2017 Racing Statistics

By , December 16, 2017 8:23 am

2017 was another quiet year with races/events! I participated in nine events, compared to five last year (and twenty the year before). Three of those nine were biking events. I only ran six events this year.

I ran less in 2017. I decided to cut back to around thirty miles a week for the year. I miss running more than that, and plan to bump up the mileage in 2018. I do not miss racing more, but I would like to “race” a race in 2018 with a goal time, likely a 5K. It would be fun to do an event in a different state, too, but we’ll see about that!

I hope to do RAGBRAI again, if the route doesn’t go too far south in the state. And it would be fun to do another cycling event!

Also, if you would like to fill out your own 2017 Racing Statistics in the comments or on your own blog, I created a google doc here for you to copy and fill out/edit!

You can see 2012 here, 2013 here, 2014 here, 2015 here, and 2016 here. You can always find my race stats here.

I think I’ve done 3x 5ks, 1x 10k and 1 X HM not a lot at all for me but if 2018 goes to plan I’ll be doing a lot of running to make up for it 😂 Rocking it with the age group awards, well done! 🙌🏻

I love your stat page – and how you track not just your miles/pace and those ‘typical’ runner things 🙂 but also the events in costume, events done in matchy outfit with friend – nice!
Are you missing the marathon distance or happy right now that you don’t have that pressure?

  3. Yay! I love this post every year! I need to start working on mine 🙂

Wow. Impressive results. I read and skim most of your racing updates, but always look forward to this end of year post.

Training Week posts, not racing updates.

I always find these interesting! I find that I don’t participate in as many races anymore either. Mine is both financially motivated (lots of races can be expensive) and I don’t use races as social activities as much as I used to. I still do races for fun but I’ve just cut back!
Do you think in the next year you will stick with your “tried and true” events or try new ones?

    • kilax says:

Sounds like we are in the same boat, race-wise! I wonder if we’ll ever swing back to more!

Definitely tried and true ones. I would love to do something (or two somethings, lol) new! How about you?

      • Alyssa says:

I have a few new ones on the schedule already Madison 70.3, IM Lake Placid, and Shamrock Shuffle. I don’t really have too many tried and true races! If I sign up for anything else, it will probably be just small local races

        • kilax says:

Oh cool! Madison 70.3 is in June, right? Used to be cowman or something?

          • Alyssa says:

Yes! June 16 I think and then Lake Placid is July 22. The first year it was called Milkman. I heard last year for the podium instead of the usual champagne shower they did it with milk!

            • kilax says:

Milkman, that’s right! Friends and I had been looking at that for a relay option. Lake Placid is a bit earlier in the year than the Madison IM you’ve done! Does training start pretty soon?!

              LOL @ the milk shower!

  7. Mica says:

Can you pick a favorite race out of all these? I’m guessing no because you ran so many with friends or in costume, so each one was unique.

I don’t remember you having a really horrible time in any of your recaps, but are there any you definitely wouldn’t do again?

    • kilax says:

Hmmm, for this year… I really enjoyed running a half marathon with Charlyn, and doing RAGBRAI with my family. I think the ones with people were more fun.

I would NEVER do that stupid 2 mile race again (the one that was supposed to be a 5K and they changed the distance and location after I signed up).
