Jewel tones are in!

By , February 28, 2009 8:21 am

I love Target for inexpensive “I’m in between sizes” clothing. A lot of my work pants are too big now (and the one pair that fits has a hole that needs to be fixed) and some tops are as well. I would love to go drop the cash at Banana Republic and buy the pants I really want (hello, Martin fit), but what is the point when I am losing weight?

I noticed something funny yesterday when I was trying on tops – everything I tried on was either teal or a ruby shade! I guess jewel tones are in!

Has anyone else noticed this? An abundance of emerald green, amethyst purple, ruby red, topaz yellow, sapphire blue, turquoise blue, and tourmaline green (color descriptions taken from here)? It seems that I read about these shades in one of my magazines… of course now, I don’t recall which.

These photos don’t do the tops justice – trust me, they’re cute. And what is the deal with the Target models? Are they not allowed a full head?

Is anyone else trying out the jewel tones?

I sure am! I just hope I can still wear my plum and mustard clothing. I invested quite a bit in plum, and have even been rockin’ a mustard top (although a timid one) lately.

Click here to read about another blogger who loves jewel tones! Oh, and after watching Star Trek: The Next Generation with Steven last night, I realized their uniforms are jewel-toned as well. Ha ha.

Yay for Target! I love that place…a little too much, probably.

I HAVE noticed the jewel tone craze! In fact, it started in the Fall. I went to buy some new clothes and came home with ALL jewel tones. I think they’re so pretty, especially mixed and matched. The only problem: I don’t think they look all that great on my skin tone. I’m not real hip to all those rules but I glimpsed myself in the mirror while wearing my purple shirt and thought, “Holy moley, am I really that pale?!? I look SICK!” SO I retired that shirt, but I’m still wearing the other ones.

I like those tops…I think the reddish orange one on the left would probably look ok on me. (And I’ve thought that about Target models before. I don’t understand why the cut them off above the mouth…why not just take off the whole head? *haha*)

Loooooove jewel tones! I need a few cute shirts, so I may be stopping at Target this week.

  3. teeni says:

I’ve always liked the jewel tones but they didn’t always come in the cutest top styles. The ones you show here really ARE cute! Your plum wardrobe sounds nice too. I loved mustard and plum together too. I had to laugh that you noticed the headless Target models. πŸ˜€

  4. Steven says:

Well, you know if they wore it on Star Trek the Next Generation, it must be stylish πŸ˜‰

  5. kilax says:

Sarah – That is what I was thinking – just cut off their whole head! So, it sounds like you are ahead of the curve! Hee hee. I bet that purple top looks fine on you? Will you get it back out this summer?

Etta – You will look great in them! Let me know if you get anything there!

teeni – I was weary when I saw some of these tops! On the rack they look kind of wacky, but on a person, they look stylish enough to wear even though they are only one color. I am happy you are still liking plum and mustard! I don’t want to be TOO out of style! Phew πŸ˜‰

Steven – You should start wearing your communicator to work πŸ˜‰

  6. Denise says:

Steven has a communicator? I’m impressed! πŸ˜€ I love the jewel tones!

  7. kilax says:

Denise – Oh my gosh! He does! He found it at his parent’s new house in some box of his stuff. I think he took it home. I have a photo of him wearing it, doing the “spock hand thing.” Ha ha ha. I better go dig up that photo. Are you rockin’ some jewel tones? πŸ˜€

  8. SoMi's Nilsa says:

If I did any amount of regular clothes shopping, I’m sure I’d wind up buying jewel tones. But, given I’m such a slacker when it comes to keeping up with trends, I’m not sure I can guarantee I’ll buy any jewel tones this season.

  9. sizzle says:

I love jewel tones. Now if only I could get them to make a shirt that doesn’t look like maternity wear on me and I’d be set.

  10. kilax says:

SoMi’s Nilsa – Maybe you’ll end up in something, by accident! πŸ˜‰

sizzle – I hear you on that! I have been buying a medium instead of a large so that they don’t look like maternity clothes. It’s ridiculous!

  11. Jen says:

I love jewel tones too, and it’s interesting that they’re coming out for spring. Usually that’s a fall thing. I hate the maternity style tops and I’m hoping that soon some new trend will take it’s place!

  12. kilax says:

Jen – It could totally be that they’ve been out since Fall and I am just such a slow learner that I am only now noticing. I HAVE noticed the maternity style tops have been out for quite some time though. When will THAT style go away?

  13. Felicia says:

I love them!!! Plus Target rocks, I love to get fun shirts from there to wear out or to work that are easy to wash πŸ™‚

  14. kilax says:

Felicia – And, they’re inexpensive, so if they get ruined, no biggie! πŸ™‚

  15. Sister Christina says:

You gave me the last shirt of the three πŸ˜€ I LOVE IT. Wore it to work today!! You already know all this, but thought I should make a public announcement! :-p

  16. kilax says:

Sister Christina – Ha ha! πŸ˜‰ I am happy it fit and you liked it. The color I showed it in here is the one I bought it in. I think that color would look nice on you too πŸ™‚
