Putting something practical on my wishlist this year

<image:Penguin HumidifierAlready, they’re back in full force.

The evil penguins!

Just kidding. Actually, it’s the bloody noses.

I think my nose bleed for a full 20 minutes tonight. I just had to stand over the sink and let it come out, because it was soaking up the tissue too fast.

Please, please, please – someone get me a humidifier for Christmas. Or sooner. Humidifiers, especially cute penguin or other animal shaped ones, make great early Christmas presents. Or great “we’re coming to see you the weekend before Thanksgiving presents.”

(Okay, or I could just buy one myself – they’re not that expensive and we just got a $10 off coupon from Lowe’s [ironically, the day after we spend over $400 there])

Oh zoinks! I am so sorry that the evil bloody noses are back! Shawn got a humidifier because he was getting them all of the time and man oh man do those things work!

  3. Alice says:

i don’t technically need a humidifier, but i WANT one if it’s going to be an awesome little penguin like that.

  4. teeni says:

That is a cute humidifier! I think drinking water more water does seem to help with the nose bleeds. I hope yours are doing better soon! And I hope you get what is on your wish list!

I get bloody noses a lot in the winter time…. it’s the dry weather and being in heated indoors that’s the main cause for me. I’ve tried humidifiers and they work, kinda… but only to a certain degree. My solution: when my nose feels dry, I shove a bit of Carmex inside and line the inside of nostrils with it. If I do this a few times a day (discretely), I’ve found it reduces the amount of bloody noses I get.

But, it’s not 100%. Which is why I always keep napkins or tissues near me at all times during the winter.

CourtneyInControl – One day, I ordered over $150 worth of stuff from Victoria’s Secret. After I placed the order, I got an email coupon for 10% the item I bought, then when I got home, I had a coupon for a free duffel bag if you spend over $150. 🙁

Hilly – That is what people are telling me, so I am going to go for it and get one!

Alice – Target has a TON of cute kid’s ones. Check it out.

teeni – I will try to drink more water. I do drink a lot now, but it doesn’t hurt to try!

martymankins – That’s an interesting idea that I haven’t heard! Hmm… I think I used a whole box of kleenex last night. It was awful 🙁

  7. I have no real reason for a humidifier but I might have to come up with one to justify getting an animal humidifier! They’re so cute!

  8. diane says:

You should totally get the penguin one! I bet Data would love it! Ha ha. 😉

  9. de says:

it is super cute and they really do suck. sadly though you just reminded me of what I had been forgetting to do, bring our humidifiers out of storage . . . oh no, I just remembered that the door was open the other night when I went down there and while I didn’t notice anything missing I also wasn’t looking too hard, I hope that wasn’t it – actually I hope that it was nothing
but even more so, I hope that you (and my daughter) get way fewer nose bleeds this year than years past. nose bleeds suck!

  10. tori says:

My daughter was having awful ones. Her doctor actually gave her some antibiotic cream to put up her nose to make sure nothing got infected! He also put her on some zyrtec (I think that’s what it was) and it did seem to help. But I bet a humdifier would be good for her too. I always worry though because if you don’t clean it right they can get moldy and be sort of dangerous…at least for my son because of his asthma. Something about inhaling mold spores…not good for anyone, but especially not good for someone with asthma. I do realize they are perfectly safe if you clean them right, so I’m not trying to scare you, just rambling and thinking as I type.

  11. Bethany says:

Oy, I know what you are dealing with! I’m sorry– hope you get a humidifier soon!

  12. Bethany says:

Oh, yes I’m glad I went to go see him. Hard, but good to see anyway. 🙂

  13. kaylee says:

kilax- i have had them too 🙁 they are no fun!

  14. jQ says:

GAH! I hate it after I spend some major bucks, when the clerk hands me a coupon good for the next time I come in- hows about today Junior??? Yeah! GAH, I really hate that. I’m sorry to hear of your nose bleeds, that’s not good and I sure hope someone brings you one soon- the penguin is adorable, never saw that before! Get better!

  15. suze says:

Ugh – that sounds like no fun. I’ve never had them, but Mike has, and the humidifier seemed to help last year. Hope it helps you too!

  16. SJ says:

I have to humify in dry weather, too, for my eyes as much as my nose.

I have the coolest air cleaner/humidifier! It’s shaped like a ball, and swirls the water inside around in a most mesmerizing way, and there’s a pale blue LED inside too, so the water looks gorgeous. The noise is very soothing. It’s really the perfect winter night light in the bedroom. And the cats are fascinated by it. Wish I could remember where I bought it.

  17. kilax says:

Gina (Mannyed) – I wish they had a kitty one (that wasn’t Hello Kitty)!

diane – I think Data would like it. I wonder if you can see the vapor come out. He would be very interested!

de – Did you find it? Or will you be buying the penguin as well?

tori – One of the people who reviewed this one on the target website mentioned that she obsessively cleaned it everyday. That’s good to know, because I probably wouldn’t have thought of it.

Bethany – I hope to get one soon too!

kaylee – Are you using a humidifier as well?

jQ – Bath and Body Works does that EVERY TIME! I hate it too!

suze – Yet another testimony! I need to get one, asap!

SJ – The one you have sounds so cool! Who makes it?

  18. marissa says:

Ugh! I know what you mean. I get so many bloody noses during winter. And my skin is SOOO dry its flaking off!

  19. kilax says:

marissa – Isn’t it awful?! The first thing I have to do when I get out of the shower is put lotion on, otherwise my face actually HURTS! 🙁

  20. Felicia says:

Ok that is the cutest humidifier I have ever seen 🙂

  21. kilax says:

Felicia – I saw it in person at Target yesterday! It is even cuter there!
