Goalz are hard

By , January 9, 2018 6:17 am

I have an update on my ONE SMART goal for 2018 and it’s not a good one. Eek!

In my mind, driving to Madison on Sunday was an opportunity to maybe go the “long” way and stop in Milwaukee for a vegan donut, when Holey Moley opens at 6:30 am.

Alas, I did not want to wake up even earlier and do the longer trip. I failed before I even tried. Sigh.

I especially failed, because I made a special stop at Hurts Donuts in Madison to get donuts for Steven!

Ugh. If only they had vegan donuts! If only I wasn’t so lazy! If only I had researched other places in Madison that might have vegan donuts. Achieving this goal is harder than I thought it would be!!!

Luckily, I have a month to complete it!!! And I can keep trying, all year, if I don’t achieve it in January!

I am surprised I haven’t mentioned Hurts Donuts on here before. We went there in May when we were in Dallas, and Steven thought their glazed donut was the best he’s ever had (they also do tons of crazy cool specialty donuts, which isn’t his thing). When we got back home from that trip he looked up other Hurts Donuts locations and was excited to see they have this one in Wisconsin, and some in Iowa. So I had to stop and get him some since the race I did was only a few miles away.

And don’t worry, I did get a vegan brownie at Monty’s Blue Plate Diner. And it was delicious.

I love the name of Hurts Donuts so much!

Dumb question here, but what makes a donut vegan vs non-vegan?

      Isn’t it fun?!

Not a dumb question at all! Most donuts have dairy and eggs, is all! So I have to find one without those things. And without bacon on it! LOL!

I’m so proud of you for putting yourself out there and admitting that you failed at your goal. It’s not always easy to achieve your goals, but with enough determination and focus, I know you can do it!

That brownie looks amaaaaaazing, YUM 🙂

I’m sorry you were unable to achieve your 2018 goal in Madison last weekend. Don’t give up, I know you can do it! You still have time.

The Hurt’s donuts were so good. If only they had vegan options, they would be perfect.

Thanks, Troy! And thanks for your encouragement, I appreciate it! I feel the clock ticking but I’m committed.

Wouldn’t that be AMAZING? When I was there Sunday, he told me they may open a MKE location!!!

Might get your chance next weekend. I owe you since I didn’t stop in Milwaukee when came back from Madison over Christmas… but that wasn’t in 2018. Ha

    • kilax says:

So you owe me like, DOUBLE donuts since it’s from 2017… is what you’re saying?!

      • Andrew says:

Or… if I provide a vegan donut now, would it only count for 2017 (since I could have, but did not, pick up vegan donuts during the Christmas visit)? If this is the case, it might not fulfill your 2018 goal. You’ll really have to look into the wording of your contract with your lawyer.

  6. UGH what a tragedy!!!!!! How dare they get in the way of your goals!! Thank goodness you still have three weeks to take care of this if you want to accomplish your goal by the end of January. Though maybe SMART just needs to be amended to SMARTF (f for flexible), and then you could count your brownie, which, in my humble opinion, looks better than a donut could ever look anyway. But then again brownies are pretty much my #1 in the dessert department, so I’m biased.

    • kilax says:

Right?! It’s really a good thing I paid attention to the T (time bound) and gave myself enough time!!! I like your idea to add the F for flexible, ha, and include the brownie. It was sooooooooooooo so good! Do you have a favorite brownie place in the city?

OMG TRY Mindful Baking’s (https://www.facebook.com/MindfulBaking/) brownies. You can actually pick them up at the Native Foods location in the loop (and maybe others). DELISH!

You’re not that far into the year, so plenty of time to get a vegan doughnut still!

I love frosted brownies like the vegan one you posted. The frosting is so unnecessary but sooooo good!

    • kilax says:

Thanks for your positive attitude!!!! 🙂

I was like, “whoa, this is frosted?!” I really enjoyed the added frosting!!!! What a treat!

That brownie looks amazing! I am rooting for you to achieve your SMART goal of 2018. I just crossed off my first smart goal too and you’d better believe it felt as amazing and inspiring as you think it would to scratch a goal like that off your list. You can do it!

    • kilax says:

      It was DELISH!!!!

Yay! Good for you! I need to keep in mind how good it’s going to feel to achieve this, as inspiration to GET. IT. DONE!!!
