Random Thoughts Thursday 191

  • I received two new Starbucks “Been There” mugs as gifts in the past few weeks! Gina got me Colorado, and Bobbi got me Arizona! Thank you, ladies! And since I’ve visited those states, I can use them (as opposed to waiting until I’ve gone there to use them <— just my own silly rules)!

  • I finished Not Tonight, Josephine and started the novel A Lady’s Guide to Selling Out, about a twenty-eight year old working in public relations, who gets a special assignment that makes her question if she wants to be a sellout anymore, or follow her passion and be a writer (maybe – I am only a couple of chapters in but that is what I am guessing it’s about from the description). Whoa. The writing is so smart, clever, current, and relevant, that I feel like there’s actually something to get out of every sentence. So I’m enjoying it, but the level of concentration is kind of wearing me out! I did enjoy Not Tonight, Josephine. I loved the author’s sense of humor!

  • I was so relaxed on vacation that I let my almost three year Duolingo streak lapse! I felt upset for a few minutes, then felt strangely free. Ha. (Only Bethany will care about this!)
  • Ugh, then I missed “free” Shitterfly magnet day after vacation – when I have so many pics I want to make in to magnets! I turned off my Shitterfly Facebook notifications and saw it the day after on Facebook. Luckily “free” magnets come once a month. You guys know I love my (custom & regular!) magnets.
  • Since I was planning on getting myself a mani for my birthday, then my coworker treated me, I can get one more… right? (Okay, let’s admit – this is a slippery slope of going back to getting them 1.5 times a month. I’m only trying not to since I bought a car this year and that wasn’t in my imaginary budget.) ANYWAY. I decided to get one nail a lighter shade than the rest, and meh, I don’t like it! Regrets!

From the OPI Peru Collection – Grandma Kissed A Gaucho and Don’t Toot My Flute, my previous mani was Alpaca My Bags

  • I got a bill from my doctor, and was surprised to see my health care provider didn’t pay any of my visit fees. So I called the doctor and they said my provider said they don’t have me in the system. Which is odd, because I was checking the system while on the call, and it showed me as current. At first, the doctor told me to call my provider and see what was up… until we talked further and they realized they sent the bill to the wrong location. SIGH. Always question your health care bills, folks! I’m lucky I don’t have many and can KIND OF keep it straight. I can’t imagine dealing with a lot of them, or with a family’s. They make that sh*t so effing complicated.
  • And today I have to go back to the doctor because they screwed up a test from last time. Sigh. I don’t want to go. I don’t want to adult today!

not as ranty as I was expecting 🙂

    I like the lighter nail.

Deal with insurance is the worst. I find it so confusing. Good thing you questioned it and figured it all out?

    No kitten pics? :p

    • kilax says:

Phew! I felt super ranty! 😉

Thanks! It feels cheesy to me!

It IS! I have to call to have it explained to me then take a ton of notes and then when I try to explain it to Steven? Doesn’t make sense again. Sigh.

Ha! No! I have some kitten notes for tomorrow – I will probably post them then!

  2. Oh my gosh!!! Yes, I do care, very much!!! Ugh, that is TRAGIC. I’m just a couple weeks away from hitting my two year streak (I think I’m at like 703 or 704 days right now, though I will admit that I’ve frozen my streak a couple of times, so I haven’t actually practiced 703/4 days in a row). Are you still practicing, or have you given up entirely now that your streak is broken?

I know someone going through this insane runaround with doctor’s bills/insurance right now (one entity says the bills are paid, while the other says they aren’t – you can imagine the kind of drama that that causes), and it really is so ridiculous. I suppose it’s not *surprising* how complicated healthcare is in the name of the almighty dollar, but that doesn’t make it any more acceptable. Any how annoying that you have to go back to get a test redone! I had the same thing happen earlier this year, and it was such a nuisance.

And it didn’t even offer me to “buy” my streak back (I realized on day 2, after I forgot to go in and tell it to use credits again to continue it). I haven’t been practicing. I think I needed a break! I will get back to it I bet! That is exciting you’re almost to your two year streak!

Ugh, I feel bad that your acquaintance is stuck in the he said/she said (somewhat game). Sigh. So much fun to call different people back and forth and argue 🙁

You know, I really REALLY liked the old Starbucks mugs, but I am warming up to the new style. I do love the sketched state name, especially. Your new mugs are really pretty. And I love your purple nail polish but find the single nail/different color distracting…

Insurance, ugh. It’s beyond ridiculous how screwed up it is.

    • kilax says:

I am warming up to them a bit, too. I definitely like most of the colors they are using. SIGH. I miss the “skyline” though. And yes, that is a good way to put it – the different color nail IS distracting!

It really is ridiculous! I wonder if that will ever change.

Heh heh. Hey, Beavis. She said “shitterfly.” Heh heh.

  5. Stephany says:

Ooh, A Lady’s Guide to Selling Out sounds really interesting! I’m going to have to look it up.

I actually like the lighter nail! It makes a nice statement. 🙂

I’m glad you questioned the insurance problem! It’s so crazy how stuff like that can happen. Just last month, I went to a new doctor’s office and was told that my insurance wasn’t going through! I was like “whaaaaa?” I had to cancel the appointment and get it sorted out through my HR department. Turns out, the doctor’s office just wasn’t running it through correctly. Ugh!

    • kilax says:

Let me know if you check it out! I like it, but I really have to focus on it and look up a word now and then!

      Thanks!

Oh man. Stuff like that (having to cancel the appt?!) REALLY pisses me off. It’s good they told you before but COME ON. That happened to me at the dentist once AFTER they gave me novacane – told me no one was there from my network that day, so I went home all swollen and drooly for nothing!

  6. Mica says:

Ohhh, we have to get a CA/SF mug in your collection, pronto!

I just got a pedicure recently and enjoyed it so much. I can see how it’s a slippery slope to fall down, plus your nails look so nice. (I know you’re not crazy about that shade, but I think it looks really cheery.)

    • kilax says:

      YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

A pedicure is such a great treat! Ugh! I am going to get one once my two missing toenails grow back. Do you think you’ll go again soon? And thank you!
