The Force in the freezer

This is what your ice cubes look like, right?

Since we are still figuring out what is going on with our water (the aerated system is not working, so we’re going to get something new installed) and aren’t going to use the ice cubes our fridge makes from the water line, I decided to make ice cubes the old fashioned way with the store bought water we’ve been using, and with the only ice cube tray I have!

It’s a slow process, but totally worth it!!!

Data has this odd obsession with the sound of ice. I was reminded of it when I took the ice cube bin out to take that photo and he came dashing down the stairs, in to the kitchen.

He’s been like this since we adopted him in February of 2005! Whenever he hears someone getting ice, or the ice maker working, he comes running in from wherever he was, to see what’s going on.

We don’t know what that noise means to him. He’s not actually interested in the ice cubes if we give them to him! But it’s a good way to figure out where Data is if you can’t find him – shake the ice cube tray (or shake his food container… but then you better give him a treat!).

Those are snazzy ice cubes!! That’s hilarious Data comes zooming when you mess with the ice (the food I understand, but the ice!?). And I’m shocked he doesn’t want any of the ice either! CB freaks the eff out when out ice maker makes even the slightest noise. 🙁

We have the Death Star ice cube makers 🙂 I hadn’t seen the ship ones before! We shake the treats when we can’t find our cats but you’re right, we do have to give them one when they come running.

There are SO MANY different molds! I have Han Solo in carbonite ones somewhere, too.

Ha ha! It would be so mean not to!

Those are some snazzy ice cubes! I have a MINI tray that came with my car but haven’t made any yet…I know, what kind of car owner am I?? That’s pretty cute about Data and the ice cubes, and a great way to find him.

I laughed at ‘make ice cubes the old fashioned way’ since I’ve been living with ice cube trays for the past 12ish years! Our current fridge/freezer (purchased in 2012) has an ice maker in it but we never hooked the water line up for it. We are considering a kitchen remodel this year or next so we’ll probably finally do it then.

LOL! It’s not like it’s a lot of work, right? 🙂 We’ve always had the water line hooked up (in the old house, too) but here, I almost don’t want it.

I have a couple TARDIS molds, and they come in handy. I forgot to freeze some Dixie cups last Friday and after my 4-mile run Saturday, the only ice I had was in the TARDIS molds.

What a cool ice cube tray. It’s like Hoth in your freezer every time you go to get ice. The Death Star ice cube would be great in a glass of bourbon.

And a great trick to get Data to show up.

I also just found our novelty ice cube trains. They are brains and then symbols to make “E=MC^2.” (These are, unsurprisingly, not mine.)

This reminds me that I need to clean out our ice cube tray. It’s doing that thing where they smell old and kind of like onion/garlic…gross.

I’d never heard of Data’s ice cube noise quirk. How strange!!

Ha ha ha! I am really surprised they aren’t yours 😉

Hmm, I didn’t know ice cube trays did that! I will have to pay attention to it! That comment makes me think of how people freeze herbs in water in their trays to thaw and use later. Thar probably would do that to them. Ha!
