Jiggle jiggle

By , October 2, 2008 9:11 pm

Okay, okay, I LOVE that I can just get up and run 2-3 miles on any given weeknight, and feel totally refreshed, and not even that tired afterward.

BUT. All of the jiggling fat on my butt and upper legs is becoming a bit distracting when I am running. I feel like I have a butt… full of pudding. Big, sludgy pudding that moves up and down with every step.

It’s time. It’s time to finally get serious about strength training/toning.

Tomorrow.

(After… I get all of your toning moves advice? Lunges? Right?)

hey, I’m totally impressed by the refreshed after running 2-3 miles. Good for you!

One exercise that isolates your buttocks is to get on all fours and then lift your leg up (while still bent 90 degrees at the knee). There’s also leg lifts- lie on your side while propped up on your elbow and lift the top leg up. Also on your side, bend the top leg over the bottom and then lift the bottom leg up. Since weights are supposed to speed up toning, you could add ankle weights for more of a workout.

claire – Thank you! I am going to add those two moves to my list. I am trying to make a “routine” that I can follow, maybe a few nights during the week. Those sound good!

Alice – LOL! Refreshed in a … all the sweat has left my body sort of way ๐Ÿ˜‰

    javaqueen – Thanks! ๐Ÿ˜›

Are you looking to join a gym, or do this at home? Let’s talk next Saturday about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. that’s awesome that you feel refreshed after running 2-3 miles!!! way awesome!!!! i have the jiggle problem too and like you, i’m looking for exercises to help… too bad it’s not as easy to lose weight as it is to gain weight… dang!!

I wish I was running right now. Not this second, but in running shape. I really love and miss it. My thighs and butt are not my problem areas, they’re the fastest things to tone when I’m working out and losing weight. My problem is my stomach – the first place I gain and last I lose, so when I run I always wear a snug fitting tank top so nothing… moves (ugh, yuck). Wish I could give you advice, I just wish I had your motivation.

Each post of yours that talks about your exercising gets me excited to start mine…. soon… very soon (like next week).

diane – I would LOVE to talk to you about it! I am looking for things to do at home. I know it’s lame, but I feel like I don’t have time to go to a gym.

CourtneyInControl -HA! If only it WAS as easy. You know what they say “You didn’t put the weight on overnight – you’re not going to lose it overnight!”

Jenn – Hey, maybe moving will inspire you to pick up running again! Although, the area looks a BIT hilly!

martymankins – I was wondering when you were going to start your program! Maybe I can still a move or two from you ๐Ÿ˜‰

I couldn’t run that far if I were being chased by a crazed axe-wielding murderer! I can’t give you any advice but I’m impressed and inspired by you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. kilax says:

teeni – Really? What if you were being chased by a dinosaur? Ha ha. I bet you could do it, with some training! Thanks for the encouragement ๐Ÿ™‚

Strength training is the best! I do this crazy class called Crossfit which basically uses free weights and your own body weight (push-ups, pull-ups, etc.) – no cabled machines. It’s scaled to your ability so no matter what kind of shape you’re in, it’s uber-hard-core. Feels AWESOME, and although I haven’t gone regularly in awhile, back when I did, I defintely felt myself getting stronger. (Google for more info…there’s lots out there on Crossfit)

Two general things about strength training:

    1. Don’t be afraid to use heavy weights. You’re stronger than you think, and no, you won’t get “bulky.”

    2. PROTEIN! Back when I did this regularly, I wanted to eat the entire world, ALL THE TIME. I’m starting the class up again, and this time I’m drinking a protein shake within an hour of working out. So far it seems to have helped…

supersalwa – I looked into Crossfit a bit. It actually sounds really interesting to me! But it IS something you do in a gym? It would be fun to take a class once a week, if I could find a time to do it! My husband has starting drinking protein shakes. Hmm, I wonder if he would be interested…

    Thanks for stopping by! ๐Ÿ™‚

I will have my first post outline what I am doing, so feel free to steal anything you want. I’m all about helping anyone and everyone, including myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. kilax says:

martymankins – Great! I can’t wait to see the outline. I think it is time for some variety. Maybe I will find some in your plan!
