Mental Preparation

By , November 16, 2008 10:34 pm

We have a super stressful week ahead of us. Besides preparing for my family’s visit next weekend with the typical cleaning and shopping, we also have to ship four Saab winter wheels and tires somewhere (?), put up our Christmas tree, as well as finish PAINTING our bedroom so we can SLEEP in it.

And did I mention the shopping won’t be normal shopping for guests, but shopping for guests and for ingredients for about 10-15 different cookies and sweets?!

And what did I do all weekend that I did not get any of the above mentioned done? I had neighbors over for dinner, ran a 5K, got my oil changed, test drove a car, went to Lowe’s, went to Quantum of Solace, did laundry, painted test samples, went back to Lowe’s and Target, taped, painted, cursed, went to Home Depot, cut up all the vegetables, took the garbage out, cleaned the kitchen…

I feel like the only time I sat down this weekend was at the movie. And I was being anxious and jumpy anyway (slow movie).

I am stressed out. I have so much to do, and what? Two and a half free hours each night to do it? If I skip dinner, and don’t exercise?

I don’t care if I have to stay up late to get all of these things done. I just want to exercise. I am already feeling anxious and stressed out about the fact that I may not have the time to (logistically, I can’t right now – there is no room in the bedroom to pull the treadmill out).

And I’m feeling stressed about stress eating. And stressed about the fact that I’ve been feeling so much more hungry lately. What is THAT about? I thought you got LESS hungry when you weighed less? Am I confusing hunger with something else?

I am trying to mentally prepare for the week and these challenges. I may actually have to make a little schedule to make sure I get all the things done I need to get done.

Monday – Paint
Tuesday – Paint?
Wednesday – Shopping
Thursday – Cleaning / Tree

I’ve just gotta let out all of my stress here. And say that it’s going to be a rough week, but an awesome weekend with my family. And a great Monday off NEXT week. That’s when I’ll get my rest!

Wow, sounds like you have a lot to do this week. I’m glad you’re taking care of all those things so I can relax a little. πŸ˜‰

  2. kilax says:

Steven – I hope you have fun getting those tires to UPS in the Infiniti! Muah ha ha!

  3. kapgar says:

Well, if you’d act like normal human beings and put up your Christmas tree after Thanksgiving, your week wouldn’t be so hellish, now would it? πŸ˜‰

  4. kilax says:

kapgar – It is the Star Wars Christmas tree – there are no excuses! (I just thought it would be more festive to have it up while we are making holiday treats this weekend. It’s a fake tree)

  5. Cat. says:

Just keep repeating “What gets done is what gets done” because you can’t make yourself sick trying to fit in too much. Close your eyes and breathe when things get wack.

The eating thing: it is that time of year when it’s dark and cold outside and all our bodies want to do is start adding insulation. Plus, Thanksgiving is a holiday that pretty much is ALL ABOUT THE FOOD.

I’ll be thinking of you. Good luck!! πŸ™‚

  6. i’m sorry that you have such a hectic week!!! but like you said, this weekend will be awesome and having monday off will be even better!!! ah, the ironies of hunger, food, and stress!!! don’t worry, you will get everything done that has to be done, the rest of it, it will all work itself out!!! (i know, sometimes hearing that stresses me out, i hope that’s not the case though!!) you can vent and let your stress out here anytime!! that’s what we’re here for!!!
but it sounds like this last weekend was nice and productive!!! that’s always good!!!
and now i must ask… so you test drove a car this weekend huh….
    =^..^=

My advice would be to NOT skip working out. It’s important to you, it will help calm you and you’re on a roll (so don’t let things stop you!). What if you had your guests help you decorate the tree as part of a fun pre-baking/getting in the holiday spirit activity? That way you’d cut one thing out to do before they arrive.

  8. kilax says:

Cat. – You’re right. I am only human! I can only do so much! I should focus on being happy with what I did/am getting done, instead of worried about what might not happen! And I wonder if that is why I am so hungry – the weather. Hmm.

