Five Year Blogiversary

By , July 21, 2010 4:32 am

It’s my five-year blogiversary!

image:five yearsI started blogging on July 21, 2005 because I wanted a platform for sharing my adventures in Italy with family members. Now my blog has evolved in to so much more for me. I was actually having a conversation with Steven this Sunday night about all the things I/we wouldn’t be doing if it weren’t for blogging. It started with me saying he wouldn’t be doing autocross if I weren’t blogging, because I met Erin through her blog, and her husband introduced Steven to autocross.

What else was on the list?

If I wasn’t blogging I wouldn’t…

… have met some of the awesome friends I have / made connections around the world
… get as much varied advice/input/experience shared with me
… be staying in touch with certain people
… be taking as many pictures
… be documenting my life as much as I am
… (according to Steven) stick with running as much as I have
… be trying as many new recipes
… be improving my writing skills? (it’s questionable)
… be learning as many fun random facts
… be wasting so much time on the internets

and most importanly

… always have a place where I feel like I can express myself

What is on your “If I wasn’t blogging I wouldn’t…” list? How many years have you been blogging? Why did you start?

Happy blogiversary! Five years is a great accomplishment, and I truly enjoy your blog. It is a good source of inspiration for me πŸ™‚

If I wasn’t be blogging, I would be bored! It gives me an outlet to share the things I experience, think about, and read with others– in hopes we can all grow and live a better life. Sounds a little corny, but I hope that is how it works out!

  2. Kandi says:

I think my list should be “If I hadn’t started reading blogs…” I wouldn’t have done/purchased/been motivated to do/etc a ton of stuff.

  3. Mica says:

Yay, five years of blogging! Congratulations on sticking with it AND enjoying it so much. πŸ™‚

If I weren’t blogging, I wouldn’t…have met my birth mom! I started Micapie in Fall 2008, but I have actually kept various blogs since early high school.

  4. Congratulations on five years, that’s amazing!! πŸ™‚

If I weren’t blogging, I’d probably still be living out of the freezer. Very sad thought!!

  5. ohh 5 years that’s crazy, seems like so long! I think I’m on 3 years now, but really 2 solid years.

If I wasn’t blogging I wouldn’t be so excited to try new races in new places with new faces.

  6. Lacey says:

wow! 5 years!! congrats. i’m sure a lot has changed over that time period. it’s fun to look back!! i’m on the edge of 2 years and love that it has at least been that long. i hope O+E is still around in 3 more years!!! πŸ™‚ i agree- it is a place for me to write… creatively. organize myself. talk to people. track things. all around perks!!!!!!!!

  7. Wow! Congrats! That is a huge accomplishment! And you’re right about the blogger community being so great for so many things.

I love my pictures. I really do- but sometimes slack and am mad at myself for not taking more! Now that I blog more regularly, I feel like I do a much better job at capturing everything the way I want to!

    Happy Blogiversary!

    • Hilly says:

Also, if I had never started blogging, I never would have met this guy, mah Davey Joe! I cannot imagine life without him.

  9. Wow– five years is amazing!!! Happy blogiversary!!

  10. Happy Blogiversary! This is my second year of blogging. Time sure goes by fast doesn’t it?

  11. cher says:

wow, that’s a great anniversary! isn’t it amazing how time flies? i have no clue when I started blogging, but I’m guessing it’s been about 5 years as well. if i hadn’t started blogging, i would have never met a best friend. that would have been a tragedy, to say the least.

  12. Erin says:

    Congrats on the anniversary!

I started blogging over at Livejournal in 2001 so, technically, I’ve been blogging in one form or another since then. I’ve met quite a few awesome people via my blogs (including you!) and I have to say that’s one of my favorite parts.

  13. sizzle says:

My 5 year was back in Feb. We’re twinsies!

I would not have an outlet for self-expression if I didn’t blog. I have met so many great people and traveled to conferences to meet them. It’s been awesome! And I’m so glad I got to meet you (and S).

  14. Jamie says:

Happy blogiversary!!! It will be my 3rd year next month. I don’t think I would have stuck with running and learned so much about it and myself if it hadn’t been for my blog.

  15. onelittletrigirl says:

I will be at 1.5 years next month! I love this blog world and I am so glad to be a part of it!!!

