OMG I curled my own hair

By , July 23, 2018 6:21 am

Whoa, I was L-A-Z-Y this weekend! I enjoyed being lazy, but did think I was going to get a few more chores done… oops.

FRIDAY!

Friday started out crappy. I had a bad headache due to the pressure drop,

and was mostly out of commission. I told Steven french fries would make me feel better (???) so we went to White Castle to pick up some of their Impossible Burger sliders and fries.

This is only my second time EVER getting White Castle (the first time was also at this location). Question – is the service always so slow? It took fifteen minutes to get our four sliders and one order of fries. The first time we went it took about twenty minutes.

The sliders were good though! And the cold, thirty-minute old french fries did “help” my headache. We ate at home and watched the new Tomb Raider, which I was surprised to enjoy after all the bad reviews it got.

And the best part of Friday? The female kittens got fixed and the veterinarian said they were doing well!

SATURDAY!

I started Saturday with a short run and ride, then ran errands, then mostly chilled after. We finished watching Rock of Ages, made lunch, watched an episode of Mad Men, then I told Steven I was going to take a “disco nap” so I could stay up late that night at a party. Ha! (But really, it was necessary.)

I had made a hair cut appointment for before the party, hoping I’d be happy enough with the blowout to not have to do anything to my hair, but it looked flat to me. So I put on my big girl pants and located my curling iron (which I apparently have not used in the two years and five months we’ve lived in this house) and attempted to style my hair.

I NEVER style my hair. It’s either in a messy “bun” (not really a bun), a ponytail, or straightened. So I felt super proud of myself for attempting to, and not giving up. (I’m not saying it looked great, I’m just proud I TRIED.)

The party we went to was at our veterinarian’s office to celebrate their twenty-five year anniversary. We’ve been clients there for thirteen years, as long as we’ve had Data! There was food, speeches, dancing, and an open bar.

We sat with another client couple, and the wife was from Ames, Iowa, the town where we both went to college. So we chatted with them a TON, and of course, have some connections back in Ames, and locally.

We also visited the kittens while we were there (they’re ready to come home, but with our schedules, we can’t bring them home until August 2nd)!!! They seem SO BIG.

And I danced a bit while Steven chatted with some folks. We had a fun time and were heading out when the party ended at 11:00, then realized someone with a stick-shift car needed a ride home and Steven was the only one there who can drive a stick, so we ended up staying later and not getting back to our house until close to 1:00. I think we went to bed at 2:00. Eek!

SUNDAY!

So I kind of wasted away my Sunday after going to be so late and getting such odd sleep. I woke up at 7:00, was up for over an hour, then slept until 9:30. Whoa!

I finally got my butt out the door for a run, then we had lunch and watched Run All Night, had a FaceTime call with Gina and Steve to talk about RAGBRAI stuff, and mostly lounged and did a few minor chores that day/night. Again, oops! But I am glad we didn’t have any plans because I was out of it most of the day. Eh, it happens. There will be more productive days ahead.

Oh, and I don’t think I mentioned the party was outside… and I had my bug spray with me and forgot to use it right away. Sigh. My feet and ankles itch so bad.

The party sounds fun and your hair looked great! I don’t think I’ve pulled out my curling iron in years either. Sorry about your feet, I hope the itching is gone soon.

Thanks! 🙂 Your hair always looks so nice! What do you do to style it?

Me too, I have been trying hard to avoid itching and scabbing this year 🙁

      • Chaitali says:

Well, I only post photos if my hair is in a ponytail or I’ve actually taken time to do it 🙂 It’s generally a tangled mess because I don’t take the time to do anything with it before work other than running a brush through it. Recently, I got an undercut and that helps since there is less hair to deal with. When I do style my hair, I blow dry it straight and use a smoothing serum to try to control the frizz. Or I put it up in a bun or french twist.

        • kilax says:

Ahh, is your hair super thick and that is why the undercut helps? Props to you for at least brushing it and blowing it straight and using product! That sounds like a lot of work to me!!! 🙂

          • Chaitali says:

Yeo, it’s thick and straight and kind of just hangs there so thinning it out really helped. And the styling is work, which is why I leave it for weekends only 🙂

“Disco nap” I love it, I think I’ll use that phrase from now on!

You guys looked lovely. The kittens look so sweet!

I can imagine how itchy those bites are, hope they go away soon.

    • kilax says:

Yassssssssssss! I heard it recently and had forgotten about it. Steven was asking why I was using it, ha!

Thank you! They are! Ugh, I hate waiting to bring them home.

Me too 🙁 I am wearing socks to avoid scratching them but it’s HARRRRRRD.

I really enjoyed the new Tomb Raider as well but had never read any bad reviews of it. The few articles I read, ex post facto, had minor issues but otherwise praised Alicia Vikander as Lara Vroft.

    • kilax says:

I can’t remember what I read but it just trashed it! And I had been excited about seeing it cause I was reading how hard Vikander worked to get in shape for that role! It’s obviously set up for another and I hope they make it!

  4. I think your whole get-up, hair and all, for the party looks really pretty! I’m impressed with your dedication to trying to curl your hair. I’ve never really figured out how to do anything style-wise with my hair – I get too frustrated and give up (or don’t even bother trying in the first place).

OMG the kitties! I’m glad they got fixed so you can get a better idea of when you actually will get to bring them home! Also, the one in the bottom picture *heart eyed emoji* I hope her ears always stay that disproportionately large compared to her head. Too cute!!

    • kilax says:

Thanks! And yes, that is where I am too. I see a youtube vid and think I am going to be able to do it right with one try, without any practice, and get so mad I quit!!! And never try again, so I never get better! When I was curling, I remembered how my snis said to use it like a rod, and not use the clamp, cause that kinks your hair. So thankfully I remembered that pretty quickly, or I would have given u p!

Yes! We will pick them up August 2nd after vacay!!!! Right? And have you noticed how she has like, black hairs on top of her ears that are so adorable?!!?!!?!?

Hey, curling hair is tricky – you’re doing it backward, facing a mirror, and working with a hot wand that will burn you like there’s no tomorrow! Your looked great!

Holy mosquito bites, Batman. You served as their buffet. 🙁

    • kilax says:

Right?! I was like, how do I do this in the back without burning my hand? Especially since I was using it like a wand, and not using the clamp! Ha! Thank you.

I did. Ugh. So dumb of me! And now they’re all scabbed. UGH UGH UGH.

Your hair looks great! I never have luck with curling my own hair. When my stylist does it, she makes it look so easy!

I’m glad you had a somewhat relaxing weekend. Seems like you needed it! Hooray for sleeping late. 🙂

    • kilax says:

Thank you! Don’t they though? I guess if we did it most days we’d be good at it too. Eh 😉

I did!!!! Now I want another!

  7. Mica says:

You got eaten ALIVE at that party…but your hair looked voluminous! I’ve never curled my own hair successfully, so I am very impressed.

I’ve never had White Castle, other than some pre-made frozen sliders you could buy at the store. Their crinkle fries look good though, but it’s too bad it took so long to get them.

I’ve suspected that I sometimes get headaches due to pressure changes, but I’ve never been good about tracking them. I just checked your post and I wrote basically the same comment. UGH, I’m so lazy! Now I feel motivated to track!

    • kilax says:

And I have the scabs to show it! Ugh, I tried so hard not to itch them. Sigh. And thanks! 🙂

The fries were pretty meh! Let me know what you think if you ever go!

Ha ha, you aren’t lazy! There is a lot we do each day and that is just one more thing. But I’d be interested to know if the pressure dropped the next time you get one! (which I hope you don’t get one!)