CourtneyInControl – I am thinking about buying a new car. Actually, probably a SUV. Steven’s little coupe just might not do it this winter, especially if we get as much snow as last year! So we are looking around. I really want the Porsche Cayenne, but it might be a bit too expensive… πŸ˜‰

sizzle – Duh. Why didn’t I think of that? It’s a wonderful idea! I’ll just put the tree up, and maybe the lights, and we can do the ornaments together. I bet they will like that!

  9. Christina says:

Oooh stressful. But I am sooo excited to see you this weekend!!! I am staying until Wednesday right?? If you guys are working all day it will give me some time to work on my drafting project! πŸ™‚

  10. kilax says:

Christina – We DO have to work on Tuesday and Wednesday, but you can TOTALLY stay with us until then! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Do you want to help decorate the Christmas tree? Heh heh.

  11. Alice says:

you’re so good!! i use weeks like that as justification why i couldn’t POSSIBLY be expected to exercise πŸ˜‰

  12. javaqueen says:

Aww… that stinks to feel so overwhelmed. I’m sure S will help out…. On Monday (the day you have off) you will be so glad you did all this stuff because you and your family are going to get so much enjoyment out of it. Sizzle is right though, don’t skip out on your “work out” time because that should help to release some stress and make ya feel better too:) Good luck and happy holidays over at your house!

  13. Denise says:

I’m thinking lists for the “team” as far as shopping for ingredients. Give each team member a list of specific ingredients. Then you aren’t shopping for everything.
OR…… Since Steven wants to be so helpful…… : ) I think you could probably get your exercise in while HE paints, shops, and puts up the tree. (snicker, snicker) Sorry Steven, I couldn’t resist. Decorating the tree with everyone is a great idea!! With wine and snacks included. Hope everthing turns out like you want.

Remember, exercise is a great way to de-stress.
    BTW, love the Cayenne!!!

  14. marissa says:

I know that feeling! I totally stress about whether I’ll get my exercise in, and the fact that I tend to overeat when I’m stressed and anxious. But just go with it. And ENJOY. Live each moment and have fun. And now if only I could follow my own advice! πŸ™‚

  15. teeni says:

Before your company comes, go out and get yourself a jumprope! Those give you a great workout without taking up much room – store it in a drawer or hang it on a hook. Then you can run outside and get some exercise without needing to get the treadmill out. Just a cheap idea.

  16. kilax says:

Alice – Already, tonight, I was thinking “painting counts as exercising…. right? Right?!”

javaqueen – You’re totally right. It’s one of those “it’s all worth it in the end” situation! Thanks for being so positive. I needed that right now (I’ve almost started crying a few times tonight)

Denise – I made sure to paint the corner the treadmill goes in first tonight! That way, I can scoot it over there and use it tomorrow, even if the painting is not done! I just found out Steven has to work late this week (tonight and probably tomorrow). I painted from 7-10 then he got home and is still in there. Bleh. Is it Friday yet?!?! I will let you know if I test drive the Cayenne. *snicker*

marissa – I have got to find a way to enjoy this week, and live life as it is. I can’t be crabby pants ALL THE TIME! πŸ˜›

teeni – That actually sounds like fun! I haven’t used one in so long! And it would definitely make me energized to go out in the cold weather!

  17. Kim…I saw in your comment about the Porsche Cayenne to Courtney…SOOO funny, because I saw one when I was at a car wash with the Infiniti. I was completely aw struck and drooling over this car! I wanted to take a picture to show you (seriously) with my phone, but my husband wouldn’t let me! He was afraid the owner would see me taking a picture of his car. I should’ve done it anyway.

You will totally survive this week! Just do what you can. Or call in sick ;o)

  18. kilax says:

Gina (Mannyed) – That is so funny that you saw it this weekend! Isn’t it great?! I try to take photos of cars a lot with my camera phone, but feel like a goober. πŸ˜‰ We got the painting done tonight, and I do actually have a “sick day” tomorrow to see the doctor. I think I may have an infection – the whole right side of my face feels stiff… and my stomach hurts and my face is all hot and my throat is scratchy. I REFUSE to get sick! I hope they drug me up.

  19. Felicia says:

    Tis the season………hehe πŸ™‚

Sounds like a freaking crazy week for ya’ll!!! I hope you get better soon πŸ™‚

  20. kilax says:

Felicia – Ahhh… it’s all over now. Thankfully!
