No reason to want a new wardrobe

By , August 29, 2009 8:40 am

I’ve been craving a new wardrobe lately. I think this is a fall thing. Yeah, it’s not “fall,” but we’re definitely having fall weather here. Plus, I am going to Washington D.C. soon for a work trip. I’ll be in a conference all week, and my logic is – “I NEED A NEW OUTFIT FOR EACH DAY!” Uh… these are people I have never met*. How would they know if my outfit was new or not?

The bummer is, I am on a total spending freeze and have been for a few months. I’m only spending money when it’s in gift card form.

But, that doesn’t mean I can’t look! Here are some of the tops that have caught my eye lately. They all seem to have a fun detail to them – which probably means they will be dated in a few years. Oh, and they all seem to be somewhat similar to clothes I have NOW – another reason I don’t need them!

From New York & Company:

Looks like the mustard color is still in style!

From Ann Taylor:

From Banana Republic:
(actually have a large gift card to here, but need to lose weight – their clothes are too expensive to buy in a bigger size – I’ve gotten burned that way before)

Actual Gift Card Buys:

And here are my actual gift card buys. The first one is from JCPenney. I got that top in that design (but in purple, not blue) and in black. The second two tops are from Kohl’s. I bought those with a pair of pants. I didn’t like the top at first, but then saw that the mannequin had it on with the flyaway cardigan, and it looks really cute together.

What are you lusting after these days?

*Except for the one coworker I am going with.

I’m currently the opposite of you…I have some weddings coming up that I want to buy a new dress for, but I can’t find any that I like! I hate when that happens.

I love that green top from Ann Taylor…so cute!

Love some of those tops! Especially the BR ones, but I honestly can only afford their sale rack or outlet prices!

I’ve been wanting to buy clothes lately too–I think for the same reason, I am evaluating my fall wardrobe and deciding I need some new stuff.
I bought a couple of the wrinkle-resistant button-up tops from Eddie Bauer for work and I LOVE them. I am thinking about ordering more…they are not cheap (actually, I got a short sleeved one that was on sale, so that was good) but they are sooooo nice!
I have also been debating about buying a suit but I am scared too of making an investment like that when my weight may swing violently one direction or another before I even have a need to wear a suit. Of course, my co-worker pointed out that it’s going to suck when I suddenly find myself needing one and having to go on the hunt. :p

ahhh I can’t wait to buy Fall clothes! I really am not a “shopper,” and only probably really going shopping once or twice a season (unless I need something specific). I love every season for it’s clothes, though after awhile I get a little tired of them and ready to move on. Although I am going to miss my tank tops and flip flops TERRIBLY here soon.

I just love sweaters and jeans. I went through a period where I seriously had WAY too many sweaters and wore one pretty much everyday. Oh, and boots. Love cute boots. 🙂

I think a work trip is definitely justification for some new clothes! I’m such an enabler.

I actually bought the New York & Co. top on the right, but in a different color. I haven’t worn it yet, and I’m still kind of on the fence about it. On one hand, it’s pretty stinking cute, but on the other hand I bought it after 2 martinis so I’m worried it’s not actually as fetching on ME as it was on the hanger…
    😉

Me and Banana Republic and JCrew have a very unhealthy love affair. I can’t even let myself in the stores right now, because I would leave with something. I am lusting after a bike helmet though, does that count!

I’m always lusting after new clothes! I wish I had unlimited funds for BR, JCrew, and The Limited!

I need new clothes.. my closet is mostly t-shirts and jeans. Of course, I wear jeans and t-shirts to work, so I’m set there. At home, my uniform is generally comfy shorts and a t-shirt. I dress like crap. I want new stuff.

  9. Christina says:

So do I! Why is it that when you can’t spend any money, the stores ahve the cutest things but when you can spend money, nothing appeals to you?

I am on a spending freeze too!

Losing weight is a great excuse to buy new clothes! I am lusting after a pair of Prahana pants I bought before our Montana trip. They were perfect for hiking and I can actually wear them to work. I think I like them so much because (a) they fit perfectly in the waist/butt/thighs, (b) I was able to hem the length without bringing them to a tailor and (c) the stone white color is perfect for pretty much every season!

  11. those are all my fav stores! i’m lusting after hangbags and shoes for the fall.

  12. I CANT WAIT until I can fit into clothes from Anne Taylor or Loft! Seriously, I love their stuff. Oh & J.Crew. All of my bridesmaids are pretty small, so we are getting the BM dresses from Anne Taylor. Dresses they can actually wear again (seriously, they can!) You’ve done the work and now can wear anything, so freaking awesome!!!

I’m the same way with the fall, I think it’s going back to being a kid and getting a whole new wardrobe and all new supplies.

I live just a few miles outside of DC (well 8) there are a lot of awesome trails here that you can run on. If youre staying in the city, the loop that runs from the capitol building around to the lincoln memorial and then back to the capitol building (aka the mall) is something like 6 miles around.

I always want a new wardrobe when the seasons start to change.

I agree that Banana Republic is too expensive. I only buy stuff there when it’s on sale or on the clearance rack. But I love The Limited. Sometimes I could seriously buy the entire store.

  14. Erin says:

Also, I was going to suggest that if you have something from Banana Republic that you love but that doesn’t fit anymore, you could look into getting it tailored. I found an AWESOME tailor in the city who charges reasonable prices and works miracles.

I am waiting until I go down one more size before splurging on new pants. Right now I’ve just had to go out and buy new shirts because my cat keeps eating mine(!). I think the pieces you got will look great on you!

I always get the shopping bug in September, but I’m pretty much on a spending freeze too 🙁
