOOOOOOOOOOT! I am signed up for the WIHM, so if Frosty goes well and I keep my fitness up, I could have an awesome half! If I decide to do a marathon, I’ll probably train like I am doing one then pick one on a cool weekend in the spring or next winter 🙂

  11. Wendy says:

I’d like to run one more marathon. I don’t know if my body will let me…

  12. Shelley B says:

I’ve been off the grid for nearly a week and heard that she won, but haven’t seen any moments of it – MUST FIND!
