Ten Year Blogiversary

By , July 21, 2015 5:55 am

Hey! My blog has made it to 10 years! Woot woot!

15072110yearblogiversary

Last night I said to Steven, “Guess what tomorrow is?!”

His answers: “The 21st?” “Tuesday”? “10 days from your birthday?!” <— very good answer, Steven, ha.

“No! It’s my ten-year blogiversary?! Should I retire?!”

Then he asked me what kind of pension plan I have, and what I have to show for 10 years of blogging.

I don’t think he was expecting a serious answer, but, I actually have A LOT to show for those 10 years. Many of my closest relationships are with people I met through blogging. There was a time when my ONLY friends were bloggers! So, beyond my blog giving me a place to speak without interruption, and document parts of my life, it’s connected me with so many amazing people. Thank you for reading!

I was hoping to have something cool (I don’t know quite what…) planned to celebrate, but my mind has been all over the place getting ready for RAGBRAI (my first day is tomorrow!) and planning a party with my snister*!

So… maybe next year? Ha.

  4. Heather says:

Happy Blogiversary!! *throws tons of virtual confetti* (I’d throw real confetti, but if Data is like my cats he’d eat it…and it makes for unpleasant cleanup.)

  5. Lesley says:

    Big congrats!

  6. Congratulations! What an awesome milestone!

  7. Congrats on 10 years!! Is it like a wedding anniversary? The traditional gift for 10 years is tin/aluminum so maybe you owe yourself a can of pop in an aluminum can! Haha. Happy Blogiversary!

  8. Xaarlin says:

Wahoo! And you do totally have something tangible from your blogging- all the friends!! 🙂 so happy we met through your blog. 🙂

  9. Anne says:

Yay, 10 years of blogging! I’ve met some great people through blogging too (like YOU!!!), so it definitely has that benefit. And I do think it’s cool to have my life documented in this way, and to have a forum where we can speak our minds (without interruption, as you said).

I don’t think I actually knew what a blog was 10 years ago, though I did have a xanga site at around that time (maybe late 2005-early 2006), so I guess I was kind of blogging then.

    • kilax says:

Yeah! Isn’t it cool to think that is how we met?! It’s fun how random it is 🙂 (until it happens so much it’s not really random lol)

I only found blogs by accident in 2005! I think xanga is pretty similar though!

  10. Nina says:

    Happy Anniversary!!
Data doesn’t look too impressed though.

  11. Shelley B says:

Dang, you started blogging when blogging was in the infancy stage! Congratulations on sticking with it and happy blogiversary!!

    • kilax says:

      Thanks!

Blogging was SO different when I started. It used to be so focused on telling stories, and not monetary gain or being an expert on whatever. I think a lot about how much it’s changed, but I try not to talk about it much on here, ha ha.

      • Shelley B says:

I hear ya – since when does having a modicum of success at something (weight loss, exercise, for example) make anyone an expert? Some bloggers certainly are rolling with that, though…and don’t get me started on how some will say anything if they’re getting paid for it.

  12. Alice says:

WOOHOO!! 10 years is awesome… I also just hit my 10 year, except I’ve taken multiple looonng breaks during those 10 years, so it only sort of counts 🙂 CONGRATS and happy bloggiversary 🙂

  13. jan says:

    Wow!! Happy anniversary! 🙂

  14. Pam says:

That’s so awesome! Blogging (or even just reading them lol) is an awesome way to meet new folks. I’ve met several and hope to meet lots more as I make my way around the country!

  15. Sarah L says:

Awesome! Happy blog anniversary! I enjoy your blog a lot. Good luck and have fun in the RAGBRAI!

  16. Amy says:

Congratulations! I’m glad to have met you through your blog and happy for the many times you have made me laugh out loud!

  17. HoHo Runs says:

That’s a LONG time in blogging years. That’s like 100 in real years. CONGRATS!

  18. karen says:

10 years is impressive! This calls for vegan donuts 🙂
That is so cool you made blog friends into real life friends.

  19. Congrats on ten years! It’s crazy, but fun to look back on years later, right? Also fascinating to see how blogging has changed over the years. I’ve always enjoyed your style and hope for ten more. TEN MORE YEARS! TEN MORE YEARS!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! Yeah, it’s so fun to look back. Even that the very beginning when it was SO awful, ha ha!

Aww, thanks for saying that! 🙂

  20. Mica says:

Wow, congrats on ten years of blogging! I really like having a record of so many things in my life–the big trips and just the day-to-day things. You write so many interesting posts about “little” daily things! I bet it’s fun to go back and re-read those. Have you noticed big changes in how you blog now vs. when you started?

    • kilax says:

Thank you! 🙂 I do like to go back and re-read things! I have noticed a lot of changes – my blog was a bit more “diary-ish when I started, and I was more open with what I blogged about! I still have those diary-ish entries, but now I am much more careful about how I word things. And I really think before posting something – is this something I want out there or something I want to talk to friends about, privately? Not like I have crazy stuff going on in my life, I just don’t need every random rant on the blog! 🙂
