My ONE goal for 2018

Everyone knows about SMART goals, right? SMART goals are:

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic/Relevant
Time Bound

Setting goals that meet these five criteria makes you more likely to achieve them because it forces you to actually plan out how you are going to meet the goal, instead of just daydreaming about it. It also forces you to make sure it’s, yes, attainable and realistic.

I’ve been thinking about it for a few months, and I have one SMART goal for 2018:

TO EAT A VEGAN DONUT

Guys. I have been craving a vegan donut for months. It is time to MAKE this goal happen in 2018!

I know I can do it, because I’ve done it before (but it’s been awhile, so I’m a bit unsure of myself). So, it’s attainable and realistic. It’s relevant, because I have an interest in donuts.

It’s specific. Eat ONE vegan donut. That’s all I have to do. And it’s measurable, at one donut.

Now comes the tricky part. Making it time bound. Eating a vegan donut requires travel to either Chicago or Milwaukee. Preferably to Holey Moley Doughnuts in Milwaukee. I was hoping I would meet this goal this year, if my in-laws traveled to Milwaukee airport and we stopped for donuts after, but alas, they went to Midway (in Chicago).

Will we really drive to Milwaukee, just to get donuts? I think yes, because we’ve done it before. But I am setting a high bar here, and saying we will do this by the end of January. I am counting on all of you to hold me accountable.

After I accomplish this goal, I will reassess and see if it’s something I think I can do again in 2018. Maybe eat more of them? Maybe have more than one a month?! Who knows! But I don’t want to get ahead of myself.

On to bigger and better things in 2018!

This is a very SMART goal! You will have to stay focused to achieve it! Do not get distracted by any cinnamon rolls or other delicious pastries when you make it to the donut shop!

Very ambitious to make it by the end of January 🙂 Those donuts do look amazing!

Right? But I believe in myself that I can do it!

Their donuts are so good. Sigh. I follow them on instagram, and that is part of the problem… I keep seeing their posts each day and wanting a donut so bad!

😂😂😂😂 that is a good goal

Excellent goal. I think your other goal should be to run a race in a new state, specifically Maine. I think I’m ready to tackle my first post baby half marathon and I need a running buddy!

    • kilax says:

Ooo, that would be amazing! I know I have told you this before, but my husband and I want to visit Maine, so I will make sure to tell you if we do. I would like to run in a new state next year!

We have a guest room! And a boat!

LOL – you go, girl! 🙂

That’s all well and good for SMART goals but what will your intentions be in this new season of vegan donut eating?

  8. Anne says:

I wish I could support you in your goal by bringing you some vegan donuts from Cleveland (there’s at least 2 places that I know makes them here, and the one I’ve actually been to is really good) but I can’t make it there on your timeline.

Ooh, I know! Maybe you should make a goal to eat a vegan donut in each state!

Oh my gosh! That is a most epic goal. I will have to consider if AFTER I accomplish this task. I have already had them in WI, IL, NY, & MO, but I wonder if I would need to start the challenge over, hmm.

If I ever go out to Cleveland for that project at work (maybe in Feb?!?!) I can totally get one then!!!

      • Anne says:

You only have to start over if you want to.

Better visit soon, I think we’re getting out of Cleveland at the end of February!

        • kilax says:

I was thinking that when I saw your post – what if she is not even there anymore by the time I finally go on this stupid trip?!

          Where are you headed?

  9. kapgar says:

Yeah, that’s not a SMART goal I could make flu at work. Not at all.

  10. Where could one find such donut? Now I am curious.

  11. This is the best use of a SMART goal that I’ve ever seen.

I 100% approve of this goal, not that you need my approval. (Are most doughnuts vegan? I assumed it was usually the toppings that made them non-vegan.)

This really made me want a doughnut now!