Happy 5 years- I hope I am still at it at 5 years!

  16. I’ve been on the blogging scene for 3 1/2 years. Like you, it has provided me an outlet to express myself, to explore current issues and my own feelings about them, to celebrate the highs and weep about the lows … and to meet a world of people I never would’ve known existed otherwise!

  17. Christina says:

Happy Blogiversary! Crazy its been 5 years!! And I’ve read (almost) every post along the way!! Love you sis!!!

  18. Kim says:

Wow! 5 years! Congrats!! If I wasn’t blogging, I wouldn’t have met you (and a number of other really awesome people). That, to me, is the greatest gift. It’s an unexpected gift too. When I started blogging, it was just to keep myself accountable with some personal goals. I had no idea I’d have readers and that I’d be part of a blogging community. It’s really great. My blog is almost 2 years old πŸ™‚

  19. k8 says:

Happy Blogiversary! I’ve been writing for 2 1/2 years now. And frankly? I don’t think my recovery would have been complete without it.

  20. mom says:

How wonderful 5 years congratulations. We are so proud of your little blog baby. Love forever and always Mom and Dad

  21. Kim says:

Same name, both runners, both love cats, both started blogs on July 21… are we the same person? πŸ™‚

  22. Christina says:

I have been blogging for 4 years and I have meet some amazing people and just got connected do many things tha tI have not really known about or cared about.

  23. lifestudent says:

    Congrats!

Blogging holds me accountable. I feel like I need to make promises to the blogosphere … and then answer as to whether or not I kept those promises. Who knows where the feeling comes from, but I’m glad its there.

It also helps me keep track of my daughter’s life – and its hard to find a baby book or journal that can detail like a blog!!

  24. Congratulations, happy blogiversary indeed.

  25. J says:

Wow 5 years!! Congrats! I like blogging because it gives me people to talk to running about! Otherwise I bet my friends and family would go insane because I would have no outlet to let out all my excitement!

  26. Happy Blogiversary! That is so cool that you have been at it for 5 years. To think I didn’t even know what a blog was 5 years ago. Congrats!

If I wasn’t blogging, I probably would not be running as much either. I started the blog less than a year ago as a way to document my journey of beginning runner turned marathoner. It keeps me honest especially now as I am asking people for donations toward Leukemia and Lymphoma. If they are giving me money, I should be running A LOT.
I dont feel like I have missed anything by blogging, but I do feel like I have made some real cool friendships. I hope someday to actually meet my bloggy friends face to face. πŸ™‚

  27. Leah says:

    Happy Blogiversary!!
Blogging has done SO much for me, and it irritates me sometimes when people only focus on the negative aspects of it.
I feel like if I hadnt started blogging, I wouldnt have made all the progress I have as far as staying healthy. I find so much inspiration and support from the blog world.
I also love the fact that Im documenting my life. I’ll have that forever if I want to.

  28. Paula says:

Happy 5 year blog birthday Kim! Great work for keeping such a good blog up all this time. Love to stop by your blog, even if I don’t comment as much as I should. Data is a peach and I love keeping up with you guys <3

  29. Adam says:

    Happy anav!!! πŸ™‚

  30. kapgar says:

    If I wasn’t blogging, I wouldn’t have 90% of the friends I now have.

    Happy blogiversary.

  31. Hilly says:

Yay Kim! Happy Bloggiversary to you, sweetie!

If I wasn’t blogging, I never would have had the strength to leave him and start over again therefore regaining my independence and happiness. So yay, there’s that! πŸ™‚

  32. Susan says:

Happy birthday to your blog!! Five years….that’s quite impressive!

If I wasn’t blogging, I never would have “met” so many people from across the country! I talk about blogger friends like we’re real life friends sometimes…it’s kinda crazy.

  33. claire says:

Congratulations! 5 years is a real accomplishment. I just hit it myself a few months ago.

I started blogging to share my writing and I’m glad I’ve expanded that to my photography as well.

  34. kaylen says:

Woohoo!! 5 years is amazing!! Congrats!!!

I started in Nov of 2006 because I was bored at work and just wanted to start writing. I definitely feel like it’s enriching my life. I love having the creative outlet and the connections to other random people.
