134.6

One hundred thirty-four point six.

That’s how many miles I’ve run on these shoes.

And look at them. They didn’t just start to look like this today.

Sigh.

It might be time to figure out how to NOT land on my right heel.

I’m burning through shoes MUCH faster than I can afford, and it’s just not good for my body to run on them with so much of the heel missing.

UGH.

Wah.

P.S. All my running shoes wear like this.

I hear you, it’s so frustrating. I feel like the new foams they are using wear down so quickly. I started PT for Achilles tendon it’s and when the PT looked at the wear on my shoes, she was like “oh you have so many issues we need to fix.” So now I am paying more in PT co-pays than I was for shoes! I know it will be helpful in the long run, but now I’m shelling out for shoes and PT

I am feeling that way about the foams too 🙁 I like how they feel but this is happening.

That is great that your PT looked at your shoes and is going to help you! I hope your Achilles feels better too.

Wow, that’s really disheartening! (“I’d switch brands!” adds Harrison, helpfully!) I guess the running companies are skimping on materials. It seems that way if you’ve noticed a difference recently. Are the tops still in good shape?

I wonder if I’d do better in another brand. I like the soft foam and uppers (which are in good shape!). I just can’t believe how fast I wear these down now. I rarely get to 200 miles on a pair anymore!

That’s frustrating! Running shoes (even on sale) are way too expensive for that to happen so soon!

If you want to try a different brand, I’ve gone through several pairs of New Balance Fresh Foam (they have different models based on what you want) and they hold up pretty well. I have different types for running, walking and cross-training and they’re all really supportive.

Another thought – is it possible one of your legs is longer than the other? My gait is affected somewhat similarly because of that difference, so it may be worth checking out. If you don’t want to see a doctor/PT for that, you could have Steven measure your legs for you while you’re lying down (I believe my PT did hip to heel but I can check into that).

      Exactly!

Thanks for the rec. I might end up looking in to something different. I didn’t think about the leg thing. Hmm. It could be worth having Steven check out! There’s definitely SOME reason I am landing like that!

  4. Holy cow! That’s insane! I didn’t know it was even possible for shoes to break down that much. Have you ever gone to a running store and showed them what you’re dealing with? They might have some suggestions for shoes that could maybe hold up to your gait better than your Asics? You’re only getting like 25% of the mileage out of them than you’re getting, and that seems totally ridiculous!
