A weekend surprise!

By , February 5, 2018 6:24 am

Our weekend started off to a very exciting Friday night watching The Martian (a favorite of mine that I watch over and over), ordering new shoes for Steven, and finishing the wash cloths my mom ordered for her sister-in-law.

There’s three each of the patterned ones, and four of the turquoise. What’s next? Starting on a beautiful pattern and yarn that Mica gave me over a year ago!

On Saturday, I met Rachel to run in Burlington, Wisconsin, our go-to (somewhat) middle point between our homes. We ran on a new-to-us trail, and could smell the Nestle plant in town for a lot of our run! It was lovely to see Rachel and catch up.

While I was running errands on the way back home, my older brother text me and asked if I had lunch plans. He happened to be in the Chicagoland area, so we met him and his wife for a late lunch. What a wonderful surprise! It was nice to spend my morning with one of my best friends, and my afternoon with family.

Me, Steven, Alyssa, Chevy (the dog), and Nick. They were in town to pick up this ’41 Chevy (the car).

It’s not often we get to sit and chat without interruptions when we are with family, so it was great to truly catch up. We finally got to hear (from them) all about the surprise trip they took my nephews on to California in September.

After that Steven and I ran a few errands. We both need new phones, so we went to the store to look at them. I am going to stick with Apple, but he is jumping ship (ha) and was looking at Samsung and Google models (we’ll order them online later).

My big goal for Saturday night was to stay up to watch Saturday Night Live because Natalie Portman was hosting and she’s a favorite actress of mine.

I was successful and stayed up for the whole show (only because I napped from 9:45 until it started at 10:35, ha). Unfortunately the show was mostly meh! Oh well. At least we have an antenna now and can watch meh shows again!

We got a few inches of snow over Saturday night and during Sunday morning. The roads were dicey when I drove to teach fitness boxing at Efit. This winter seems odd, with how many times it’s snowed and melted completely.

I ran inside when I got back from teaching, and Steven was lifting, so it was fun to be working out at the same time! We went out to the shooting range after lunch.

I feel successful when I hit the target!

When we got back, it was time for errands (clearing that snow!) then pretending to watch the Super Bowl. We had it on in the living room while we made dinner and banana bread, and prepped all the produce for the week.

I needed more quiet time than I had this weekend. Both days I wanted to take a nap (and truthfully, mope about Snow) and didn’t. I have a hectic work week ahead where I am giving training, and taking training, and doing my normal work. I hope I can find some quiet moments in the week!

LOL!!!! He might get the same phone as Will! I really hope he likes it. He’s disliked his iPhone for a loooooooooooooong time!

I loved the Martian too, I expected it to be boring but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it! I hope you find some peaceful time this week 🙂

I’m glad you had such a fun weekend! Sometimes it is nice to have some downtime to mope when you’re feeling sad, but I think having fun distractions is good too 🙂

I’m laughing at the idea of staying up for SNL, but only because it’s on SO LATE here. I’d never be able to stay up until 1am!

Thanks! I do think the distractions and especially getting out of the house is good for me!

Ha! I was thinking about you on Saturday and how it’s on so late there. NOPE!

  4. I could not agree more about this winter’s weather! It feels like we have been SO all over the place all season long! One of my coworkers lives in Florida but is coming up here next week, and she was telling me on the phone today that she’s not looking forward to the cold after seeing today’s temperatures. I told her she probably doesn’t have to worry – with how things have been all season, it seems like we’ll be due for another 50 degree day next week, haha. Though I guess if you’re used to Florida, that would probably still feel cold 😛

    • kilax says:

Ha ha ha! It would still be cold to her, but will feel nice to us! And I bet you are right that one is coming. Then all the snow will melt AGAIN. Gah, it’s just so bizarre!!!

It was 70 degrees here yesterday, but a feels like of 32 for our run this morning – gah! I’m glad to get both weather worlds, but it sure makes for some weird piles of laundry – one run, short sleeves, the next one, long sleeves, a neck warmer, gloves, everything! It must be so odd to have snow, then have it totally melt away, and then get it again. Make up your mind, Mother Nature!

    • ChezJulie says:

Shelley B are you in Texas? That’s exactly what the weather’s been like here!

    • kilax says:

Aren’t those kind of weather swings just NUTSO? They mess with us mentally, and they often give me headaches. HA! And all the laundry, lol. Isn’t it annoying how long it takes to dress and undress for those cold runs?!

Wow, that was a really busy weekend!

I love your pile of washcloths (especially the teal ones, haha). I’m sure your mom will be so happy to receive them too (and then pass them on).

What was the Nestle plant making? I hope it was something chocolate-y and not savory. I used to be able to smell the Kraft factory on runs, and it wasn’t that nice.

Harrison and I both have Android devices (and I jumped ship from Apple), so let me know if Steven has any questions!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! LOL that you love the teal ones, HA!!!! I am excited to see her reaction! I gave her lots of options for designs and she chose this basic one! P.S. I just printed a washcloth pattern with right and left twists to try (doing that until I have time to unravel (wording?) the yarn for my shawl)!

Chocolate! Oh gosh, I can imagine the Kraft smells. There was a Quaker Oats factory in a town in IA I used to drive through, and PEE-EW!

Will do! He looked a the Pixel but is thinking Galaxy. What does Harrison have?
